Moving to central or downstate NY and opening a family restaurant with thick maroon carpet, wood paneling, placemats with local businesses, formal family pictures from 1976-1985, and a salad bar featuring creamy Italian dressing and chocolate pudding from an industrial sized can

"WE HAVE RICE PUDDING TODAY!"
I figured, if it's something that only happens certain days, and they have to advertise, it's gotta be good...
It was the best rice pudding I have ever tasted.
The owner's 90 year old Italian grandma made it from scratch. It was cool, creamy, and had little bits of lemon zest. Absolutely incredible.
Also, if you don't want chocolate pudding, we have a rotating, fluorescent case with glass dishes of rice pudding, carrot cake, and jello. Or we can bring you out a tray of fake cake and pie slices to look at.
50s diners were popular in the 80s, so therefore 80s themed restaurants should be popular today!
your restroom has a strong industrial lemon urinal cake scent and the hot faucet is far too strong on the sink
Oh, you sweet summer child, those have been there since I was a wee lass
And either individually wrapped starlight mints, or a metal bowl of after-dinner butter mints with little tongs
These go with the $11.99 hot roast beef dinner that comes with a potato, vegetable, salad bar, rolls and butter, and choice of chocolate pudding, rice pudding, or a scoop of ice cream served in a freezing cold metal dish
Gawd, I miss that place - couldn't even begin to tell you how many roast beef or hot brown dinners I had in there over the years...
This is a while ago now, though, so I wouldn't trust me all the way on this. 🤣
it wasn't an expensive place at all but the food was good and it was just NICE. I was sad when it closed
Customers sue; waitstaff drop things and break them.
Someone steam-cleaning every night is probably a long-term cost savings.

this is their Ceviche (raw fish cured in lime juice) and Jalea (batter-fried seafood)

It's the only kind of cup I have at home.
Cheesecake Factory glasses
Thick glass, very solid, weighted bottoms.
I have no idea how or why but the local discount store chain keeps getting in cases of them...

Does it come with the good ice?
- cinnamon-apple-disc garnishes
- chicken croquette special on Tuesdays
- tomato juice as an appetizer
- ham-salad sandwiches at lunchtime
- complimentary relish dishes
- Reunite Lambrusco from the bar
I would joyfully eat at this place once a week at the very least.
