Schumer's logic here also dictates getting rolled on the debt ceiling and on next year's budget. I think he's got to go

Schumer: "For sure, the Republican bill is a terrible option. It is not a clean CR. It is deeply partisan. It doesn't address far too many of this country's needs. But I believe allowing Donald Trump to take even much more power via a government shutdown is a far worse option."

Vote no on Blackmail Budget!
Utterly pathetic.
I don’t think they had any chance in the debt ceiling because there was absolutely no way they were prepared for their bluff to be called to use it effectively.
Democrats could get out in front of the cameras and tell the people what Is in Trump's budget
That is my modal outcome. A weak ruined state gov that functions like a LatAm fascist country bouncing back and forth to “reform” but that doesn’t really work.
Can anyone call a vote? I doubt it. Is it majority? Etc etc.
If they can’t do it. It’s not worth trying.
If it does, then somebody should immediately call no confidence on him.
Either way, I will be surprised if he is still minority leader next week.
I'm not 100% on senate procedures either, but if a leader loses the whip in ANY system, he should step down, because he is no longer able to lead.
I don't know the actual procedure needed
That doesn't mean he'll have them tomorrow.
Just: this IS the exact same bill they just rejected yesterday, or no?
That’s part of why we’re incandescent. Because he said that then today said “here you go!”
meanwhile Trump's planning to invoke the Alien and Sedition act, you know, the one that was last used to detain Japanese Americans in concentration camps in WWII, so, yeah, things are swell.
will be fun finding out if they double back or if Schumer found different suckers
Buddy.
In a pre-2020 world maybe DJT is going to shutter the Department of Education.
“I’m going to pass a law that repeals the 1st amendment”
“No”
“I’ll shut the government down”
“Oh, well in that case…”
That's the main thing about incumbency.
Even if he wins his primary no vote in the general from me. There's no diffeerence between a collaborator or a fascist.
When they try to post bullshit statements decrying the next round of illegal firing and theft nobody will blame Trump. This is on them now. Schumer and Co took personal responsibility for it all.
If the government shuts down, any attempt to fix it brings us right back to where we are now.
Just plain stupid by Schumer.
It's a fight that doesn't seem to be winnable
As opposed to say, being an actual opposition to the damage, and acting like you stand for something different. This is why D's lose. They don't show any fight, just a Chamberlain-like appeasement.
I can almost guarantee nobody will care about the "fight" after you lose.
- Shutdown would at most gain a 30-day CR, so not a real solution.
- Meanwhile, T & M would say that Fed layoffs are due to the shutdown, not to their own illegal usurpation.
- Shutdown sets T loose, and that's worse for the country.

They are terrified of the Trump voting base. They are afraid of being murdered by their own voters.
As long as Trump is over 29%, no R group is going against him.
I am going to be calling Warner and Kaine tomorrow asking them to depose Schumer and Durbin, because this is just BAD LEADERSHIP.
And if your leader loses the complete confidence of the troops, he/she has to go.
Chuck needs to step down after this debacle.
1) Government shutdown
2) Gets blamed on Republicans
3) They start feeling heat
4) They then come to compromise.
I'm dubious about those steps, but I can at least see the argument that it's worth a shot.
This is way worse than that. Pure surrender.
So it’s not just him that’s not capable of meeting the moment.
They're just scared of a fight.
Both options here are horrible because the situation is horrible, not because of Schumer.
What a pathetic sniveling fucking coward. He's DONE.
And any Dem following him is fucking insane
Especially since it appears there must be plenty of senators who disagree with him, even Warner is voting no on cloture
