I’ll just carefully pour the new one’s content into the old and hope it doesn’t overflow. I knew I should have checked. This makes three now. You can never have too much nutmeg.
I was about to make a "you smoke banana peels, not mace joke" but then realized you are like a nutmeg shaman on your profile. I will bow to your superior nutmeg knowledge.
If it's whole nutmeg, then break it open and inspect *before* you grate. Mildew/fungus is very common. A lot of nutmeg (around here) tastes like sh*t bc of that. Don't be afraid to bite off a little bit just to taste. Flavor profile (here) is extremely broad/random.
Buy whole nutmeg. It will stand out because of its size and whole ones last for 5 years. I found a cheap, tiny grater I keep right next the jar to use only for nutmeg. I love using it for French toast.
When I was young, my mom had one in a little tin. I don't recall her using nutmeg often, but it was always kind of fascinating when she'd break it out and grate the little thing.
I'm going to defend having 4 paprikas because they're 4 different types: "regular," sweet, hot, smoked. (Even though the regular is just a blend of sweet and hot.)

Truth.
Yes yes yes my four containers of cloves are right here by my side
They're my emotional support cloves.
It's not because I forgot I already had some.
It also regrows while you aren't looking, that's why you don't need more.
Basically, nutmeg is Wolverine.
