I have wondered if the New York Times has been acting as handmaidens of fascism because the paper's leaders find it appealing, but now I'm wondering how many people with prominent positions there are just genuinely stupid.

And it didn't take listening to see the American flag.
The audio mix didn't serve him well. With a better mix it's at least -more- accessible.
50+: "Is the halftime show in English? I am baffled."
20+: * translates what Lamar said*
I am not sure how you made this jump from people perhaps not understanding lyrics. 👀
Now that you asked: GOP-enabled coup and Musk’s incel posse minions are hot topics in our house too.
But I do like poetry set to music! Meaning becomes clear as you parse the structure, which apparently nyt is unable to do. Not to mention the dance and the flag.
An Italian singer whose made-up lyrics mimicked American English, apparently proving that Italians would like any English song. It was a huge hit.

Stress levels are high, so no wonder people jump to weird conclusions.
btw, 50+ (57, 59) didn’t infer they don’t like popular music (though they don’t know about the fuse with Drake. Why would they?), the lyrics were not their rhymes to follow.
Let’s move on.
Lamar’s symbolism was brilliant and I like Rap/hip-hop, but at 57, it’s not a ‘language’ I learned as a teen, so some explanation of nuance from my kids IS important.
- Gaza war is deeply unpopular and Biden escalated with US arms
- student loan forgiveness felt like false hope from Biden
- entry level job market is awful
Well, buckle up.

I keep reminding myself, those snowflake brand white guys are severely outnumbered. I think this is their big dying cry. And I don't mean that I wish them physical harm. I mean, their mentalities.
I was part of a group that used to counter protest anti-choice events and we always waved around American flags

To this day Springsteen needs subtitles to order lunch.
Do better
Thanks.
It also didn’t stop me enjoying the show. I thought it was great.
I am reading explainers today though.
And so they, too, become complicit.
Even I caught much of the story that Lamar was telling. Not all, because I didn’t care about his feud with Drake. His imagery and choreography were so stunning. And what I didn’t catch, I could look up
This symbol reminds us that America was founded on the backs of Black people: through slavery.
See: their Hur Report coverage for one of many examples.
Not even subtext. That reporter needs a cognitive test performed on them if they can’t understand what’s being said.
👍
Also:
No one has to like it, or even get it. But anyone who watched the half time show should be able to recognize that using so much American iconography—Uncle Sam, the US Flag—was an attempt to say something.
Can no one read between any lines at all and also understand incredible obvious things like the literally words
Every time they advertised on Twitter I used to respond with a screencap of that and it caused them to delete and remake the tweet within an hour or less

Or, and I think this is more likely, they made assumptions, wrote up their article before the show, and an editor shoved in some pics and hit publish after
That was a brilliant performance, with a ton of social commentary.

that's not a pithy response or a joke. the stupidity they put on display is in service of the fascism that they're propping up. it's an integral aspect of how fascism operates
The lyric that made me perk up my ears was the,
"probably a minor", pointedly calling out pedophilia.
Read the words. You will be impressed.
But I really think the best thing you can do is stop giving legacy media the attention they don’t deserve, and actually use new media to follow good independent journalism.
The problems with Indy and new media are many and moving, the problems with legacy are small and persistent.
Oh, right that legacy thing.
But as a bastion of Liberalism they wanted a message that would have appeal to right-wing White voters. They're worried this will do the opposite.
The Liberals know their 'big tent' political strategy is being destroyed by the different ethnic groups abandoning them.
I could see the politics from the other side of the world. 5 minutes cursory examination of the internet showed me even more
