Really just the one that should result in teeth getting bashed out with hammers, and then every single other salute, which you can freely choose from with zero consequence. Can even make some shit up, if you like.
I mean you shouldnt do the standard soldier salute if youre not in uniform but thats more of a rule than a controversy. Same with Scouting America (BSA)
Increasingly refuse to take any shit from Europeans re: the country's alt-right problem or bigoted instincts as if they don't do the exact same shit and in some cases invented it
Well you see they just substitute explicit racism with calling all the people they don't like "immigrants" (but only certain skin tones). And of course their Romani hatred doesn't count because "they *really are* vermin".
this was a huge issue at my elementary school. We'd do it on the playground and when the teachers found out what it meant, it was banned. None of us even understood what it meant really, we were like 8 or something.
oh yeah my friends on the block loved wrestling had no idea what that meant, or what this meant. the most goody-goody mom offered to tell us and we were like "no thank you, please do not!"
two fun facts about this pic:
1) White guy 100% supported them and backed them doing this because they talked about it beforehand.
2) the reason they're saluting using different hands is because they only had one pair of gloves at the ready.
Years later, that white runner had the idea to leave his spot empty on a statue commemorating this so that people could take selfies on it. I think he's wearing a pin supporting them, too?
His name was Peter Norman, and he was a very cool dude who got the short end of the stick from his government for standing up for the right cause. A true ally
I should have googled their names to be more respectful but I didn't expect more than one person seeing my reply. But yeah this photo is still one of the photos of all time.
Oh, wasn't correcting, just adding more context. Also, while of course John Carlos and Tommie Smith are taking the bigger risk here, also worth noting that splitting the black gloves was Norman's idea too. He was 100% behind them.
He supported Carlos and Smith, which caused him to be ostracized from Australian track. He was left off the 1972 roster even though his times were good enough.
When he passed (heart attack), Carlos and Smith were among his pallbearers.
I would become suspicious of someone who went around doing the Attack On Titan salute but that's mostly because I'd wonder if it was a proxy for the other one
Oh, anytime a Democratic president salutes the military! That's ALWAYS "controversial". They are inevitably doing it wrong. Clinton, Obama, whoever. Many such cases.
What's funny for me is it's the exact opposite of how the Army teaches you to salute, "pretend you're palming a playing card; hold your hand so no one else can see the card."
Oh, I'd never noticed US military salute differently from ours (not being into that sort of thing).
I feel this one is a better representation of a traditional British controversial salute.
Well, you've got your Nazi salute, your neo-nazi salute, your heil Hitler, your sig heil, the Roman salute, not to be confused with the Italian fascist salute, your Bellamy salute...
The hard part is they all look the same and mean about the same thing so it's really hard to figure out.
Uhhh - there’s a WHOLE SET of participation trophies to Mediocrity all across the southern United States…

Apparently, the "Roman salute" thing was ginned as a story to legitimize the fascists. There's no evidence the ancient Romans saluted like that; just 20th century Romans.
Probably not, it was popularized in European neoclassical art like The Oat of the Horatii and from there to nationalist 20th century art like the movie Cabiria which probably inspired Mussolini.
From what some experts have said online there are variations of the Nazi salute. Mussolini favored a different arm angle. Hitler had two: one for crowds and one for senior officers. Neo-nazis have a few slightly different ones. The Klan has a version of it too.
It's only kind of jokingly called a salute but the "one finger" or "two finger" salute for middle finger(s) raising is the best I can think of for another.
Whenever a Democratic president gives a half hearted salute due to holding something or being distracted is apparently more controversial according to media outrage
Closest thing I can think of is the tomahawk chop but that's just regular shitty and done in a very specific context, not a sign of full-on descent into fascism shitty.
I can also think of white power sign, Wolf salute, in some cases Tawhid salute (this one is controversial), a couple of three-finger nationalist salutes, Rabia sign, it can get pretty complex and situation-dependent!

Thankfully it's pretty easy to tell these two "controversial" salutes apart.
1) White guy 100% supported them and backed them doing this because they talked about it beforehand.
2) the reason they're saluting using different hands is because they only had one pair of gloves at the ready.

BRB.
take away that concept, how would bootlickers express sub tendencies?

And didn’t Trump salute a guy in North Korea?
Oh yeh!
Huh.
That just looks kinda messy to me.
*ducks*

Some day they'll even take the middle finger from us, those monsters.
The hard part is they all look the same and mean about the same thing so it's really hard to figure out.

I mean Hitler did get a lot of his inspiration for racist policies from America too so I wouldn't be surprised..
There’s only one and it is BAD
In our defense, it's what Grandma would've wanted
And none of them are intertwined with genocide
