"I have something here for you. Your mother wanted you to have this when you were old enough, but your aunt wouldn't allow it. This was your mother's Hitachi Magic Orgasm Ghost..."
It opens with a funeral taking place on Planet Scotland which is presided over by an alien priest who also happens to be the mayor, and gets weirder from there.
Allison Pregler covered this episode on her Movie Nights series a few years back when she was just getting into to Star Trek and wanted to do a feature on “awesomely bad” episodes across the franchise. She clearly loved this one.
I can't tell if it's confirmation bias but all the episodes that come on randomly at work seem to be the weird sex ones. This one, the time two of them turned into monsters and made a kid
I did genuinely love that in the 24th century, there's a group of Scottish people who settled a planet and decided to cosplay as 19th century Scotland, down to the clothing and dated building designs.
I'm a big fan of the "Wesley, don't do drugs' episode. I have no idea what it's called, or what season it was in, but even just thinking about it makes me giggle every time.
I want to generalize; I unironically adore Star Trek in general. It's optimistic in a way most shows nowadays aren't. It's like a procedural but instead of solving a ghastly crime in every episode, we see a retro future brimming with hope and possibilities.
Gates absolutely loved this episode FWIW just because it was such a huge break from Guy Episodes and it gave her so much to do. It was popular among the female staff of the show, apparently.
I unironically love it too. I don’t get the hate.
It also first introduced me to the idea of a cozy, old fashioned cottage, but with just the essential modern tech. And a small, walkable community. Basically I wanted to live in that episode. Still do.
Gates McFadden is quite possibly the kindest, warmest and most friendly & patient celebrity I've ever met
(Went to a lot of Trek Conventions back in the 90s. I met her, Mirina Sirtis and Jon Frakes in Chicago one year, just absolutely DELIGHTFULLY nice people)

"The universe is a spheroid region 705 meters in diameter."
Well, 2 nickels which isn't yada yada yada.
I am a staunch defender of Move Along Home.
"It's, it's child's play," says Bones, his own brain temporarily filled with knowledge from a more advanced culture, before he cuts into Spock's head.
Spock being remote-controlled by Bones is, just, I can't.
THEM BODIES SITTING UP THO
-ghosts are real
-Crusher's grandmother is dead
Therefore:
Beverly Crusher's grandmother's ghost could be watching her fuckghost fuck her granddaughter
From the Wiki:
When Wesley fails to comprehend all of this, Tasha assures him it's just as well.
I'm surprised they didn't bring in Nancy "Just Say No" herself.
