Itβs so cool that cities are like βpweeease only turn your AC on if youβre actively dying and donβt go below 79 π₯Ίπ€π»πβ while the AI nobody asked for is slurping up the power grid to make 1 image of a girl with 5 tits

My local for-profit power co. recently went to hourly rates. Price for power rising and falling based on time of day.
Their suggestion for saving $$ on A/C during peak times, set thermostat to colder temps before 6pm, turn it off until after 10pm. Sure, let's sweat just sitting during family time.
i would care but im on my way to catch a private jet to fly to a much deserved golf destination cruise vacation on a super-mega-yacht (more like supreme gay chat lol amirite folks)
Remember, people, go to a human artist for your five-titted-woman artwork needs. Not only will your commission boost the economy, but you'll also be saving the environment.
(Also, most humans are able to count to five consistently, a thing AI is famous for not doing. Don't be shorted a boob.)
Weird how eminent domain and civil forfeiture and all sort of bullshit arbitrary rules that allow the state to steal from you for any reason at all are never used to take away from facilities, organizations, and people who are genuinely, extremely destructive and harmful. π«
I mean, yeah, God knows I did. But just because an underage kid is drawing "sexy" stuff on their own, that doesn't mean they should be put into a position of providing sex material for an adult.
That's creepy at best and an actual crime at worst. Draw your own smut. Or commission an adult artist.
Similar to here in UK. Water companies fail to maintain supply lines, gov demolished half the water storage infrastructure, and they're literally pumping sewage into any body of water they can. But when summer comes along they're all "please only use water in an emergency"!
Texans love fascists so theyβll happily die with no power for AC in the summer nor heat in the winter. When they divert power to the billionaire and freeze the old people to deathβ¦democracy wins!
At least we have the bill being (just now) introduced that would make AI companies beg for permission to use people's work lest they get sued.
Still, the unregulated use of AI is actively undoing whatever progress we might have made to lessen carbon emissions.
considering both people's kinks and AI's unhelpful tendencies, 5 tits would be far too useful. I'd imagine something like five ears and half an eye or something
Generating an image takes just a few seconds on a normal consumer graphics card (a minute tops).
I get "akutyallying" wasn't your point, but people spamming chatGPT like their own brain depended on it, crypto, and of course moron CEOs wanting the latest buzzwords seemed far more compelling examples.
How about we start promoting life saving AC in a climate crisis caused by the selfishness of boomers and outright ban AI?
No one wants it or needs it, it serves no purpose whatsoever.
In the bin of history it goes.
I live in The Land of the Data Centers in Northern Virginia. Approximately 80% of the worldβs internet goes through this area. Data centers donβt create many jobs so the only real advantage of this for the locals is that we almost never lose power due to the grid being moved underground.
I too find gifs annoying but this is a comical example of shifting expectations and blame to the individual consumer when corporations are responsible for way WAY more of the data center issue. Also lol at uploading, storing, and serving a youtube video to say it
Same energy as those self-congratulating moralizing liberal pitstains who whinge on about turning your lights off when you leave a room while Taylor Swift's private jet burns more carbon in three hours than my house in a whole year.
Letβs stop all commitments to conservation until TS starts riding a bike and swim across the ocean. Waiting for another comment how I should log off, stop using internet and live in the cave while you take pleasure in responding with gifs.
good thing we have spent the energy to encode, store, and serve a 1080p H.264/VP8 video stream with a 160Kbps AAC/Opus audio stream to hundreds if not thousands of users who all need to decode the streams locally
otherwise, we might not know to avoid using 320Γ240-pixel GIFs in our HTML-only sites
The analogue of GIFs to AI shit in terms of cutting them out is like...when you're trying to clear space on your hard drive and you're comparing .txt files to installed programs and videos
It's so inconsequential as to be basically irrelevant
What do you mean large image size? All of the gifs I have saved on my computer are under 3mb in size whereas any full illustration I post online as an artist tend to be PNG files that range between 5 to 12mb.
GIF's are measured in Megabytes. The processing power to make a SINGLE "Ai" image is considerably higher. They are also often poorly optimized and HUGE in comparison to regular image file sizes.
The amount you use is insignificant. Even if you got a MILLION people to not use GIF's you'd be saving a few terabytes at MOST over the course of a year.
Feel free to not use them, that's your choice, but don't say, "Don't use them because it makes a difference." when it doesn't.
Can I have partial moral credit for 77Β°? I've read posts about summer & winter temp settings; I'm perfectly comfortable, but the number of 68-72Β° responses was gobsmacking. Conversely, 70Β° in the winter. 68Β° ok if you're up doing something, but I don't want 2visit many social media-ites; never >65Β°.
Naturally weβd need to give a lower priority to AC compared to chatbots. One provides comfort for millions, the other gets VC funding to make a few hundred techbros money.
He knows he gets teased and I imagine he has many secondary accounts for all the gooning... But he's dumb so I imagine he thought he WAS on his gooner act when he hit those likes
Would be a shame if someone who worked there spilled their big sugary beverages all over those fragile components... y'know since it's so hot and you can become real woozy.
they travel in private airlines packing their favourite cars and seadoos as they jet set around the world each day but us normies canβt take a carry on or move a leg when we fly
for years I've made fun of "conserve water! take short showers!" as California's response to endless drought, citizens taking the heat for hotels and agriculture using the VAST majority of what's left of our aquifer
waaaittt, you tryna tell me umbrella corporation The Wonderful Company LLC that owns Pistachios, Fiji and many other brands n things ISNT ACTUALLY WONDERFUL?! jeez whats next, Jesus isnt coming back to earth to 'rapture' all the bad 'globalists/arabs' to hell where they belong? worst day ever π±π«
I recall a claim from a climatologist in an NPR story during a drought in the '90s: 1) The SW is a desert not suitable for habitation; 2) For a brief period incl the 20thc, it had above-normal rain; 3) it was (then) reverting to its geological mean.
Here in AZ at least (72% of AZ water use is agriculture) farmers are actually incentivized to grow water intensive crops like alfalfa so they don't lose the water rights
There was a huge thing a few months ago where a Saudi company bought up a bunch of AZ farmland to grow alfalfa and ship it to Saudi Arabia for livestock feed with literally unlimited water use
The only time Iβve agreed with Dick Cheney was when he said that all those little individual acts of virtue donβt add up to shit if youβre trying to save the planet
Fairly appalled that they took a stupid walking sport that can live within the natural landscape in Scotland and went "no! The earth will bend to us!!".
We deliberately donβt water our front lawn enough, and the neighbors havenβt complained to us, but we do get a *ton* of business cards left at our door for lawn/landscaping services π
(We want to xeriscape but havenβt managed it yet)
We covered our front yard with mulch after the lawn died of thirst. It wasn't super attractive, but it kept the soil intact while we slowly added xeriscaping plants and features. I'd recommend it.
I lived out in the Mojave Desert (Ridgecrest) and the number of people living in the middle of the Desert with lawns was truly distressing. Legit water crisis, sprinklers pissing half the water into the street.
I'm guessing you didn't live under constant water emergency, where the water in your town was at risk of simply running out?
Where the basin is overdrawn by 4 times the rate of refill?
The biggest user where I lived is a military base, btw. Not agriculture.
In my hometown (Escondido) a lot of the lawns got converted to drought-resistant landscaping which does kinda kill the illusion that you arenβt in the desert but also integrates with the environment a lot better and looks less artificial
It definitely changes the character of neighborhoods, and that can be hard; but I've seen some really lovely natural landscaping! And I'd take lava rock yards over running out of water any day, really.
As someone who grew up through the late 80s-early 90s drought, some of that is drilled into my head.
Then I realize all those lovely flood irrigated orchards in the Central Valley were allowed to do so well after we'd been told conservation is our responsibility. To say nothing of W(o)nderful Co.
I haven't checked on it in a while but at some point a truly egregious % of California's water went to almond groves who's crops were mostly exported
'food grows where water flows' indeed lol
Oh itβs ongoing and getting worse. Every time I drive down into the Valley thereβs more acreage of almond orchard going in. Meanwhile the aquifer is squeezed so hard that the Valley itself is dropping by feet in places.
Some cretin can show up with his plagiarism robot and make this "better" at any time and my second draft will STILL kick his ass because my dataset has zero CSAM in it
It's like the "individual responsibility" marketing campaign that companies put out, urging to recycle where they can and "do their part", as if the same corporations weren't responsible for annual oil deluges and deforestation equivalent to the environmental impact of entire cities/states/countries

Their suggestion for saving $$ on A/C during peak times, set thermostat to colder temps before 6pm, turn it off until after 10pm. Sure, let's sweat just sitting during family time.
And now everyone in my neighborhood is nonstop running their sprinklers to cool off their kids
HOA don't pay my electric...
But they sure do pay my water bill π
(Also, most humans are able to count to five consistently, a thing AI is famous for not doing. Don't be shorted a boob.)
That's creepy at best and an actual crime at worst. Draw your own smut. Or commission an adult artist.
(and also what a waste of energy because actual reasons, wowee)
When more folks get hip to that, it may alter the flow.
Still, the unregulated use of AI is actively undoing whatever progress we might have made to lessen carbon emissions.
You can use as much electricity as you want.

...add cryptomining (and make holding crypto a felony count for each whole or fractional coin) and I'll be on board with it.
https://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.php?id=61364
Ok, all of you are right about Ai... Should never happen...
But, the fact, that crypto mining is already, since years, actively sucks 10 times more energy...
Everybody has forgotten..
And they can now suck in silence..
Please, don't forget that fast..
Log off.

Did you say "5 tits"? Link?

Not defending it. Just pointing out it's a lot of tits.
Three wasn't enough...
Helps set expectations, anyway, if kinda true.

Turf lawns need to die.
Where the basin is overdrawn by 4 times the rate of refill?

That being said Oregonβs post-timber economy started with hydro and sod, so I can agree to only flush As Needed while still suspecting the source
Then I realize all those lovely flood irrigated orchards in the Central Valley were allowed to do so well after we'd been told conservation is our responsibility. To say nothing of W(o)nderful Co.
'food grows where water flows' indeed lol
Over a foot drop in some places.
No one in Sacramento wants the heat from reworking water rights or cutting big ag off.
and I'm sure that bleak vista has only gotten worse over the years
That's not even producing the image.
