There is a HS near where I live in Chicago named after this good man. Unfortunately, it lacks funding. A sophomore student even had to teach science to her classmates this past year for two months because they couldn't find a replacement. It's rather a shame to Clemente's legacy.

Grew up in Pittsburgh. Went to many games at Forbes Field primarily to watch Clemente and Stargell play. Both players were always kind to kids like me who would hang out by the fence during batting practice. We need a stronger word than "hero" for Roberto. His reward is great.

As a kid following baseball in the 60s, staying up past bedtime quietly listening to my hand-held transistor radio, I would marvel at the abilities of Roberto Clemente at the plate and in the field. A rocket arm in the field and uncanny hitting. He has been my baseball hero for more than 60 years!

Though I have to admit that, growing up playing sandlot ball in Pittsburgh when everyone picked their favorite Pirate that they were "channeling", I'd claim Bill Mazeroski as the player I was in the game. I always had a soft for "Maz" thanks to the 1960 World Series. 🙂

I was 12 years old still living in PR and had spent the week collecting food and clothes for the people in Nicaragua for him to take to them. My son who's 41 is a die hard fan of his and he has his favorite saying tattoo on his arm with a picture of him. Qué descanse en Paz! ♥️🇵🇷
