Hope you feel better! I just watched a crazy good movie called Barbarian. I'd really recommend it. Don't spoil anything about it for yourself if you do though.

I watched Rush Hour today. Jt aged well imo, still a fun movie

Miyamoto is unlikely, I'd say. Busy with movies/park. Expect it to be more focused on games/the switch than a presenter, as has been the case for directs for a while now.

For me, it's just a boring announcement. Every old nintendo console kind of had a thing that made it feel fun and exciting. This is just another switch though. Maybe the direct will be more fun though.

That's fair. I hope you'll consider doing a audiobook for it as well. And although I know we are just acquaintances on the internet, I do think you're a good dude and I am proud of you for hanging in there, despite the constant "setbacks" we'll say. Hope you and your wife are well.

Is there any chance you'd do your Q&A style videos on YT shorts instead? I find that you have interesting stories to tell, but there aren't many places to hear you speak as you. The interview you did with Culturescape was good. Anti-woke grifters tend to try speaking for you, unfortunately.

Sometimes simple is better. I really like tomato sandwiches.

Celebrity culture in general. TV, movies, music. Politicians to an extent. Social media amplified it, for sure, but people always have had a habit of honing in on personalities that are "in another world". For me, I see everyone equally. Like you, you're just a cool dude who likes games/art.

No kidding. The day after it happened, I spent like an hour watching videos of it just to see how insane and dumb a lot of them looked. Channel 5 on YT is good for this kinda stuff.

Happy new years to you and your family, Adam.

I think there's a place for movie-like games and gameplay driven experiences. Diversity is the fruit of the industry. But a lot of people seem to want to erase the thing they aren't into and that's always been odd to me. Like the "Grummz crowd" on Twitter.

I gotta head to bed for work tonight, was nice having a civil back and forth with yall despite not agreeing 100%. Respect. Also yeah I hated Horizons UI tbh, but I didn't like Horizon in general. Didn't click with it.

I personally don't remember being personally bothered by ERs UI, but people did complain about it. Ubisoft comes to mind quick. I want to see the game, the world, not having UI pollution. Disappearing UI while exploring is cool, helps a lot imo

My main thing for any dev, from anywhere, is respect a players time and respect a players integrity. Accessibility options/optional tutorials are great, but constant tutorials, yellow paint, invasive UI etc makes me feel like devs think I'm dumb, don't like it.
comment in response to post
I think Demon souls was the main game when devs realized there's people who don't want to feel talked down at. Loved DeS. I loved both Japanese and western games at the time, but I was much more into Oblivion, Halo, Dragon age(annoying tutorial in DA too), etc. I love survival horror as well.

Thankfully, I think games now are starting to at least give the option to skip this stuff. I get so bored when I'm constantly stopped, in any game. I prefer minimalistic UI too which seems a little more common, thankfully. Western UI design sucked ass for like a decade
comment in response to post
Old school Japanese games were definitely like that, but that certainly wasn't the case in games at the time. FF10/FF12, Pokemon, Asuras wrath, etc are examples I can think of just off the top of my head that dragged on and definitely didnt just drop you in.
comment in response to post
That's fair enough.
comment in response to post
I personally don't agree, it was why I myself stopped playing Japanese games for a time after '11 or so. Tutorials did exist in western games too ofc but you could almost always breeze through them quickly. Gears 1, you can totally skip it. Not the case for most J-games at the time.

I wish Pokémon would stop doing it. To this day, it takes forever for the games to stop holding your hand. Sun/Moon is my favorite gen but that game does it for 4 or so hours before it stops bugging you. So annoying.

Well, if you're still focused on Phil, he doesn't like Call of Duty either lmao. A lot of Japanese games had incredibly padded tutorials comparatively, some going on for multiple hours, so it's not a weird point I think? Fair if you disagree though I guess.

Nonetheless, this internet stranger is rooting for you both. I know how crippling the healthcare/insurance system can be. You'll figure it out!

He didn't live at Montreal at the time he quit regardless, he lived(lives?) in Nashville. He was open about it.
comment in response to post
He hated the hand holding specifically, as he said. Which was absolutely a criticism at that point in time, long drawn our unskippable tutorials. He loved older Japanese games that did the opposite. I myself prefer to skip tutorials and the like as well.

Fez is still an incredible game, no matter how one tries to punch down at it. And I also don't think "i think Japanese games suck" warrants doxxing, death threats, etc

You've earned it.

It'll be okay, friend. Just remember to breathe, and reach out to someone if it stays hard. Can even reach out to me if ya need.

Will you both be okay? I'm really hoping the best for her, that you two can figure a way through this. I'll have yalls well being in mind these holidays.

Yeah. I've been prone to doomscrolling here and Twitter, occasionally baited into chatting shit. I've been struggling a little lately and that vulnerability is making me prone to snapping back on social media. Really sucks. Trying to get out of that loop, though.
