as bad as this site can be, linkedin right now is unbearable. i can't handle the "I'm glad the tariff is delayed but I'm sick of the US being the world's ATM" people

LinkedIn is for people in SaaS sales to tell stories that never actually happened about people that don’t actually exist using 57 single-sentence paragraphs. Anyone discussing anything remotely serious on that website needs to find God.
I've connected w/ more interesting math ed people there than here, but I keep having to hold my fingers back at the corporate edu-philanthropists saving us by strangling us.
Mine is just katrillions of hardworking people who've been abruptly fired from their dream jobs and have no idea what to do next. (And then those *other* people sliding into their comments.) What a fun time to be job searching!
being revanchist in a long term hegemonic state is so incoherent, all the agreements already wildly favor you, so basically any revision is worse, but you still got to convince yourself it's necessary somehow
yeah the actual working scientists and engineers i engage with are luckily pretty cool, it's when i venture into the linkedin news section it's all freaks
i only have a fake linkedin account called like Gary Dunbar with a generic old white guy pfp i can't remember why i made it but it was probably to harass someone
Like every social media platform, a lot of the terminally online posters are actually digital creators or influencers. It's their job to flood the medium with content or at least part of their job. The rest... Well, their actual job isn't intellectually stimulating but it still pays!
Exactly. These people have convinced themselves that the systems
-we created
-to benefit us
-controlled by us
Are rigged against us. It's just baby brained nonsense all the time.
"I'm tired of the world sending us goods and services in exchange for dollars that give them access to our unparallel capital markets, and raise our stock market to unprecedented new highs! I'd rather be poor than see any foreigner get rich. Isolationism/autarky now!"
I HAVE to be on LinkedIn every day for my job and I can’t stomach even one post, because if I do read one, I know I’ll feel compelled to call someone a drooling psycho and then I lose my job forever
Accounting LinkedIn is mostly people worried about IRS cuts, tax people need to interact with the IRS directly a lot and it recently got a bit better but is now going to get a lot worse.
Twitter ostensibly is about compression of words, even though you can blow past the word count with a "read more" tag, it doesn't travel as well. Linkedin *looooooooooves* when you write an essay about your independence, resolve, and heroism.
oh okay, I see the comparison there! I use Tumblr and (by necessity) LinkedIn and the vibes are so diametrically opposed that I wasn't thinking about the mechanics of it.
I think about that Brian Eno quote that flaws in a medium eventually become things you miss. A certain kind of too-online "intersectionality" used to drive me crazy on Tumblr, but now I'd kill to have everyone doing that instead of discussing the exact number of trans people it's okay to murder.
I am so deeply embarrassed by my online activism over the last decade that right now the last thing I want is either of those things, but I get what you're saying.
the porn purge was awful and sucked, but some of us stuck around and it's still a pretty great place! I mean, you know, as compared to other social media platforms!
The US once made a social media site to lure Cubans into sharing state department anticuba propaganda so they could psyop Cubans into tearing down their government and I'm convinced LinkedIn is just that but for Americans.
The virtue signaling stuff I get, especially for people in sales, but find distasteful. The stuff that isn’t about networking in any apparent way, just like, “This is an idea I am going to share with the world,” stuff? Completely opaque
The number of people here in the US that understand how tariffs and duty outlays ACTUALLY work is astonishingly low. The entire world industrial economy is loosely held together by like 17 people who truly know what they're doing.
I found out I was somehow following Forbes. Blocking them made my feed a lot more bareable.
Their articles were bad enough but the comments they drew were all tech industry boomers going “bailing out billionaires is just good business but free school lunches will collapse western civilization!”
I've seen a lot of condescending boomer/X-er replies to "I lost my Fed job" posts that go "I know you're upset, but posting things like this isn't a good look"
Going so deep into "free trade means treats for me and useless green paper with my presidents on it for you" thought that you come out the other side thinking "actually it's unfair to ME that you get these green presidents!!"
Hmm I wonder if there's any economic benefit to being "the bank" in this analogy. Based on my understanding of whether or not banks make money, probably not!
I saw someone scolding the Center of Biological Diversity for doing “political posts” as if the whole orgs purpose wasn’t suing the government for environmental protections

I don't think they are code generated because they are too incoherent for that
Good luck on that next job, Skippy!
LinkedIn is just Twitter now: overrun with AI and fully aligned with Musk/4chan as the Tumblr-Chan War consumes the US presidency in its 11th year
Might as well be a forum for reptiles to post as far as how much I can understand that mindset
