Wow, people in Britain would rather raise taxes on the rich even if that leads them to flee the country, reducing overall tax revenues (and meaning taxes go up for the rest of us). H/T https://www1.politicalbetting.com/index.php/archives/2025/06/25/the-politics-of-envy/

I guess they're the type that enjoys seeing the most vulnerable in society suffer and die so the 0.1% can have a few more numbers added to their wealth.
Sam Friedman, Professor of Sociology at LSE, commented: “We need to challenge the prevailing assumption that if you tax the rich, they will leave. "
Seems like you could do with talking to Sam Friedman Tim.
"Despite the headline-grabbing claims made, Henley & Partners’ own reports reveal that a millionaire exodus did not occur."
It just doesn't happen Tim but the rich want you to think it does.

"Wow, people in Britain see through my transparent horseshit," is not the flex you think it is.
Since you are so insistent on being on them sucking off billionaires all day ….
I hope they close the loopholes in every single country one at a time leaving Russia to keep the practice. See how fucking keen they are to leave when their only option is a place where oligarchs regularly find themselves falling out of windows.
And dont forget those rich folks are your enemy, and lives
Also, most of the rich won't leave. They never do.
This reads like entrenched interests arguing (w/o evidence) that we're beyond the peak of the Laffer curve.
I'm not saying we're anywhere close to that. Yet. But we're heading in that direction. We're certainly in a place, as that poll demonstrates, that people are now more interested in punishment than justice.
That would mean that the wealthy and corporations would have to leave the entire market. No more vacation homes. 😢
Likelier the lost revenue would be irrelevant because it's less than the welfare those queens require.
All based on 'estimates' provided by an agency that helps high net worth individuals relocate.
Along with 'London is a no go zone'
Win win....
Use the BMP6 - available for free download from IMF.
That includes the first question asked, which explains the phrasing of the second question.

Truly a travesty
We can have fewer self-important arseholes fucking up the country and all it would take is having to pay a little more tax?
Okay! Sign me up baby!
And the downside is?
Go away.
And where will they go, Brainiac?
If everybody around you is as rich or richer, where's the fun in that.
They'll NEVER LEAVE.
Society is better with them gone.
Seattle knows - best thing that happened to us was Bezos leaving, so we got to keep Makenzie and get rid of his meddling.
There's been strong public support for this for decades.
The scare stories just don't work.
You know, after Brexit. They got exactly what they wanted and as things started looking bad some wealthy Brexiteers fled to the EU.
Turns out they just wanted to exploit the UK even harder but didn't want to live in a country rotting from the inside out.
But they can't take a lot of their assets with them so let them go
There's also ways to tax money before it gets off shored if people start trying that more
That and this bullshit argument were created by the obscenely wealthy so you won't properly tax them.
If they had it so bad, they wouldn't be purchasing politicians.
Extraordinary.
Cos every single disgusting cunt with money is a criminal who owes us. And they can work off that debt by doing some ACTUAL work for a change. In the gulag, where they all fucking belong.
“Yeah they can either pay their fair share to contribute to our society or GTFO and we’ll figure it out without them”.
Just make them sell up their property portfolio on the way out.
Tax the rich.
The fact that you are surprised means that you need to get out a little more. You sound like a tool who believes in things like trickle down economics. You can't be that stupid, right?
it's like, if they raise taxes, that's great because the government gets more money for the chronically underfunded nhs. if they instead get the billionaires out that seems like it'll pay for itself quickly.
Don't be daft you giant melt, capital flight is an empty threat, and like all hollow threats made by petulant children it needs to be ridiculed and ignored, as do you.
But who will you believe? 40 plus years of data on the impact of neoliberalism, or loudly stated claims that regurgitate the dead spirit of Thatcher?
Okay... and...?
Be thorough. Show your working.
If we had good schools, health service and public realm people are fine with billionaires (I’m not) but not when everything is such a mess
This idea of the rich leaving is simply bullshit by the rich.
The jig is up, tax the rich, tax passive income like work or reap the consequences
Here’s the question I’d like to see asked:
“How many basic services and how much public investment would you be willing to cut in order to attract billionaires to your country?”
Nonsense.
Call their bluff.
Play them at their game.
You pay a bit more in tax and get eg. dentists, and don't have to buy dodgy kits from Boots and fuck up your liver with painkillers and booze.
“Would you like to continue paying the same minimal rate of tax even if it means the country you live in collapses into a dystopian hell and millions of your fellow citizens are unable to afford even the basics they need to survive?”
If you live in a town with a factory that poisons the air and water, but provides jobs, and they say they'll close if you force them to clean up their act, it is not stupid to accept jobs losses in order to have clean air and water.
We need to work pragmatically. Yes, let’s close down the poisoning factories and ensure wealth is redistributed (the tax system) but it won’t happen overnight.
If we want safe change, we have to change slowly.
This set up we have in the UK, it is not the natural order of things. It started after Thatcher. It was different before, and it is different in most of our neighbouring countries.
1) the context is a country where these threats to leave are very well publicised, but notoriously rarely followed through.
2) what about respondents who believe the long term effect of reducing gross inequality and increasing public investment is greater growth?
Plenty of the richest people in this country would have little to no taxable income thanks to all the loopholes.
The best way forward would be to redistribute all the wealth so taxation isn’t reliant on a small, politically connected population.
Also Rock and roll is full of bad Wools.

Try again, dipshit
No one needs billions of dollars. It is an absurdity. If a monkey hoarded more bananas than he could ever eat, we would dissect that monkey to find out what was wrong with it.
Imagine how many fewer austerities would be required if they actually payed a progressive tax
How did they get the money in the first place, champ?
(who is paid a living wage and can afford housing, food, and all the necessities of life)
that would be my option tbh, I mean it takes significantly more delta V than firing them right out the solar system but I think we should take care of our own waste problems
The rich are not above the rest of us, and the idea that they can just move to escape forgets that their wealth only exists because our society permits it to.
They're just making idle threats for the most part, so they can carry on as is!
Think it's time governments stopped bowing down to them and actually start taxing them more effectively, no more tax dodging & the country would be better off!
