Americans are losing the right to exercise state power to restrict the fundamental human rights of a tiny minority of marginalized people without being criticized for that online, and Jeremy Fucking Peters is on it.

You might be joking, but this would actually be a fantastic app.
I've always thought it would be great if you could punch in specific authors/writers/columnists/commentators into an app and then the app stops you from ever seeing their content, no matter what news site/social media youre on
It never makes the NYT for some reason but some things that anti-trans activists have done recently include:
- bomb threats against children’s hospitals and clinics that offer gender affirming care
- targeted campaigns to get trans and nb teachers fired
- harassing gnc children at sports games
Those things don't directly affect people like Jeremy Peters. What affects him is a pseudonymous person online calling him something he takes umbrage over.
In UK they threatened social workers attempting to have a child protection conference. I’ve personally witnessed them interfering with an academic autism conference on sexuality and screaming in the faces of vulnerable delegated. Because they don’t care about children or autistic adults
One of these is from an outlet that is not the NYT, one is about threats against synagogues not hospitals and the only relevant one is from two years ago.
Something else the NYT can report on: many therapists specialized in trans kids in my network are pre-emptively going into hiding and cutting services, due to Trump's election and threats from the right. I'm living in an extremely safe part of the country.
If somebody has "written about the evolution of the LGBTQ movement for over a decade" and they missed all that, they should consider themselves lucky to only receive criticism, because they deserve to be blackballed from anything more serious than PennySaver
I wonder if will finally see a ton of closet conservatives come out, for better or for worse. They clearly hate the gaudiness of MAGA but love the power structure.
So much of the anti woke left/center consists of these people but they find Trump too gauche.

Reagan eliminated the Fairness Doctrine
Amazing how after using their energy responding to anti trans journalists’ bad faith articles politely and with evidence for several years, and they keep at it, label you an “activist”, twist your quotes, help get nasty laws passed, send troll brigades at you, trans people got testy. uncivil jerks!
Anti-trans activist Elon Musk, whose politics Peters finds elusive, has declared his own daughter “dead” bc she’s trans.
By comparison, the harsh trans activists are chastised by Peters for protesting (with strong language!) against: a US congressman, a billionaire author, and the White House.
Yeah, my friend's kid was at Boston Children's Hospital having surgery after a bad accident. Because of those bomb threats, non-necessary people were evacuated or kept out. That meant parents. Parents couldn't hang out with their hospitalized kids bc of these monsters.
I’ve been in the hospital for multi-night stays multiple times. One when I was 5, another when I was 7, and another when I was 15. I cannot imagine my parents not being allowed to stay by my side during that. wtf. That’s absolutely heartbreaking and horrifying.
But yk the people sending bomb threats say they’re “protecting kids from indoctrination” or whatever. Yeah, they definitely care about the wellbeing of kids. Totally. (Sarcasm)
Indeed, "being criticized" is nearly a dictionary definition of "getting on someone's wrong side."
But maybe this guy has long felt on the "wrong side" of the trans party 🎊, standing out in the cold, just now realizing he's been kept out by the activist trickery of flipping the push/pull door sign.
If gender nonconforming children are also being targeted, then I think that's certainly justification for gender nonconforming people to finally have place in the LGBTQ community again.
"To tell a marginalized and vulnerable people that I don't believe they have a right to exist is to endure the unspeakable horror of being disagreed" what a fucking little shithead
Isn't Jeremy Peters the guy who went to Martha's Vineyard to do the sympathetic article on Dershowitz about how Dershowitz was being treated unfairly by folks there?
If they're such a tiny minority, what kind of fundamental human rights are they being restricted from? Not trans rights, human rights. You didn't say trans rights, you just said human rights. Humans are humans. Trans and cis and etc are exactly the same. Right? Human rights are human rights. No?
I don't get it. Yes, voicing unpopular opinions will almost always result in pushback. This is not exclusive to trans issues. Does all this come as a surprise to Peters here? Am I supposed to be concerned for someone on the receiving end of "unsparing criticism?"
MSNBC happened to be on my TV when I turned it on several minutes ago and this tool was there literally saying that the reason trans folks are losing rights is because of their activism. Yes, of course, that's it, not the extreme transphobia from the right that has caused them to become activists.
I cancelled my NYT subscription (including games!) in 2023 over their anti-trans coverage. Haven't looked back. And https://wordly.org is free to play!
"People Who Don't Like the Criticisms I Professionally Make of Them Don't Like Me on a Personal Level, Either, and Sometimes Criticize Me Back, What's Up with That?", by Jeremy Peters, middle-aged titty-baby and isolated hermit since birth.
How many dead Americans is ok?
How many Americans is it ok for the state to take rights from?
If the number higher than ZERO...
Better hope others don't decide your group is the bad one!
Fascists and their enablers have feelings too, think of how they must feel when they're criticized for their scapegoating of innocent people to demonstrate the intimidation and oppression fascism requires for its minority control by concentrated capital.
"Jeremy is a little freak who's been publicly obsessed with things that don't effect him in any way for over a decade, and we publish his feckless diatribes."
"I am not inherently against trans rights, but the barista at Starbucks who I think may have been trans? maybe? spelled my name wrong, and it's that kind of rude dismissal that has moved me to say that trans people should be shot."
As a Woman (Trans) I despair at the seeming dilution of my community, 24 years since transition, I've seen it go from M2F & F2M to what seems like every variety of gender & sexuality variance imaginable (and some beyond), however, I've always said that those who feel they have the least voice...
Will, inevitably, shout the loudest... My personal perspective being, that I transitioned to be a woman, to integrate in female society, not to be a Transgender person, and yes I've been directly called a traitor to my community...
Yeah after they lost radical to the ninja turtles (I see the republicans have been trying to bring it back though) there aren't many words they can get away with adding whole silent adjectives to.
Uh yeah dude, to treat people like shit just for who they are will in fact get you on the wrong side of decent people and will rightfully lead to unsparing criticism.
How someone can write about the LGBTQ+ “movement” for more than a decade and still have no clue is honestly an impressive accomplishment in obstinance. You’d think some empathy and knowledge would at least accidentally rub off on him.
Unsparing criticism got you down? Try waking up everyday as a trans teenager and being bombarded with news about how you are simultaneously responsible for a fascist getting elected and also not EVEN ALLOWED TO EXIST.
"has written about the evolution of the L.G.B.T.Q. movement for more than a decade"=="has been a willing shepherd of the bathroom banners since the very first one in 2014"
Fun because a look at his NYT articles reveals fairly quickly that he hasn’t been doing that. The last two years, at least, show that occasionally he will write about an LGBT cultural figure (author, etc.), and slightly more often about liberal culture war. Mostly it’s general politics and sport!
Trans people are being delegitimized and dehumanized left and right, their rights to be themselves and receive proper healthcare and to not be fired or evicted for no good reason are being stripped away, and folks, it’s real bad.
… If they say mean words about the people responsible, that is.
Is there a group of people in the world where if you "get on the wrong side of them" they won't criticize you? How are you getting on the wrong side of them, Jeremy?
Problem is there are two parts to the transgender issue. One focuses on drag queens and people choosing how they live in their bodies.
Which detracts from the issue that there is a whole population of rich men traveling to Asian islands and grooming little boys into sex objects. They nasty.
A lot of NYT, Atlantic writers treat trans-issues like a fad. A thing that will blow over soon. Like it's not a real issue to them, but they must humor it. And so they're aware of the salient points, but humanizing & incorporating the views to make shit better for all is a real hurdle for them.
Imagine working hard (I mean, I’m assuming) all your life to rise up through the ranks of national journalism so you can show bigger and bigger audiences just how thin your skin is.
One reason I rarely watch MSNBC (except for Maddow, Lawrence and Deadline WH) is because they frequently put dipshits like Jeremy Peters on the air as “contributors.” The man is an idiot.
Yeh, Jeremy W. Peters is being a classic pseudo-intellectual, trying to downplay bigots. There's more truth in this thread than this article, with a title that already shows how poor it is! The New York Times is really going downhill in allowing this stuff sneering at those supporting trans rights.
Now if they were calling you a “slanty-eyed foreigner”you would be as angry as any transgender. Slander is slander. Y’all just want to find a vulnerable group to reject and oppress. People like to do that, why I don’t know, but maybe you have answers.
Hey quick question, why'd you feel the need to throw a bunch of racism into a comment on a totally unrelated topic? And as a follow-up question, fuck you.
This kind of brave truth telling will save the Union and the West!
Following this our other 1st amendment rights will be returned to us. Read about it in my new opinion piece for the NYT "Those bald kids in the hospital are pretty funny looking and I'm tired of holding in my laughter."
Guys like Peters are trying their hardest to import British-style transphobia into American politics. He even pulls the “LGB alliance” nonsense by saying that the unity and strength offered by an LGBTQ coalition is a liability. All while the Sarah McBride stuff is going on. Despicable.
What, exactly, would be the counterargument to "transgender people are human beings and, as such, deserve human rights"? And, furthermore, what would the compromise look like?
Look for these other classic Jeremy Peters articles: “Civil Rights? What for, you’re black” and “Gay is a choice, like poverty” or this great one “Cancer is your fault.”
There are organized information networks working openly as dispatchers for stochastic terrorists, targeting anyone trans or trans-adjacent (e.g., drag shows), but don't worry about that: we need to focus on how trans activists can take a shitty attitude sometimes.
"An activist called me a bigot for saying biological males shouldn't play girls' sports, is the trans community is unwilling to face--"
"Sorry, I have to run. There was another bomb threat against my kid's school. His math teacher has wide shoulders so transvestigators are trying to get her killed."
He did say "often," so at least some of the time the criticism is sparing or something less. I hope that the criticism reaches total and complete unsparing--merciless, severe, given freely and generously. Maybe then he'll evolve to the non shitty opinion.
His description seems mainly annoyed at how these pesky transgender activists won't stop whining about wanting to have equal rights. What a fucking asshole he is.
"Jeremy Peters has written about the evolution of the LGBTQ movement for more than a decade" is a pretty nifty way to contextualize his work to the casual reader!
You know what, he's absolutely correct. I'm extremely pro-bullying and if you're a shitass to the trans community, I'm gonna mock you until one of us dies.
If I remember correctly I heard this same type of statement by some anal retentive white guy in 1975. Not trans people's fault these halfwits were born in the shallow end of the gene pool.
So that byline seems like it’s deliberately misleading, but maybe I’ve missed out on Peters’ LGBT coverage in favor of his usual beat of quoting GOP activists as random vox pops. So I checked his written in the first person bio:
Thin skinned fucking losers, the lot of them. "Why can't I advocate murder or murder adjacent policies towards LGBTQ+ people without facing criticism? I'm just asking questions! Trying to spark thoughtful debate on whether or not some people should exist!"
every single comment is hateful fox news tier transphobic garbage and the author is engaging with them as if they're good faith. I fucking hate the nytimes.

as a rule, anytime someone says "the NYT never carries this story" if is false, and it is easy to show it is false with a few seconds on google
There “pro trans activists”- you know, like healthcare workers and human beings who are trans.
And then there are “concerned logical citizens” like myself and a concerned parent who happens to be webmaster of https://www.2biogenders.org

How tragic.

Cry harder.
Like. Yeah? Yeah. The calculus is not that goddamn hard: trans people gonna criticize transphobes.
I wonder how the “wrong side” of trans issues feels for the trannies?
… If they say mean words about the people responsible, that is.
Which detracts from the issue that there is a whole population of rich men traveling to Asian islands and grooming little boys into sex objects. They nasty.

So unfair.

It clearly shows his middle initial is W., meaning it cannot be short for Fucking.
It may in fact stand for Wankerdoodiehead.
like, oh no you voiced an opinion on the internet and someone criticized it!! unsparingly!!!
😂😂😂
NOT *CRITICISM*
Meanwhile trans women are barred from using the public bathrooms in the NATIONAL CAPITOL BUILDING.
Hmm. I see a disparity here.
What a whiny little bitch.
What did you say to get on their bad side, Jeremy?
HOW DID YOU GET ON THEIR BAD SIDE???
