I simply do not understand the “but they’ll pack it back” objections
in what world is one where both sides pack it back and forth worse than what we have now, in which we are 6-3 for “laws are only real if they help Republicans”?
packing the court is the only viable response if we want rule of law

Pack the Court. If we are serious about the defense of these rights, we pack the Court. Simple as that. They pack it back, we pack it again. We do it until we reach consensus on long-term reforms to the judiciary. I don't know what it's going to take for people to get it.

("It" here might just be the Court, or the whole Constitution...)
if our side doesn't rise to the same effort, we'll be stuck "working" with a system antagonistic to us
they're disempowering lower courts too while they're at it, consolidating power into the tiny chamber they *do* own that way
Marbury
Was
Robbed
and even if it somehow did, the moral and political weight of the court wouldn't be coming back
The Dems' opening position on this issue needs to be that we will #DoubleTheFederalJudiciary

We had a Dem President for four years in-between.....FOUR YEARS.😩
And esp. Build a solid majority in the Senate.
Boring and not revolutionary, I know...

Do good things, win reelection. Do nothing good, lose. Simple as that.
Democrats losing elections sometimes is normal, but we need the ability to pass policy while we have power.
The quicker we get there the better.
Then I want someone to propose having the entire country move to the Missouri plan for nominating SCOTUS justices
The problem *is the Court* itself.
At this point, though, I see no good options that seem remotely likely.
It will continue to happen. We will have to keep fighting. Therefore, a plan which involves us continuing to fight is not a bad plan. It is, in fact, the only kind of plan there is.
Court reform is necessary to stop the court from screwing a Dem president, not to save us from a Republican trifecta.
The judicial and legislative are effectively neutered by these people. Any existing law on the books can be overturned or altered by them if they want to.
sounds preferable to the current uninterrupted 50-year run of reactionaries to me, personally
I now realize that was wrong. The degradation of the law is becoming intolerable and we need to fix it by all peaceful means at our disposal. Lest someone decide to use non peaceful means.
Every president gets to pick X(5 or 7 should do it) amount of judges and then they get Y(18/22) years long appointments so it rotates semi-fairly and mid term for future presidents. EZ
Well honey. This all went back to the great packing wars of 2026.
Because it surprises me it isn't like that. Why isn't the Supreme Court 1 justice per appeal circuit?
The odds of a 10-3 Republican Supreme Court are much higher than the odds of a 7-6 non-Fundie Supreme Court.
Also, don’t call it “packing”. Brand it “rebalancing the court”.
Same goes for Garland's DOJ, and then back to Biden for never canning Garland.
Judges should be appointed the system. Not based on political fealties.
The UK supreme court is not without faults, but it's a damn sight better than what the US has.
Parliament does not appoint any judges in the UK. They are done from within the judiciary.
Their fealty is to the law. Not a politician.
It is clear that your current SC justices are bowing down to Trump at every turn.
Otherwise, you're just sitting in a corner begging not to be hit again.
They're the real doomers hiding behind a mask of realism.
✅️ "creating jobs"
Technology supports conducting a whole country referendum every day, so that's OK.
The constant notifications that you have to rule on two more supreme court cases before 5 today are really annoying, though.
It’s a lot for people to understand, but folks are trying to make it easier. Contempt of Court with Eli Mystal is an excellent primer: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/contempt-of-court-with-elie-mystal/id1693687429
