Every language "borrows" words from the other languages to which its speakers either came from or were exposed to. And yes, evolution, which we can see in action even now.
There's Spanish Spanish and Latin American Spanish, and even growing differences between different countries in this hemisphere
You aren't much of a foodie, are you? Of course you can food a food. But that doesn't mean what you think it means. To food a food means to fix it into something more palatable.
When I was learning how to speak in English , I found it to be a really dumb language to learn, with the same words spelled the same yet meaning other things & pronounced differently.
I went to Italy a few years ago. I tried learning Italian before the trip. Since I speak Spanish, I can understand some of it. However once in Italy ,I couldnβt speak anything!
The only 2 languages I speak (out of 5) that do this are French and Indonesian... coincidentally (not) of course the 3 that don't do it are Germanic languages.
The origin of the Japanese Katsu and it reception in UK made me laugh aloud. The βcutletβ was exported and re-imported as a different name. Tbf, it is now unrecognizable from the origin
I feel like Iβm missing something. Is cocaine bear a thing?
Do I want to google that? Because that is either a trash movie (ππ») or animal abuse (ππ»)
Itβs like the easiest western language to learn.
Barely any irregular verbs, no genders to worry about. Basic grammar will get you very far and most Americans canβt properly spell, so you donβt even have to worry about that.
I know, right? And all these other wordsβ¦. Resume (continue)/resume (job apps), to/two/too, Sade (pronounced sharday), spellings, pronunciationsβ¦. I agree. Wtf American English!!!

Prolly came about cuz food was always a noun, no verb form. Drink was a verb before it became a noun iirc so unless we call food "eats" more consistently unfortunately it be like that.

Depends on who's doing it; if it's just you, you eet the eten otherwise we eten the eten :D Even funnier is trying to explain the difference betweeh "de" and "het" and why nobody seems to know exactly why words use one or the other.
I might laugh if I ever hear someone say 'u eet' π I trust you know your native language, but I don't have that same confidence for most people who'll read this lol
Let's just say I may not be the most qualified in my native language, I don't really speak it anymore since I live in France, so it's mostly just a few times per year with my old man :D (also I don't understand why "u eet" would make you laugh, unless it's because it sort of sounds like yeet...)

Text: "He gave me a book to read. As I read it..."
Me: "Read #1 -> reed. Read #2 -> red."
Him: "Why do you say them differently? They're spelled the same!"
Me: "Uh... I don't know."
Him: *gives up*
