I wish I could post video here because this is either the saddest off road vehicle ever devised, the worst off road driver on earth, or some haunted combination of both. the most average jeep could crush this in under ten seconds

I saw a link to the Reddit post earlier today, there were a bunch of people insisting the guy didn't know how to drive off-road and with the particular sort of steering this truck uses.
On the other hand, there absolutely would be those people whether or not they knew what they were talking about.
The claims I read - that I'm profoundly unqualified to assess, even if I had watched the video - amounted to saying the driver was accelerating too hard and losing traction, and was oversteering (that this car steers differently from ICE trucks somehow?). Also that the tires are poorly chosen.
Some of it was driver error. But given that a Subaru Outback wouldn't spin out like that truck did even with regular tires--also, I have to wonder about visibility issues with the hood/windshield/seat configuration. The driver might not have been able to see past the front very well.
Nah, you see it's designed to look untextured to trick the universe into thinking it's far enough away that it doesn't have to run physics calculations on it. This lets it move through any surface unimpeded.
Brother, my ten year old crv would crush that. It's got to be just an awful driver. There's no way any of you is that bad and those conditions. Heck, I drove a Mach e today. That would do better than this.
I’ve done a similar drive in my 2004 corrola. The “road” through the White Mountains in AZ to get to the campground was worse than this and my car handled it way better.
Doesn't it have independent torque control over the wheels? It's spinning like the front has a limited slip differential with a shared motor and no off-road mode. Better keep these things on the road, where they can run down children.
Saw the vid on YouTube. That was horrific. My mostly stock truck could climb that loaded to the top with gear while towing my boat. In fact, it looks to me like I could put mine in 4-low, choose first gear, point it at that hill, and not spill my coffee. Truly epic fail.
Honestly, I would have done better than that in my old ‘69 VW Transporter. That thing was a beast off road with great traction with a good portion of the weight on the back wheels and excellent ground clearance.
Never going to have mud on the floor and a cooler for cold drinks and fast food wrappers in places because everyone was just too tired after that long day
I'm getting the impression from this thread that this situation is only a challenge for the Queen Wagon Cyber Truckster; no other vehicle is challenged by this.
This is never going to be the vehicle that the newbie reverses into a post the first time using at work and everyone just roasts the poor person and doesn’t GAF about the massive scratch and no one tells the gaffer
I have a permanently suspended Twitter acct that I’m not permitted to deactivate so I was able to watch the video and yeah, it’s really something. I’m biased bc I hate Elon but also it really struggles to get up these lil hills
It is absolutely worth going over to https://nitter.net to watch this. It's like some kind of nature documentary where the oldest Cybertruck in the herd almost doesn't make it over the ridge to safety when the Cyberjackels attack.
Better offroad tires would help tremendously. The problem could also be helped with software tuned to minimize slippage since there's no lo-range transfer case on the EV. Who knows how tuned the SW is on this thing. And trade-offs for range are always going to compromise traction.
Watching that little fishtail there was enough to tell me I don't want to drive that thing on ice. No matter what tires are on it (I saw the video elsewhere). I also wonder about visibility issues.
I'd be hesitant to drive it in Hollister, honestly. The soil there is dusty, silty, rutted, and hilly. All things this behemoth seems to be stymied by. Black ice? Yikes.
And I don't even want to consider what this thing will cost to insure. IIHS crash tests should be interesting.
None of it matters. Xers will call it the greatest, most capable truck ever built, just like Donny Trump is 6’5” and 215 pounds of Olympic rock muscle.

And like….thats the most horrible car design I’ve ever seen. I honestly thought they were joking when it first got announced. To see it become a reality it’s just nuts.
I saw one driving next to me the other day (I live near Tesla HQ). It looked like nothing so much as a project slapped together by a teenager in their parent's sheet metal shop.
The release date is November 30, 2023, and they are still doing testing and programming? This POS has been being engineered for a lot of years. This kind of thing would have been finished long ago by any other vehicle manufacturer. Makes you wonder what else they haven't 'got just right yet'.
I cannot imagine what kind of weird echo chambering was going on to design this abomination, but everything that I have seen about it would make it just a shitty off road vehicle.
The power to the wheels seems to be stuck in drag racing mode, it is going to dig itself into a pit in the mud.

Toyota's crawl control makes this thing look dumb.

This is really pathetic.
