Well I know what I'm buying a few of this year to support our Japanese friends. "Every Canadian child must have a Nintendo Switch", should be Mark Carney's next policy lol
Cut off ALL taxes and ALL government subsidies. And let anybody spend all the money THAT THEY EARN, on whatever over-priced trinkets they want to. I like guns.
That idiot who want nintendo to make them in the US really think nintendo will move its entire production to the US to avoid tariffs to the US? He forget that every country on the planet will enforce tariffs on the US in retaliation. The US is a tiny market compared to the globe. If he meant to
produce them in the US for only the US market then that would be a no go. The console would be 2-3x the price because of the added cost. Nintendo can not put that cost on the entire global market, so the US would have to pay it themselves.
The place where the art is made does not ultimately matter to them , they want to see pale but tiny cartoon characters squeak at them for 20 minutes at a time .
I really feel sorry for every sane US Citizen. Not like we’re in the EU don’t have these kind of idiots but at least none of them won the head of state.
Thank you. It’s embarrassing to be an American during the best of times, let alone now. It’s nice to know some of the world still cares about the ones who tried to avoid all this the way we care about them.
THEIR. OWN. CULT. LEADER. MERCH. IS. MADE. IN. CHINA. Jesus did someone press all yalls soft spots as baby? The cognitive dissonance should be studied. Oh wait, we have no scientist.
> Manufactures in USA with USA parts
> You get a bag of sliced pepperoni because USA doesn't have the manufacturing capability for any of the necessary parts or access to most of the necessary raw materials.
A Japanese company could make things in America but do people not realize how difficult it is to start factories? Like the upstart cost is super high. Especially for things that produce tech. They're not just going to move manufacturing to the United States because 1 unstable guy put tariffs.
Paying Americans to make things here would still make products cost more as "we" won't work for $2 a day.
Unless they plan to run down American middle class so much they (we) will work in sweat shops but not be able to buy the things "we" make.
Lately I have found myself idly wishing that it was, in fact, just me losing my mind, because surely some of this is too heinous to actually be happening.
I think often of Frodo and Gandalf. "I wish it need not have happened in my time," and that gives me some hope.
Nintendo should put a 50% tariff on the new game and let the kids of America know how tariff works and why mum and dad can no longer afford it. Imagine the chaos in every household in America. The kids will be very vocal towards the parents who would have voted for the 🍊🤡
At least the dipshit in said comments got called out and insulted. That's something normal people need to do to conservatives — call them out and make them feel bad about their dumb shit.
Moving the plants to America would be a massively expensive endeavor. not to mention that the components used to make the console will still be heavily tariffed.
YIP!
Any country in a general sense should support creating more manufacturing jobs locally the economic reasons and benefits are obvious but once again this self inflicted twice over.
The U.S like other countries has been slowly outsourcing manufacturing for decades now.
No wonder your profile says .NET coder. Very fitting someone who's exclusively relied on the .net framework and languages like vb or C# would be too dense to understand how long it takes to get productions running when doing protectionism when there's 0 pre-existing production for that industry.
I go in with the full assumption that blue checkmarks will say whatever the fuck gets them réactions because that means $$ for them under Twitter's model.
Therefore, I made a point to completely ignore and block them when I was still on that app
If they have no clue where their stuff comes from and what companies are US based, then what hopes do we have that they can be educated as to just how hard tariffs are going to hit the American pocket. 23rd September 1889 Kyoto Japan :(
Hyundai and Toyota are countries from Asian yet they manufactures cars in the United States to make them more affordable for American consumers. I believe that is what this what this gentleman is referring to.
These morons don't understand how trade actually works, or manufacturing, or logistics, or anything really.
They seem think there's thousands of factories ready and waiting to be used, as if production facilities don't take years to plan and build and then staff and get up and running.
Pretty sure an independent report showed that nearly 30% of Twitter accounts not advertising they were bots, were actually bots, even after the “great” bot purge
The only positive from this is it highlights the issue of tariffs to a whole group of people who potentially aren't paying any attention to what's happening out there. And maybe it'll make them mad enough that they do start to pay attention.
You know what this reminds me of?
World War Z. There is an entire chapter about a guy who was tasked with rebuilding America's entire industrial base from scratch to produce the equipment needed to fight zombies.
MAGA finding out that America has virtually no industrial base anymore and that Trump did not have any plan to actually build them has been an amusing moment in history.
"Just BUILD a new factory"
Estimated completion date: 2030, assuming that the developer does not go bankrupt from the tarrifs.
Meanwhile, in a major US semiconductor fab, I'm worried I'll get laid off because business was already bad and now no one can afford the gadgets out product goes in.
Semiconductors fabs *are* actually taking off in the US.
...Because of the CHIPS Act passed in 2022.
But hey, trump knows about it, what did he say again? "Your CHIPS Act is a horrible, horrible thing... You should get rid of the CHIP Act"
They’ll sell them here eventually. But they will send them to friendlier nations first. Especially those with stable/consistent trade policies vs the current US schizophrenic policies.
Every now and again something so utterly stupid is done around me that I take pause just to soak in the fact that people really seem to be far more ignorant then I'm willing to accept.
Honestly? Same here. I've had conversations in person where I see, in real time, the moment the person I'm talking to checks out and clocks back in as soon as I'm done. One time I talked about how dumb MAGA was for just around a minute and the guy replied with, "so does that mean you're not MAGA?"
Is there...any reason why they would ever do that? Unlike with the USA, it wouldn't be cheaper to make them hear like it is in China or other countries.
Republicans live in their own reality where they can just say anything they want and get affirmation. Meanwhile when I'm fucking stupid I get told so by dozens of people.
I have been told we need balanced news consumption or whatever but for some reason I am forced to see far right bullshit all the time and never see any real good shit most of the time.
Even if they made it in America they'd still have to import most of the components. So their options are *they* pay tariffs on each component or *Americans* pay tariffs on the final product.
Kind of a no brainer.
Well, we shouldn’t search below golf spots. Otherwise the orange moron couldn’t play golf, would be more often in the office and break even more stuff…
This is approximately ∞ on my list of worries about negative effects from the Trump admin ... get off the electronics, kick the AI to the curb, go for a hike, go see some live music/theater, play outside. Worry about their culture warring and outright brutality, not about consumerism.
How would NoA avoid tariffs on the parts they import? How would they build facilities in time? How would they find and train factory workers at short notice? Who would pay for all that?
No they pay tarriffs on the parts they import as opposed to paying a tarriff on the whole console, which is like paying a tarriff on all of the parts. Produce what can be made here, import the rest, and then manufacture here.
Can I clarify: are you saying that 8 years ago NoA should have known about Trump's surprise 2025 tariffs that shocked the market, and set up costly manufacturing facilities for a console that hadn't been designed yet, so that they could pay slightly reduced tariffs?
Calm down. The Master System is still being made in Brazil. In 2035 you'll have the American Switch (1). With loads of weird and wonderful games made in people's garages. You don't need the new Mario Kart. You have your very own videogame future ahead of you.
Basically all Electronics are made in China Apple is American their plants are in China like everyone else everyone should know this it's common knowledge
Building everything in the US will still make things more expensive anyways. Products are made overseas because it's cheaper to do it that way. I'm also not sure why these people are suddenly horny for terrible factory jobs. The unemployment rate was healthy before this all started.
I'm confident the people advocating for factory jobs coming back to America haven't even been downwind of one let alone in one. The work is bad and monotonous and often thankless. They want people to be paid pennies to work in sweat shops.
What they remember is factory jobs from the 70’s when many were unionized, and simple tasks were not yet automated so that you could have the brains of cold oatmeal and still find & hold a job there that would pay you enough to afford a house. Monotony doesn’t instill fear in oatmeal brains.
This is what is wrong with half of our country, they are fed a new cycle that feeds these uninformed responses to them like propaganda and they don’t know any different. And when approached with actual facts, they are told to ignore it.
The reality, the us doesn't make things well. Mainly because we don't pay our people a living wage, our maternity time is shit...if u get it. We pay into insurance then die or go into debt because us insurance is a scam, vacation? We work 9 hour days now and they call it a work life balance.
We are certainly ass backwards. I am lucky to have started with 3 weeks, there are some companies that have unlimited. But I'm also salary. Our hourly employees are not so lucky.
Hmm, will this massive international corporation spend billions of dollars to build new factories and train new workers or just change a fraction of their international customer base more money to cover expenses? It's impossible to say!
They’re just postponing so they can figure out how much the consumer will be willing to pay. The tariffs won’t affect them unless people refuse to buy. Large corporations will just pass on the cost. It’s small businesses and consumers who will be hurt the most, as well as retirement savings.
stg I think these people believe that Nintendo just dumps a bag labeled "parts" on a conveyor belt somewhere and a guy hits it with a hammer until it's a Switch
The entire point of trade is that certain things are easier or better to make by certain people in certain places with certain tools set up for making those certain things.
This sort of shit feels obvious to most of us, but apparently if we don't all say it at every opportunity then we get Trump.
Yes they spend entirely too much time on that nonsense instead of getting offf the sofa and experiencing real life is why there is such a high rate of incels from gaming industry. They can't socialize properly nothing wrong the occasional play but when you can't distinguish reality...
Yes, I do feel like I live in a different reality from some other people. In fact, I've come to be quite certain I live in a different in a different reality than about half of people.
It really doesn’t make any sense considering that what we do still manufacture here tends to be pretty advanced. Bubba in Kentucky probably works at a MIC contractor workshop making guidance systems for missiles. It’s just bashing the south based on stereotypes
Yeah I thought about it and the pastor and her wife at my old church were working specifically in a computer chips factory for decades before retiring. Some of your speakers may have passed through their hands. Lmao
But yeah the problem is we have to pay them more than if we exported the work, including building all that infrastructure and getting that whole thing going to make up for all the loss from losing trade.
Nintendo doesn’t make their own game cards and they don’t make the system on a chip either. If you want to be pedantic then nobody really makes anything
Bad example. The US actually is a global leader in high tech manufacturing. It's just not cost effective to do it for consumer goods. We mostly make stuff like aircrafts and the machines other factories use.
Yeah correct. Who could forget the precious Turbo V ESI ion source. Made in America to ensure your triple quad mass spectrometer doesn't have a bunch of liquified horse shit going into the rails.
Of course, the first factories open next week and the American workers are already lining up to work there for Chinese or Vietnamese wages.
That is, if you want to produce against the same costs.
Yes, make them in the USA after you and all the manufacturers of all the components build and open factories here. And then figure out how to source all those raw materials used the make those components from resources available in the USA.
Do these fools even understand that the process of “making” something like a Nintendo switch isn’t simply someone in a factory “putting it together”? JFC. We live in a global economy; it’s why we have so many cool things today.
This is the lesson Americans need in “exceptionalism”. We’ve done as well as we have because we tried to make lasting friendships and exchange ideas and resources. Now these entitled idiots are seeing “America first” is as dumb as it sounds.
Definitely. Like during Covid when people were more concerned with their planned trips to places like Disney and being able to travel by plane while bodies were piling up in freezer trucks. The world was burning and they're concerned with vacation plans
Nah, we just need to go back to bullying stupid people until they have a mental breakdown. Instead of taking anything they say as something to reflect about.
maybe they dont buy things from us because they dont fucking need things from us
we need things from them though hoo boy
but they dont care, they just wanna buy all the stocks for a cheap ass price
I made the mistake of reading the comment section of this post on FB and the number of people thinking this is somehow “greedy Nintendo”’s fault made my brain melt.
Do these MAGATS even understand economics? How long it takes to build factories and how many natural resources we import to make things, resources that aren’t available to us in the US?
You understand how simply casting people out of your community because they got duped into voting against their self interest can breed resentment that further alienates people away from your cause?
Youre never going to create solidarity if youre too busy dabbing on entire subsects of the population who are suffering. It doesnt matter what percent of them voted for this, especially with how grossly gerrymandered so many states are. Nobody deserves to suffer.
If things continue on this track, they will lose their farms, along with thousands of others. Driving the price of farmland down. Allowing large companies to swoop in and gobble up the land. Then hire those farmers to work their old land (at minimum wage, obviously).
Are you getting it yet…?
Another “I break my child’s trust early to prepare them for the ‘real world’ that I encourage to be the real world” right-wing thought process. Nice, you’re good at this.
No one is saying that they shouldn’t take responsibility, but wishing harm on your neighbor is shitty. We’re in the same boat.
farmers practice the economics progressives advocate for. Worker coops, unions, right to repair, the issue is liberals gave up on messaging economics to these people (because they don't actually want that), and let GOP culture war nonsense eat up their votes.
I’m not laughing at them, and no shit I like food, but there is nothing I can personally do to change the situation. People were warned and chose this situation with their eyes wide open. We have to acknowledge that. They’re not victims—Trump campaigned on this and they voted for it.
.............does Manu think a company can only ever operate in the country they were born in? Fuck MAGA, but Nintendo absolutely could build anything anywhere,
Remember that it's not just assembling the components. You either need to domestically ramp up silicon production or pay for imports. Domestic semiconductor production is still years away as well, tbh. Those two factors will make it infeasible, most likely.
This is all my car groups on Facebook. "Just make them (cars, parts, etc) here"
Like, my dudes, do you understand trade and commerce work? Or how expensive things are going to get if/when we have to open new plants here AND pay people a living wage with benefits to work there??
The US just needs to build its own sun and then blow it up and we’ll be set indefinitely on most all the important elements we need for manufacturing like lithium
American arrogance (ie) where a significant number of people think the US is the center of the universe, is a big reason why we elected this orange turd for president and why the country is headed into a recession and being hated more than ever abroad.

RACIST WEEBS DO NOT KNOW WHAT ANIME IS .

Same dumb shit, it’s what the Americans modeled a lot of this on tbh
It's the only way I have to know
that I'm on the right path.

I mean what am i missing here.

Don’t Start Shit; Won’t Be Shit. FAFO
It is a different world. Lmao
In the factory that doesn't exist and where your materials will be unaffordable due to tariffs.
"uh, get your materials from america"
They are not made in america. They're made in the country Trump allowed to be invaded by the CCP.
Then they’ll cost more even with tariffs.
There’s a US company that makes a 2,000$ smart phone with components comparable to an 800$ Chinese made phone.
Children didn’t make the $2000 American phone.
Such a dumbfuck retort...
Or 8 billion in the world...
Hum, what will the Japan based company choose?
Kind of a no brainer.
Going to be epic
And if every part and subassembly were made in the US, the raw materials would have to be imported and subject to tariffs. All the way down.
1. Move your entire manufacturing operation to the United States days before a console launch.
2. ???
3. ????
4. Profit
Even Reggie has said they put Japan first. And he was head of America.
It's so stupid.
In our reality, no one else focuses on the root cause allowing them to create an alternative as their safety net
Wait… how much would it cost if made here again? Asking for a friend.
This sort of shit feels obvious to most of us, but apparently if we don't all say it at every opportunity then we get Trump.

They just stole it from us

You can FAFO attacking farmers "danial"
Biden undid the first term of Trumps tariffs, did the farmers reward him with their vote? No. Elections have consequences.
Oh Wait
At least the leopards wont have a shortage
Like, my dudes, do you understand trade and commerce work? Or how expensive things are going to get if/when we have to open new plants here AND pay people a living wage with benefits to work there??
Man, that "supply chain" thing is so simple. White House, here I come!
A kind hand that reaches across borders.
And, tbh, an international economy is the only way to go in a world with nuclear weapons. Just saying.
Why the hell are we punishing tiny nations because they can’t buy as much from us as we can from them?
They didn't come to thay conclusion on their own, they were heavily propaganded into it.
Which is a third of that country. Plus another third who saw that and didn't even bother to vote because "both sides" or something
