I have just, seriously, heard Nick Robinson on Radio 4 ask if Germany can seriously call itself a democracy if the CDU/CSU continue to refuse to include the AFD from consideration for power.

And this approach invariably boosts right-wing BS.
I remember him continuing to suport Farage’s talking points for years claiming there are “legitimate concerns around immigration”, but never going to explain one single such “concern” in detail.
I don’t trust him.

That's what happened in America, this is what is happening in Europe too.
I'm mixed race, I'm not even racist about this, I just want our societies to not become fascistic
The underlining problem is that the rich are ruining society
I think you, Colin, and I ALL AGREE that far right are trying to *make* problems that they can exploit politically - this is absolutely the big worry!
I think we're on the same side, in wanting to prevent them doing that?
1/2
If current policies are perfect then 2x on getting electorate to agree.
Perhaps people have had past conversations about this with others who were insincerely 'jUst aSking qUestions', and assume anyone concerned must also be insincere 🤷)
If moderate politicians shirk from a highly-charged part of life. Either by making the positive case or stopping abuse then they will be leaving it to the demagogues to set the mood.
As yucky as I find it, some patriotism is vital #coolbritannia
Stop believing GBNews & the liar Fraage, and understand that you've been drip fed nonsense by people who stand to profit from your stupidity.
But also lack of research by many 🇬🇧 journos. NR poss. unaware that AfD much further right than UKIP, too extreme for Le Pen etc.
Most seem to know much less about eg 🇩🇪/🇫🇷 pol than 🇺🇸 pol. Which, rn, is irresponsible.
They have had made their contribution to the dire situation Europe is in right now. No warnings heeded.

Low quality trashy idiot is what he is.
Are you sure, because I'm not sure how an AfD supporter would have phrased if differently.
If you ask ignorant questions which misrepresentation democracy and favour the AfD. You are supporting them.
If reached the point of disgust towards most BBC Political Journalists.
They're dross.
As usual.
I've been a supporter of Radio 4 for many years, but really struggling with the lack of balance.
Remind me, how many right wing affiliations does Robinson have?
No!
She greased the DUP in Northern Ireland. People need to censure lies, but the BBC don't do that these days.
(They had a higher share of the vote than AfD.)
Perhaps a journalist should ask him.
A CDU-AfD coalition would legitimize and empower fascists like how the GOP has accommodated & emboldened the far-Reich here in America.
Perhaps…
Nick, don't be thick.
This is how R4 brings fascists to the breakfast table: both-sidesing, but only on rails set by the British establishment
Did the Tories 'refuse to include' Labour in their consideration for power?
Does that mean the UK hasn't been able to call itself democratic since?
The DDR: “yes Nick. It’s called the party list system. Much democracy”.
And then they became so big they could no longer be kept out.
The next 3 biggest parties wouldn't get a majority.
So now the Netherlands has a right wing government.

He is also communicating in Germany on a fascist supporting social media.
Robinson is doing his job - to challenge politicians and to put to them questions which the public might the thinking. Some will undoubtedly believe the point you raise.
To isolate the question is unhelpful if not misleading.
A similar percentage support the Farage Party. 🤦
Primarily because of journalists like Robinson.
From an early age at University, and supported now by Robbie Gibb and Davie … both Tory HQ plants.
Why doesn’t Keir get them out?
Did they get any influence on what happened next?
No they didn’t.
If AFD started explicitly calling for the forced sterilisation of anyone not white, would THEN it be ok to shut them out?
If so, then who is to say that now is not the time to say “no, never again”.
Every party ran on a platform of not collaborating formally with AfD. If people want an AfD government they can vote for it.
I think he was deliberately making a pro AfD point.
Not sure why.
(PS the public pay him £350,000 a year. )
(I know, I call it Twitter because it enrages the Muskrat.)
34% with 60% turnout vs 29% with 80% turnout...
But when they get 20% of the votes you can't ignore them. Telling 1 in 5 voters that they are wrong is not how democracy works. It's also not how you reduce support for far right. You need to offer a better alternative.
Yes, you can tell them _you think_ they are wrong.
But you can't say to 20% of the electorate that their opinion is invalid. You can't say "you can vote for party X, but they will never win, even if they win". That is not democracy.
As do minority parties here in the UK.
Also another reminder that the UK media is so shockingly bad at reporting on, and understanding, European politics. The exceptionalism is unreal.
Time for a purge of the far right from the state broadcaster.
etc, etc, etc
Dangerous times here in Germany.
So sad.
Only kidding, of course he didn't.
Decades of right wing commentators have brought us to this shitty 'both side-ism'
80% vs 20% You must not exclude the 20%
52% vs 48% it’s a clear mandate for the victor and they will set the direction for the country
He is thrash.
