I've been to Chinese factories you see people doing repetitive menial tasks like clipping parts together, next to a giant hopper of components, and a bedroll so they can sleep on the concrete floor once the shift is done start again 6 the next morning. Can you imagine Americans doing that I can't
Yeah, well I guess Trump voters will be glad that American companies will also have to construct suicide barriers to prevent workers them from killing themselves.
Well, hang on. The part you quote is lacking the context in the clip. The tariffs are misguided, but it is in everyone’s interest to make those parts with screws using high tech (largely automated) factories in the US.
Except you need steel to make screws & that’s tariffed. And you need building materials & that’s tariffed. You need potash for steel & we don’t have it-so we need to import it-tariffed. It’s still cheaper to manufacture overseas & make US consumers pay more.
We can bring slave labor back to the US! Millions of people screwing in little screws for 10 hour shifts, 7 days a week, for $50, just like in China, but here in America, land of the free
Actually, as much as I dislike xina, they have really strict labour laws and most people working in the tech industry, even in the factories, earn a decent wage by local standards. That's why a lot of companies have been moving to India and Vietnam to cut labour costs.
And many those craft trades still require education, at least in my state. HVAC and electrician licenses require classes and apprenticeship and continuing education
Exactly & they pay really good. Around here there’s shortages in many trades, older workers retiring & not many young people coming in.They require a 1-2 yr tech-school certificate so can be an easier route but they don’t get high pay until the apprenticeship is done
Awesome, now can we get a ton of others to do the same?! Seems like so many people aiming for jobs in job markets where there aren't any, are less in very near future, etc.
Meanwhile everyone in tech space I know can't find any local or US software engineers, etc, with big $ waiting for them.
My late father was once asked what the worst job he ever had was…his answer was turning one screw in an automobile factory after WWII. He promptly returned to get his PhD.
We'll build shops and hospitals and barracks
Right under their noses
Right under their feet!
Everything we need, banks, prisons and schools
Not poems and rubbish... science! So we can get everything working!
Even taking into account that he said America is going to produce robots that do this and then Americans will produce the engineers that will fix the robots, no freaking way will that happen with this 🤡 administration. #ThingsThatWillNeverHappen part 40,121,999
High tech factories....Maga with a grade 5 level of education wont take robotics engineering or mechanical robotics to repair these machines. They are too dumb- Musk
Well, sure, as long as you pay them $40 an hour with a union and outstanding health benefits. But that ain’t gonna happen. This entitled dickhead is full of shit.
The only way this could happen is if those army of Americans worked for 7 dollars a day, and the factories they worked in were built on slave labor. Which is a pretty clear indicator why they don’t want educated people and are tanking our economy to be more competitive.
Or they have child labor with their little hands putting on those little screws instead of going to school and learning useless things like math, science, and history.
Florida is already changing child labor laws. Age for kids to work all night at 14 while going to school. I’m sure they are all going to jump at working all night. More will quit school , too tired to work and others will go to drugs to help stay awake during day. This is sick !
We're gonna get paid half that and it'll be okay because we'll all be living in company towns, housed in our little company-owned shacks, eating company-owned bread, and buying what little we can afford from company catalogs.
This dude really needs to tour a modern cell phone factory. The only time humans touch them is when they wipe off the dust and package them. They are completely made by robotic machines.
LOL, especially "millions." Does he also not understand that the main market for cell phones is NOT in the United States? Even if companies could find millions of new workers (which they can't), why would these companies risk losing out on sales to the other 96% of the world's population.
There will be arenas where the oligarchs sit and watch you, like they're at The Masters, fight to the death for the one fukin human job available in each factory.
But if the factory manufacturing is automated, as Lutnick suggests, there won't be any jobs at that level. They'll be a few engineers, supervisors and that's it. A factory with 1000 human employees will shrink to around 10.
He says where: mechanics and HVAC. I have an uncle with such a job.
What the people who are not very good at math don't get is that such factories run headlines today that say "expanding by 100,000 square feet, will add 50 jobs."
If you don't have humans, you just engineer the robots to work fine in hotter temperatures and you don't need the HVAC. (They've already been proven to work well in near-zero light in some functions.)
Careful here. They admit enough bad things you can focus on. He says here that these jobs would be replaced and automated. And talks about trades and crafts. Focus on the fact that we are not currently outsourcing the jobs he is talking about importing: electricians, HVAC techs etc
Nonsequitur: John Stewart called him, "Secretary of Commerce and cologne sponge," and I almost lost everything I was chewing. Great writers on the Daily Show. This guy is such a sleeze with his forked tongue and slicked back hairloss.
Firing all the academics, the health researchers, driving seniors into the workforce with social security cuts, replacing every creative worker and most office workers with AI.
Yes! Several red states changing child labor laws! Why do Americans go along with this? Keep those Americans below the 1-2% ignorant, controlled, & poor.
Oh, so THAT’s why the regime is making cuts to the Department of Labor and Education. Us working class people will end up in sweat shops, per the billionaire who is serving as commerce secretary. It’s all about the big fish.
You might be right but that’s the future internationally too. It would be nice if there were a way (other than blind tariffs) to do that automated production domestically.
Remember during T 1.0 when they said Foxconn was going to build a factory in the Midwest and then it just....never happened. Pepperidge Farm remembers...
First, they have to build the factory, then they have to hire technicians to keep those robots running considering the condition of stem programs in our public schools...
Nope it’s worse, When you buy highly automated equipment like this you generally get the overseas non USA company that supplies it to help you setup your line for a month or so, once that’s done you’ll send them on their way and only have local service techs via an agreed supplier, sometimes the’ll
With his current immigration policies that means Americans to do these jobs. And just like Tesla, they're going to build in places with lower taxes which means poorer education- graduates without stem skills
Which was my point. Currently we have an administration and legislators and their minions believing that factories can just magically appear and they don't cost money to build. Then once they're built they need people to at least maintain the equipment
Which is my point, time and money to build said factories and then more time and money to find people that can at least be trained how to maintain the equipment. These things don't happen magically
Which is close to what they are using now. How do you think they can get the productivity and quality they have now? This guy couldn’t build a Lego set himself
Trust me when I say, those foreign jobs won't hire locals. They will say they require better trained individuals and then bring people from over seas that are "better qualified" for the job. FoxConn is a perfect example.
Manufacturing will always automate to compete with high wages. That is why it went overseas. Only exception is low volume/custom manufacturing. High paying jobs are the ones that are hard to automate. Knowledge work, R&D, design, analysis. Forcing companies to move manufacturing is a boondoggle.
How about an army of millions and millions of human beings putting Lutnick and his ilk to the guillotine. That kind of thing is going to come to America. I mean, choose your fantasy, I guess.
Yeah, no it isn’t. Not unless the plan is to so impoverish a large segment of society that they will do these jobs for the same wages & under the same work conditions as Chinese, Vietnamese, Malaysian, et. workers. No unions, no OSHA, no FLSA, no hope. That’s the only way it works. And fuck that.
No American could live on Vietnamese, Cambodian etc. wages, so prices of goods would have to rise astronomically just so workers didn’t actually starve
Am I the only person who saw the article that said they wanted to send people on antidepressants and in mental health centers and getting mental health help to these Organic Farms way out in The Boondocks. You would harvest the food. You have no devices of any type. Did anyone see this?
I mean it explains getting rid of the labor and replacing it with people who have mental health problems but that doesn't work because I have PTSD and there's no way in hell I could stand in the middle of a field picking something. I have the feeling that's what they want to do. It's so 1984 Orwell
I’m on Wellbutrin and Adderall. To hell w those MAGA asswipes. In their mythology, libruhls don’t know how to shoot. They try to take our meds, try to go all Cultural Revolution on us, they’re in for a surprise.
If America’s comparative advantage is millions of high school grads screwing in tiny screws, we might as well give up now. This is not a positive image of American exceptionalism and a promise of a greater future. Not convincing
If there were some program that could create demand for those types of jobs. I don’t know if such a thing exists, or anyone thought of it, but maybe they should call it the green new deal or something if someone thinks of it…
We have millions of unemployed children, whose eyesight and tiny hands are perfect for those little screws. It's not like they'll have schools to go to. The Golden Age is upon us.
This is an insane thing to say. I give the US less than a month before we have another revolution to stop these idiots. @chrislhayes.bsky.social @chriscillizza.bsky.social @maddow.msnbc.com
This is part of the reason they are attacking education , as they don't want people to be able to make choices . Same as student debt making you a wage slave so are trapped without anyway chance of paying it.
They will do away with minimum wage or drop it to $2/3 an hour
Collapse the country like an old pack of cards and have masses willing to do it to survive on a crust of bread - even take their children out of school to contribute to family income
Mass repossessions reset the housing crisis
And the survivors (they expect people to kill each other - being as it is the sort of thing they would do) will live in the industrial cities with electric collars around their necks
They are such silly boys
Those who think the coal mining industry was great, that Kimberly was the poops, ESP now with worker’s rights and safeties stripped off, they will love it.
Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, line right UP. You wanted these men, time to pay your (devil, Caesar) King his dues.
He thinks people are going to work these jobs like they also DON'T work in the fields picking vegetables and fruits? 🙄 The business model he's explaining doesn't exist.
They targeted Diego Garcia! It’s essentially a US military base, which would most probably notice the UK constructing massive infrastructure around them in order to get around the sales tax.
They're counting on people being desperate enough to do any job when they can't afford food or health care and social services are fewer or no longer available.
I guess it's cheaper to care for nearsighted teenagers, nearly blinded by the close work of soldering legs on chips while children, than to educate them.
Florida is leading the way. Republican led legislature wants 14 year olds to be able to work. Child labor. On top of that they want to pay below federal minimum wage for “apprentice” type positions for 1 year. Florida has become unrecognizable. I’ve been here since 1989 and it’s an embarrassment.
Maybe they will lock them up in factories “to protect them “ so they can’t get out and ‘bad’ people can’t get in. As incompetent as republicans are it will be a pedo dream job, managing kids.
Sorry about my sarcasm but for some reason all I can think of is fascists using kids like indentured servants locking them in and disaster strikes. Fascism is all about controlling people, including children. Trumps EO’s is affecting every part of our lives. Strong arming cEO’s & colleges to bow.
I think that we should expect stupid levels of stupid cruelty because Trump is a stupid man who is addled by mental illness and dementia. All that is left of his younger personality are stupidity, bitterness, a sense of personal victimhood, and a need for vengeance.
What I'm thinking is there is no willing workforce for the jobs he thinks he's bringing back 😂 Planning to make sweatshops popular again? He'll need a lot of immigrants to come back for this grand plan (folly).
2026 is when we learn whether or not we still have free and fair elections with fascists in control of the federal government. We must build an enormous movement that can not be denied by typical election lies.
Really praying we can force him and his useful idiots out within 2yrs 🙏 It took 5+yrs to financially recover from his 1st term and what he's already done this time is far, far worse.
And we'll have to build the factories and the surrounding infrastructures and business communities, which will cost insane amounts of money and take 4-6+ years, at best.
Yes- they all SHUT DOWN decades ago BECAUSE of greedy bastards like HIM whose CEOs & private equity firms exploited CHEAP foreign labor so they wouldn't HAVE to pay Americans a decent wage.
#Tarriffs
They think we're STUPID!
The reality is that the US will become nothing more than a 'failed empire' tourist attraction.
"Oh look kids that's where Wall St used to be".
And Americans waiting tables, carrying bags & cleaning hotel rooms for rich Asians & Europeans.
Oh no. We won’t have tourists back for decades. Maybe generations. No foreigners want to visit and none of us will be able to afford to go anywhere because we’ll be making $2/day, working 7 days a week.
Well my point was that it likely hasn’t been ordered.
It’s likely more of a ‘collective understanding’ that they can get away with a lot more and so their worst urges and sentiments, that they mostly kept tamped down, can surface.
He's trying to convince us that Biden didn't start building factories to make chips. That there was no plan already in place to make chips in the US. "That kind of thing is already here." Stupid idiot.
Trump said CHIPS Act (with bipartisan support) was a waste of money. Yeah, we don't want any of those super hitech jobs...we want to work on assembly lines! Did he say HVAC jobs???? I'm pretty sure we don't send our HVAC systems to China for maintenance! These idiots are an insult to stupid people.
Same as his other 'term' in office, he fired all the people who knew how the country runs and knew protocol. Remember his salute to the Korean general?
He, and they, didn't know he was president of the Virgin Islands. And all the other ignorant arrogant gaffs he makes on the world stage.
I have done what I have been able to do to counter their largely successful efforts to establish the narrative , for five years on Twitter. The Republican Noise Machine has served them well and Democrat voices have not been able to counter successfully.
The idea he had about getting "disinfectant into the blood"? I seriously think he had no knowledge of how long we've already used antibiotics, antiseptics or disinfectants. He believed he was the first to think of them.
Ignorance is bliss which means he's an "uneducated vacuous stupid idiot."
I did not know that. The man has an endless supply of whitewash! Thank you! I'm caring for my 91 year old mother and it's hard to keep up with everything the Buffoon and his minions do and say.
Remember all the times Trump screamed 'they're letting people out of insane asylums'....he was right...they're ALL in his administration and orbit!!!!!
Yeah, rather than being made a better person by his experience,
he doubled-down on being an SOB. He got help, but he judges anybody else that might need help. What an ass
And those of us who didn't get a free ride and took out govt loans are the "losers" because we weren't born into wealth and tried to make something of ourselves other than a screw turner.
Then after graduation he randomly bumped into a very rich guy, Mr Cantor of Cantor Fitzgerald, who took him and sponsored his entire career up to this.
His brother died in the WTC on 9/11. He kisses Trump’s tush, Trump takes advice from Laura Loony Tunes Loomer
about national security personnel, and she says 9/11 is was an inside job. How effed up is that?
They’ll use prisoners and they won’t pay them. That’s what they’re aiming for. And dismantling the Dept of Education is a pretty great way to ensure there’s not going to be a shortage of hands
In the next sentence he says it's all going to be automated and it will create jobs like electricians. Basically he's saying it will create construction jobs for building and jobs for maintaining the factory. Basically it's not going to create many jobs so it's a scam but a different scam.
Right, it's all another grift. Some of the companies building data centers are the richest companies in America, they can afford the environmental compliance and pay taxes. In the long run it would actually be better because some of those jobs (even if not that many) are highly skilled.
100%! Computers just sit there and do their thing all day and just need maintenance for the building and for the computers. It's not going to create a big number of jobs. Just a few janitors, IT people, security guards and some temp construction jobs.
That video was pretty Orwellian but it does help me understand why some people might support tariffs: basically they are effective liars and without fact checking it might "make sense" to some people even though it's wrong
Oh you just don’t get it. They will join the millions and millions of Americans picking grapes and tomatoes, and harvesting lettuce and cauliflower, and cleaning hotel rooms.
Lutnick (if he were honest): “The army of AI robots screwing in millions of little screws to make iPhones is going to come to America. Human being labor, with their annoying lunch breaks, bathroom breaks, sick pay and unions won’t be needed. They can just starve and die”.
Whenever they start going on and on about building new factories in America, I wonder how dumb do they think we are? Any new factory is going to be fully automated. No unions, no high paying jobs, no benefits. And no company will relocate without massive tax breaks.
DO NOT dismiss this. The people in power are out of touch but believe them when they say this is the goal.
That is why they're gutting the dept of ed, trying to stop children from reading, keeping them unhealthy and unfed getting children ready to put those iPhones together.
Right...but they are stupid...like STOOPID stupid and _will further destroy America trying to implement financially nonsensical policy. They're already trying to pass laws that children can work overnight in Florida when they're not in school and they're talking about going to a 4-day school week.
I don’t know if you can show them. They just stay in their rich people clique. You can see that in fuckface Trump. He couldn’t care less about Americans
Knowing Apple’s passion for consistency, speed, and precision, it is much more likely Apple uses custom designed robots to install the screws on iPhones. Does the Commerce Secretary fact check anything? What’s much more likely to be coming to America is more bullsh*t from this Administration.
He says "which will be automated" in the video. So it's worse. He's using manual labor as an example of a job that will come back, while at the same time admitting it won't.
When they gut the education system, they will have the millions of human beings to screw in little screws while they laugh from above. I hate these people.
These wealthy politicians and and their propagandists all have the same dream for a society. A world of slave robots that serve them with total obedience. It's an unattainable goal they are selling. It's anti social engineering.
I have questions: what is the estimated amount of human employees that will be staffed at any given point in time, within a Robotic/AI run factory and how many factories would be needed to support consumer demands?
Bonus question, how long before most tradecrafts become obsolete due to automation?
1 technician for every 10 robots is what my genAI says. That's on the low end of robots, but I think there's additional jobs, could be even 1:7 but then one robot replace more than one worker (3 shifts+weekend, 5 workers at least).
LUTNICK "Well, remember the army of millions & millions of human beings screwing in little screws to make iPhones. That kind of thing is gonna come to America, it's gonna be automated...the trade craft of America is gonna fix them."
We are not screwed if we unite in the millions and fight. Remember, there are way more of us than there are of the 1%... And they need us more than we need them.
It seems most people didn't watch the clip. He clearly references those screws being put in in an automated fashion. Factories will be automated. So the jobs will be maintaining the automated factory. Not the job resurgence promised but at least the factory owners will do well out of it.
The humans are for making repairs. As if anyone would repair something for the same cost as to purchase. Those jobs already don’t exist. Try finding an appliance repair tech that can do it for less than the cost of a new machine.
No one wants to risk the capital to create these factories in the US when all the materials you need to create “whatever tf” can be arbitrarily tariffed. Also, consumers won’t be able to afford to buy your products.
There is no incentive for the business class to build these automated factories.
Not gonna happen. That's why they are de-funding education and repel labour protection and child labour laws (Florida, 14 year olds can now work night shifts on school days) so they have cheap American labour to put in those those little screws for cheap. Machines like that are insanely expensive.
They're called "lights out" or dark factories because you don't need to provide light for robots. These factories employ 5-6 humans, at most, to sit at screens watching for malfunctions. That's it.
And hey, you might need a couple of mechanics and electricians to “maintain the robots.” But how is the profitability of these (imaginary) robot companies going to get back to anyone other than the factory owner? Because if it doesn’t, who is going to but the products from these robot factories?
This will never happen. Building machines that can do that are prohibitively expensive and not as reliable as a human trained to do the same thing on every unit. Plus we don’t have the skilled labor here to oversee that kind of machinery.
Part 2 to this is that complex devices like phones and computers made by a company that cares about quality can’t automate because it’s easier to give feedback to a person to make a change rather than reprogram or retool a machine and hope it works
2 years time, when the factory is complete, we will see how far automation has gone (and of what it is capable). Because it's easier to not pay a machine than it is to pay a human.
Have you ever been to a factory? Worked on product development? This is a delusional fantasy at best. It would cost millions of dollars and many years (and sooooo many tariffs) to implement, vs walking over to someone and saying “hey tighten that a little more”. Plus US workers would never do it
And virtually every economist has told them that. This is disinfectant injections type economic solutions. And the worst part about this is it was completely predictable.
Uh, thousands of people working on their feet 8+ hours a day is exactly how the car you drive got built. It's also how computers manufactured in America got built not even 20 years ago. I'm not understanding what you're upset about
Yeah & most of us who have worked those jobs know they’re miserable, so if you get the opportunity, a lot of us go back to school or find other work to avoid having to do hard labor as a career for decades.
But please lecture us more, it’s obvious YOU have never done hard labor by that comment. 🤦♂️
LOL, please go on about this reality that has not existed for decades.
Nobody with half a brain would want to break their body down working manual labor, when you can simply pursue an education, & make many times what the cap is in manual labor jobs.
There will be no upward mobility. Their idea is for us to become like China with 99.9999% of people working in a factory and then the.0001% do the brainwork. They want to force us back into manufacturing. And the 1% want to buy and sell our manual labor as stocks. It’s greed and power and stupidity.
Exactly, & you have idiots buying it hook, line, & sinker. The economy based off manufacturing was decades ago, why do people think we have things like the Rust Belt?
The manufacturings gone & long term, we’re better off focusing on higher level jobs that pay more money, not toiling in manual labor
Well, I'm proof there's upward mobility. I started off in manufacturing $9/hr, now I'm making close to 6-figures. Y'all are dooming abt stuff that 1) hasn't happened yet and 2) manufacturing brings jobs to large populations. Not all these little startups and other 5 minute pump and dump companies
No, he says the screwinh is going to be automated in this interview. Then he says HS graduates will be making the "high tech" to build the automated machines and the HVAC in the factories. It makes no sense.
One idea is that the human labor that's required to enable LLMs will only require high school equivalent education. It's a nonsensical idea cooked up by people who understand nothing about either LLMs or education, but it's a popular nonsense idea.
Also, his grandkids would never call Apple to complain about not receiving paychecks. Just like his mother-in-law, they know that getting paid is a blessing and anyone who wants money too badly is a fraudster.
This is all one big grift and con. the only thing these assholes know how to screw is people. They have zero integrity, zero moral compass, and the American people are going to kick their asses.
What about people who need a job, but don't have a lot of skills? Domestic manufacturing is not a bad thing. Levying idiotic tariffs isn't the best route to it, but that's another question.
moot point bc the administration admits new manufacturing will be mostly robots. They aren't planning on paying much for any job that would somehow result. We know this bc they hate unions, they want kids to work, and they are currently impoverishing old people. So 2 bucks an hr to screw in screws.
I watched this & thought what he was saying is ppl will be employed to build factories (HVAC, etc) bc so many will be built here to manufacture iPhone, using robotics, not that we will be screwing together iPhones. (Will be repairing them) He believes construction will be huge. But for how long?
So some iphones get made in america while they keep making iphones overseas to be able to compete with other models not made in the US. Americans will either have a huge drop in wages or pay triple for the iphone while the rest of the world pays way less.
Yep. And no one has said who would do all this work. So many people are retiring there are not enough people to replace them at their jobs, there’s a mass deportation shrinking the labor pool further and now these huge plants are going to magically appear and need millions of people to work there.
Citizens United. The fixing of the Supreme Court. Decades old precedents overturned. Absolute immunity for a president. The writing has been on the wall with more writing added for a long time. No one wanted to see it.
And we’ve learned from the documentary “13th,” that the items made in the prisons get to slap on the patriotic (/s) “Made in America” label to boost their image & sales 😖
No need for immigrants or migrants, it'll be Work Houses for the Poor. Debtors prisons. Can't pay your Visa, it's making iPhones for you. Read up on your future in any Dickens novel.
Still need to also fill in for the harvesters and cleaners and all the other jobs immigrants take to establish themselves in the country…. Definitely explains why they want all the babies.
Well that, and they want to bring back the lebensborn program from the 1940s. They are serious about the "great replacement theory". They are terrified of being outnumbered, so they want more white babies. They want to replace POC with white people, systemically. It's so gross.
This will be done by the 9 year olds when child labor laws country wide are rolled back. The little kids won’t have to bend over so far in the fields; it’s perfect! 🙄
Like the WI FoxConn failure? 13,000+ jobs promised manufacturing monitors, with a 10 billion investment has turned into 1400 jobs/670 million investment making coffee kiosks. A million sq-ft building for manufacturing will be used for storage. Handiwork of Trump and former Governor Scott Walker.
This is what they think of you America. As they shit in gold toilets and golf at elaborate tournaments, you will be lucky enough to make Pennie’s screwing in little screws in factories until you die.
The R's and Trumps admin. honestly don't think/want anyone to retire and it is their philosophy in most everything to make it more difficult, expensive, less desirable. They don't live, see, know, work in any the environments they want for everyone else.
That was the deflection. I think what he eventually insinuated was that it would be automated, and that the only jobs would be trades people for which (as he thinks) only need a high school education.
People who voted for Trump because of tariffs thought this was the best way to keep their manufacturing jobs in the US.
They are also the same ones buying cheap Chinese goods at Costco and Target.
They can't see the contradiction and can't get up the value chain.
Exactly! So they are going to automate then shove the working wage down for college graduates like engineers- rich barons making profits off the backs of workers. All you need is a high school diploma-JFC
2.3 million HVAC techs keeping the A.I. air conditioners running, which is very important with the 75* minimum temps throughout the nation, due to all the lack of environmental controls.
He didn’t expect us to notice that it would only be smart people who would be employed in his vision. That’s why his teammates are cutting the safety nets. They want the stupid people to die. No vax. No good weather prognostication. No safety regulations. No safe food. No good air. Pay or die!!!
Note how he said humans. Not adults. Not workers. Humans. This could include but is not limited to: children, prisoners, slaves, immigrants, anyone the fuck they want
that's what Trump is bringing to America.
Soon, we will live in an economy where we have to perform manual labor for 10 cents an hour, just like China.
The Walmart model? Destroying the "local" (local being the US) economy so people are forced to work a shitty jobs for a shitty salary at walmart. The shitty job being in this case Elon (or any other of the 13 billionaires) screw factory.
He is regurgitating terms he heard in Econ 101...the factors of production-natural resources, human resources and capital resources. I think that's th3 extent of his knowledge of economics.
I always wanted my children to aspire to be screwers of little screws in an iPhone factory. Cue Pink Floyd…we don’t need no education…just tiny hands to handle those little screws.
So Lutnick wants Americans to be slave labor making iPhones for the rest of the world but not being able to afford them themselves at the high cost they are sold at, while living in shanty towns that surround their billionaire owned manufacturing plant, just like the old days of serfdom.
But then the rest of the world won't buy iPhones even if we could afford them because we won't want to support the US. South Korea & China make better ones anyway.
He changed from robots doing the work to high school grads doing it. The bigger questions are, "When?"Shouldn't this have been implemented before the economy tanked? What's the f'ing plan?"
All talk at this point but the intention appears to be to make the US self sufficient to prepare for war (Greenland?). Seems like a far-fetched fantasy with these fools in charge.
Yeah, that’s exactly what he wants. Boy, oh boy I don’t have to worry about sending my grandkids to college. You’re screwed, I’m screwed, we’re all screwed. I think I just came up with my protest sign for the 19th.
Please be reasonable to Apple. The company has maintained its diversity policies. It employs people all over the world and respects your privacy in so far as the law will let it!
A P.S. on that. After the fall of the USSR, my cousin continued to work as a bookkeeper, now at a florist. It was cheaper than buying a PC and accounting program.
If it were more cost effective/less prone to scratching iPhones to screw in tiny screws with robots, Apple would do that.
The next move will be to issue Apple script. To be used to pay for your apple apartment, your apple bus ticket, your apple lunch, your apple work snack....
And you won’t be able to export those expensive iPhones because the rest of the world will buy the cheaper made in Asia ones. Lunch is an idiot, and he thinks USians are idiots too.
This is how I know he's lying. He's not an idiot. He doesn't believe that this is going to happen. Everything is being done for a very specific reason and it sure is fuck isn't about resurrecting the manufacturing sector
I don’t think any parts of the iPhone are made in America. Even the design IP were transferred to Ireland. As a result, the iPhone will cost half the price in other countries compared to what Americans pay for a product that was originally created in America. Can anyone be more foolish than that?
Well Lurch moments of Lutnick
How’s their devaluing stock option card w/DJT in spinning his record setting to be tariff in tuning up an economy in their way as the way
The Nixon Historian Timothy Naftali really pointed out DJ spinner backed in his double down pull himself across finish line corner
It helps if you think of auto correct as a tiny little elf who lives inside your phone: He’s trying very hard to be helpful, but he is, in fact, rather drunk!
I’ve sold apples to three Hutterites colonies , their philosophy is about rituals. Farming & drudgery . Let me tell you it’s not a fresh love to be enthused . Keep everyone tired .
That would be a good topic here to talk about . Still have this same way of thinking Heritage Foundation wants for all
Not at all actually, this is a misleading post. He says "it's gonna be automated" right after and then goes on about how it will help produce jobs because tradespeople will have to fix the machines.
Ivy League educated elitist (yes, I'm assuming) telling us that high school educated Americans screwing screws into I-phones, is going to make America great again. Seriously.
Who is going to buy the phones?! No one will buy a phone made in the USA, and Americans will not be able to afford them. Republicans are so dumb! Apple pays Chinese workers the equivalent of $2.88 per hour. Why would Apple come to the US? No one will work for $2.88 an hour.
He’s proposing child labor. I guess that’s the reason for lowering the child working age and hours. I wonder how many parents will allow their children to become a part of childhood labor?
Since all the immigrants are being deported, where are all these workers that will work for poverty wages coming from? If he thinks a bunch of Americans are going to stand in line to get these jobs. He’s out of his damn mind.
They can’t “breed” more workers so they are making it hard to retire so the aging people can’t leave the workforce, and making education harder to get and afford so they can CREATE a workforce. And his tariffs will tank the economy, making more poor people who ARE willing to work for poverty wages.
The plan is to automate. Install robots and they won’t have to pay “spoiled, ungrateful Americans not willing to work for $3/hr”. They haven’t figured who will be buying these high priced robot made products that most Americans won’t be able to afford and other countries will refuse to import.
There is a method to their madness. Trump told the blacks, immigrants are taking your jobs and they are going after DEI because they think that's the only way blacks can get a job. They are going after education and affirmation action. Red states are changing child labor laws.
He doesn't mean the average Joe will be doing that work. It's the people they're currently putting in prisons and detention facilities on the false claim they're 'illegals'. Nothing like a little good old slave labour! 😕
And the physically disabled, and the elderly, and anyone who speaks out, etc...
And they'll be lucky if they even get fed properly from what I've read from people who were able to get out of those facilities. Nightmare scenario unrolling in front of our eyes.
Except that these low paying jobs won’t exist because the oligarchs are pushing for automation so they won’t have to pay “spoiled Americans” who just want living wages.
A great many Americans work for poverty wages NOW. The idea is that we won't have a choice. And we won't. Americans WILL work for poverty wages if those are the only jobs available..
What a dumbass. He and his ilk really do see regular Americans just as livestock they can move around like game pieces. They're gonna be super shocked to learn we all have free will and don't want to go back to the kind of shitty world they envision.
Neofeudalism is knocking on our door. Want food? Serve the rich. Housing? Serve the rich. Rich fighting each other? Go die for the rich. Want to go elsewhere? Too bad for you. Nobles and serfs.
Of course Apple won’t move production to the US because it will adversely affect their profitability. Why doesn’t this clown go back to running boiler rooms or whatever it is he does. Idiot.
The main iPhone production is still at Foxconn in China and now expanding to India. The Vietnam plant specializes in accessories and wearables and just recently producing Macbooks
To be spent at the tr*mpstore for tr*mp goods like tr*mp basketball shoes, tr*mp t-shirts, and tr*mp flags.

If Lone Skum keeps to his track record, though, he won’t get to Mars until someone else does first and actually makes the planet habitable. Then Lone Skum can swoop in, claim he founded the planet and rename it something unpronounceable.
nazi germany worked [& almost succeeded] 2 rid itself of the immigrants it hated [Jews], then destroyed its education institutions & taught its Youth only nazi dictates [2 make them mindless fodder 4 the Reich]
Lots of good skilled labor jobs and not enough ppl to do them. But they can't sell tariffs without inventing a new gold rush of amazing jobs. Just ain't gonna happen
Exactly- they’re not being filled because education has been destroyed in many states. I live in Indiana. I was talking to an IBEW union trainer. He said they’re having problems filling apprenticeships jobs because young kids can’t pass the entrance exam. He said it basically 9th grade math
There's a problem - it seems that many young people have no ambition. I don't know the cause, maybe numerous factors, but this needs to be addressed. Education is certainly a problem. Why are kids not doing well in school or not interested in school - or leaning for that matter. Be curious and learn
It’s parents. Republicans have created an enemy in teachers. This is a huge percentage of society who believe this. So it’s not a surprise this mindset get to kids. If you think someone is trying to indoctrinate you you’re natural instincts are to resist
Yep, good point. An appreciation for learning begins at home. If you don't value education, you won't want embrace it. But how do ppl think they will make their way through the world as adults? Not everyone will be an influencer, podcaster or MMA fighter
I'm no mental or medical health professional, but when I see Nutlick speak, I start to wonder about the connection between excessive hand flapping and nonsense spewing from the mouth.
Unless they build plants in FL. Then school kids can work nights. FL is not entertaining bills to not pay children minimum wage - $7.25. Florida, we're not happy till you're not happy.
Of course you did.
I try to limit my policing to multiple offenders, like spelling and grammar errors combined with maga stupidity. All others get a pass.
Yes that's the problem. The reason the jobs were outsourced to China in the first place is because companies in the U.S. (and Europe) didn't want to pay a living wage for those jobs.
Labor cost aside, does the USA have the sheer capacity of labor to produce everything we consume? The facility in China that produces Apple products employs something like 100,000 workers in a single factory!
You're right it likely does not have it or plant/capacity. It might be that the U.S. has been importing too many finished products (too much consumption of inessentials), but of course that's a different question.
Yes, because the services and high tech economy in the USA produces excess wealth. What can the USA export to Vietnam, for example, that they need or can afford?
Lies!! Lies!! Lies!! 🤥
Elon is about to roll out thousands of Humanoid Robots to fill these jobs!
Humans complain, get sick, need time off, expect raises, etc….
His humanoid robots were remotely controlled by humans at his last presentation.
Thing about robots is they're expensive, need maintenance and will need their batteries replaced every year or so. Plus they'll come with a monthly fee where they can jack up the fee whenever they like.
Curious… If they’re too slow for labor or factory work why is Musk planning to create at least 5,000 (up to 12,000) Humanoids just this year?
He envisions 10M in the future.
I don't think he knows that a lot of these great trades people actually do go back to school to learn their craft. We just don't get degrees out of our 4+ years of school and work experience as apprentices. Only because we don't take a reading or writing class.
Correct. You don’t just graduate from high school and become a pro HVAC tech. The infrastructure for the manufacturing sites he refs doesn’t exist today. A company must invest in that infra, build it and employ it. That’s years away. If at all. Reinventing a system that exists overseas, by design.
His name should be Lunatick, not Lutnick. So this is the method to their madness. Make us all so broke we'll work, out of desperation, for 5 cents a day like in China. Good luck with that you P0S.

And the stuff about iPhones, could this guy be any more uninformed about that industry.
Excited for my iPhone 17’s $3000 price tho.
Meanwhile everyone in tech space I know can't find any local or US software engineers, etc, with big $ waiting for them.

What the people who are not very good at math don't get is that such factories run headlines today that say "expanding by 100,000 square feet, will add 50 jobs."
This isn't 1870 when 5M sq ft meant 20k jobs.
My conversations have become very dark. And angry 😠
I want better for my children.... so should they! MONSTERS!

“I want to put screws in iPhones!”
If they are then nobody can afford the products
Isn't that ironic.
Its actually 30 grand.
How's Russians and Hungarians doing?
Totally not great!
Collapse the country like an old pack of cards and have masses willing to do it to survive on a crust of bread - even take their children out of school to contribute to family income
Mass repossessions reset the housing crisis
They are such silly boys
No workers = loss of crops
Tariffs = lost exports
Extreme weather & NO FED CROP INSURANCE!!
Global adversaries & opportunists will add to the pandemonium
Mush still has massive $$$ & what’s to do with it? Become the biggest private land owner in the US.
You might want to check in with this chap @jonrademacher.bsky.social

Nationwide hits to home values; foreclosures etc
The private sector cannot absorb this unexpected glut of unemployed.
The end game is a total reset not soft landing
Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, line right UP. You wanted these men, time to pay your (devil, Caesar) King his dues.
Like the companies did back in the 1890's before Theodore Roosevelt forced them to start paying workers with real money.
No one said you would be able to buy em
He thinks we will believe this utter BS
Not 🚫
The plants are automated
That's not happening
MTG, Margarine Traitor Greede, is running against US Senate Democrat, Jon Ossoff, and we can't lose.
I was expecting mercy when there won't be any.
I’ve never understood why we would get jobs to come to America when we pay for the tariff. What does the company lose out on?
HUGE PROBLEM, even with tariffs it will still cost far more to make iphones here.
So they will just keep them there and pay the tariffs.
Tariffs woukd proabbly have to go up to 300 percent or so to even start to have an impact.
#Tarriffs
They think we're STUPID!
"Oh look kids that's where Wall St used to be".
And Americans waiting tables, carrying bags & cleaning hotel rooms for rich Asians & Europeans.
I see people who legitimately made a mistake and end up in leg chains?
No thanks!
I doubt this is systematic. It’s just that Trump and all his people enable the worst people.
It’s likely more of a ‘collective understanding’ that they can get away with a lot more and so their worst urges and sentiments, that they mostly kept tamped down, can surface.
we can't even build a train or maintain roads 🫠
He, and they, didn't know he was president of the Virgin Islands. And all the other ignorant arrogant gaffs he makes on the world stage.

Then after graduation he randomly bumped into a very rich guy, Mr Cantor of Cantor Fitzgerald, who took him and sponsored his entire career up to this.
Its just random luck all the way.

That video was pretty Orwellian but it does help me understand why some people might support tariffs: basically they are effective liars and without fact checking it might "make sense" to some people even though it's wrong
Reshoring depends on heavy automation and a much smaller number of skilled jobs replacing many unskilled jobs.
It would take DECADES, if ever, to bring manufacturing back AND IT WOULD RAISE COSTS!!!
Us: "The cost of labor would rise 100x"
Repugs: "End public schools and lower the child labor age!"
That is why they're gutting the dept of ed, trying to stop children from reading, keeping them unhealthy and unfed getting children ready to put those iPhones together.
It's the implementation that is the tough part.
It does not make financial sense. 🤷♀️
Trump is just a malevolent old man who doesn’t understand the modern world. He still lives in the era of sweatshops and fossil fuels.
Speaking with a forked tongue, for sure.
Bonus question, how long before most tradecrafts become obsolete due to automation?
LUTNICK "Well, remember the army of millions & millions of human beings screwing in little screws to make iPhones. That kind of thing is gonna come to America, it's gonna be automated...the trade craft of America is gonna fix them."
WE'RE, um Screwed
Get off FB and Instagram
But only tiny screws.
Hey, is this an ummm admission by GOP?
There is no incentive for the business class to build these automated factories.
Oh, to be born in the "Golden Age" where I could just screw for the rest of my life.
But he knows exactly what he’s doing, they all do.
No reality exists where manufacturing jobs are coming back/wanted. You wanna work 8+ hrs on your feet all day?
But please lecture us more, it’s obvious YOU have never done hard labor by that comment. 🤦♂️
Manufacturing is an entry level job that opens tremendous doors for upward mobility.
Nobody with half a brain would want to break their body down working manual labor, when you can simply pursue an education, & make many times what the cap is in manual labor jobs.
You’re either clueless or willingly ignorant
The manufacturings gone & long term, we’re better off focusing on higher level jobs that pay more money, not toiling in manual labor
Don’t need no workers if it’s gonna be automated 🙈
AI will oversee workers
"Mr Lutnick. Do you want one of those jobs for your kids, grandkids, or yourself? If not, then why not?"
It’s gonna be the biggest job growth in America….for robots

Oh wait. They do?
Maybe that's why apple margin is north of 60%
They are also the same ones buying cheap Chinese goods at Costco and Target.
They can't see the contradiction and can't get up the value chain.
Much more impressive than any individual consumer product with a fanclub.
Soon, we will live in an economy where we have to perform manual labor for 10 cents an hour, just like China.
Their fingers polish the inside of shell metal casings. How else am I to polish the inside of a 45 millimeter shell casing?
Who vote for that???
So Americans will we willing to work for a couple $ per hour.. who do they think will be able to buy food, clothing, homes, cars…? So freaking stupid!
If it were more cost effective/less prone to scratching iPhones to screw in tiny screws with robots, Apple would do that.
GDP will drop proportionally.
Great plan to turn a world leader into a 3rd world country. And then call it the "Golden Age".

Is Licknuts saying we're gonna have to throw millions out of work so they have no choice but to work in the factories?
How the fuck will they be able to afford their current rent and mortgages on those wages?
Preferential immigration and a shot at buying US citizenship after 15 yrs in the factories.
And you get room and board in the work camp next door.
Which, along with medical insurance, costs you 110% of your daily pay.

Not that even that will happen since it's well known that Americans actually expect a decent wage
