Why is everyone writing these elaborate guides for people who came here from Twitter, its a social media site, they'll figure it out in like under 2 minutes

My first impression is it's kind of like Twitter from about 15 years ago (not a bad thing). I'm sure I'll notice differences as things go along ...been here less than 24 hours.
I thanks everyone than are writing guides because I'm so lost it's insane. I'm really bad with technology so thanks everyone that are doing this guides! ✨💕
It's easy. All you need to know is that, once a year, all usernames are written on a slip of paper, folded then placed in a black wooden box which is stored in a safe at Mr. Summers' office until the lottery is scheduled to begin.
As the Bluesky motto goes: "Lottery in June, corn be heavy soon."
Unfortunately, I think I speak for all the non-techy olds (55+) when I say this website is slightly confusing and it will, indeed, take more than 2 minutes to figure out.
I've seen a lot of people being surprisingly confused about how this place works - especially over stuff like "there's no central algo, you just have to follow people"
People’s mental models have been distorted by all the algorithmic feeds they’ve used for decades. Learning how to operate independently is a new skill too. It’s like file systems for kids who grew up on Google
Bluesky has so many more features and options then other sites do and they don't have a good guide or tutorial. (And I personally have felt compelled to give tips just cause I think the site doesn't reveal its uniqueness immediately and I want folks to give it a chance.)
I think the assumption that people can just figure it out with digital tools is a flawed one at best. We are coming into time periods of increasingly less & less clear & transparent documentation for things because A) designers assume people can figure it out & B ) they don’t pay people to write it
Assuming one doesn't already exist, Bluesky could use an equivalent to FediTips, which is a Mastodon account that just hosts a pretty comprehensive library of write ups and walkthroughs for How to Fediverse. It was super useful to just boost that account during Twitter Exodus waves
the reason that stopped me from using bsky so far is not just that my brain is unable to grasp change, but also because it was very confusing. i like my guide a lot!
it's not like twitter always had the function built-in and it often fails. this site is new and the developers have been adding functions that are like those on twitter.
Empirical evidence has shown otherwise. The lack of algorithm and the need to actively engage really throws people who are used to simply having stuff flung at them, or, if they're "famous", having an audience delivered to them.
I mean personally I'm not following a single guide and I'm trying to get politics and stuff I don't like out of my sight.
It's not working, and I'm starting to remember why I haven't looked around here in 7 months
Shiv: to BlueSky one must
1) have an axe
2) have a sword
3) throw the ring into the mountain of doom
4) sacrifice the human that wants things to the enemies
5) set free the world serpent Jörmungandr
6) lead the world destroyers across the Bifröst, wrecking everything in your path
7) create follow lists that are actually block lists
8) laugh maniacally as you reshape the portal to the social realms in your image
Blocking changed, blocked can still see ur posts now, it's also a protest from artist cus X changed their info to make it clear they will steal all your art and feed it to their AI. Sadly it's going to happen no matter what but some people are moving here to make it harder and to stop supporting.

kind of like setting up dating site filters when you're not looking to date.
A norm, heck, a community?
Bluesky def has a different vibe than twitter

Also, someone gave the really vital tip on how to activate erotica in the app, so there's that.

or forget
Because they don't use tags to mute and "show less like this" does nothing
The algorithm is screwy or you're all pumping them up in popularity
