Fun fact: IP protocol was specifically designed to be resilient against nodes going down. But IT guys know: It‘s always layer 1.

I think some of it is misunderstanding by John Q Public how fiber cables work. It's not like copper, you can't just wrap it back together.

Eventually they sent out an engineer to check the wires. Some idiot had cut thru the phone wire ~20yrs previously and taped it back together
