I wonder if the brief tik tok ban opened some eyes about physically owning something. Owning a piece that can't be taken away by the click of a mouse by some tech dbag
A local used bookstore has a huge selection of used CDs, and my ass walked out of there with 10 of them yesterday. Good ones too, like Stevie Wonder's Innervisions and Lorde's Pure Heroine. All hail used CD stores.
I remember walking into a Sam Goody's and I was so excited to use my hard earned money to but Boyz II Men II and Green Day Dookie. The cashier looked at me oddly. 12 yr old me and 41 yr old me still have similar music sensibilities
I miss those times. I used to work at Hollywood video and some of my best memories include just talking to people above movies. What they liked, didn’t like, or was all good times
I got nostalgic over minidisc, a format I never usednwhile it was actively in production. Now, I follow several artists and labels on Bandcamp that do minidisc releases! I love that little player, it's like all the fun of cd collection without the skipping and takes up less space.
I remember buying Glastonbury tickets in the store on a random Thursday a few weeks before the festival. Nowadays it sells out in 42 minutes, six months before you know who is even playing.
Had to walk 2500 american yards(idk if thats a lot) on the schoolbus in the blistering rain to get to the gramophone shop, then had to walk all the way back through a cave in the blistering heat and had my leg get stuck in a boulder and had to cut it off in the span of 127 hours in the blistering sn
Just the ones that are really special and should be saved for posterity after the collapse of society, for future generations to still be able to do things like cry over Fry's dog Seymore Asses.
Vinyl is so much more fun, and more and more stores are opening all the time. Plus it gives bands like yours the chance to issue special edition vinyl in all kinds of weird colors and patterns.
Icontact you today in the hope that you can offer some form of assistance All I need is a small donation of £5or £10to help me rebuild my home and keep my family alive in the difficult we are living in Gaza Any support you can be greatly appreciated Thank you for your time https://gofund.me/8bd7a599
I would cry so many tears if you played in the bar in my small town that only ever gets cover bands and washed up bands from the 90s (no offense) and then went to our local record stores which both hold decent cd collections. That’s all CDs in the circle.
There used to be this electronics store shaped like a boat called The WIZ in new jersey, and that's where I bought so many alternative rock CD's in the early 2000's. Distinctly remember buying 3EB's Blue there, core memory.
We would get high on the way to the mall, closets larger record store. Mainly sold Cd's after a few years. Go in, show each other music we would find. Drive around and listen. It was simple. However, people were not as smart as we are now. Que sera, sera. Bittersweet feelings for sure.
lol..i am of the age that we could walk into a store and buy a 45 vinyl record for 98 cents (minimum wage was 1.25 ) like when i bought this record from the ss Kresge store (later became k-mart)
We used to have to leave our backpacks behind the counter at the record store. They would hand you half of a playing card, and clothespin the other half to your bag for tracking porpoises 🐬
There used to be stores where that's specifically what they sold. Here, tho, even the used record store went belly up. Streaming music has been both a godsend - discovering hitherto unknown ear wyrms, allowing independents to publish - and a curse because those streaming services choke the profits.

I miss this. Walking into FYE and coming out with @coheedandcambria.bsky.social’s In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 and listening to nothing else for weeks? GAWD those were the days.
A nurse offered me a CD to look at my xray. How kind of her, I thought. Then I remembered, where tf can I use this CD?I guess our “great”healthcare system is using antiquated hardware systems combined with new AI technology. What could go wrong? 🤷🏻♀️
I had my 6 disc installed under the passenger seat of my Corolla so I could reach it from the driver seat. Later added an amp and sub. I never had a car stereo as good as what I had in the late 90’s / early 2000’s.
I just have single disc now, but it does MP3. I have a bunch of MP3 discs of my top rated songs from iTunes, before I started using streaming services. Haven’t made a new disc in a long time, but every now and then I throw one of those on.
In my car I use a crappy old Bluetooth to aux adapter (no AAC/AptX) from my iPhone, mostly YouTube Music, going to stock audio of my 2009 Honda Fit. It's worse sound quality than the MP3 discs lol. I should run a direct aux cable from my iPhone every now and then, as a treat.
