The amount of South Korean democratic and autocratic presidents not in jail or who have not commited sudoku can be counted on one hand with one finger Mr. Political analyst
This is one hell of a pile-on for what's basically just a not very funny joke. I know ROK was authoritarian until the '90s and DPRK is more than merely authoritarian. Is there something else going on I'm not getting, that drew such a response?
DC media freaks and liberal political operative perverts make it their entire idea to pretend the Far-Right is either actually normal or not real in the first place
as an american, i think most americans rarely think about korea. and half of americans cannot even recognize the far-right in our own country. we're just dumb idk.
You're suffering from a huge wave of barely literate (like, actually shocking metrics on that), utterly uneducated people of voting age as a result of a long-term and *intentional* effort to ensure exactly that outcome.
I don’t think any of us has. But reading the article he did it because he and his wife are being investigated. Maybe stops fucking committing crimes. I mean cmon.
What about this is "obviously sarcastic?" It's a joke, sure, but it's a dumb one that indicates ignorance of South Korea and its history, which just is not remotely helpful right now.
Maybe it's good I never got my poli sci degree, or maybe I should have gotten it so I can convince people some of us actually know history. Sweet Jesus.
I think it's more so that liberals openly caught up to Jeff seeing how he was a product of Bush era culture and we just watched a Democrat run on a bush era platform
now, I yelled at Ian yesterday for posting something that could have been a Fox News post. but this is a whole new level of yelling. are you all Koreans? or trolls?
he said a stupid thing, we yell at him for it. now you want to come to his defense because ???? even though you start your post by saying you yelled at him before?
are you defensive because you don't know anything about south korea too
South Korea was ruled by right-wing anti-communist dictators up until the end of the 1980s. Historically speaking, if anything is an aberration for them it's parliamentary democracy.
Also I can't think of anything less like North Korea than a president declaring martial law (the Kims do not need to do this) only to backtrack after massive protests (what protests?) and their own party voting against them.
South korea has been ruled by right wing dictators for most of its existence, so when another right winger tries to become dictator in the long history of South Korean dictators its pretty stupid to be like "communism"
You’ve already proven yourself ignorant on Korean history with your first post. You gonna skim read a couple of English language Wikipedia pages on Korean contemporary politics and give your “expert deep dive”?
If you took 30 seconds to skim the Wikipedia article on South Korea's history, you'd realize that you are an idiot. But you're a busy man, and it's a busy time of year
They... were not, this was a right wing coup to overthrow a democratically elected parliament the president disagreed with. So really they became the US, except I expect actual consequences for the conspirators from South Korea.
Upsetting and genuinely weird times we're living through. It's as though most of the developed world is becoming unglued. I just hope we have more than Elmer's to keep us together.
I’m assuming you had a mini-stroke and forgot all the years South Korea was a military dictatorship with the advice and consent of the U.S. government.
The ROK is a government founded on the massacre of it's own people and the empowerment of a colonial-collaborationist, corporate and criminal elite. One ROK president was shot in the head by his own intel chief. Most of what you hear about the DPRK are paid-for lies from ROK and US sources.
i'm not a capitalist. there's a lot wrong with south korea. but to say that north korea, a place constantly doing jaw-dropping human rights violations on its citizens, undergoing starvation, with some of the most psychotic censorship on the planet is better than south korea? wild to say.
Anti-Communism is the lifeblood of liberalism. They don't really care that much about stopping fascism because they must team up with fascists to try to stop socialism. They have always been buddies and they always will until we destroy both.
It’s not that communism is inherently bad, or that capitalism is inherently bad. It’s their totalitarian implementation, followed by blatant corruption, that is bad.
That’s not my point. My point is that this form of totalitarianism has been extremely common in South Korean history. This was at least the fifth coup/attempt and the 16th declaration of martial law in the 76 years that South Korea has been around.
Well both leaders were authoritarian-nationalist, there is a clear difference between authoritarian-right-nationalist of the South Korea coup attempt and the authoritarian-left-nationalist of North Korea.
In fact the South Korean leader in question used red scare about North Korea to justify it.
Hold on - you're a professional political scientist. How do you not know the similarities between the authoritarian tendencies of the DPRK & ROK?
You know that South Korea only fully democratized in 1988, right? You know the last impeached ROK president was the granddaughter of a dictator, right?

Political "scientist": what are they? A bunch of left wingers?!
1987. i am older than democracy in south korea

Even though US media should already be more familiar with American authoritarianism under Jim Crow:
Now, if only the US had a congress that would oppose another authoritarian wannabe.
Maybe they should have a recount?
Lib Jeff Dunham dropped.
he said a stupid thing, we yell at him for it. now you want to come to his defense because ???? even though you start your post by saying you yelled at him before?
are you defensive because you don't know anything about south korea too
is that it
This is irony. I don't think you are an asset on this platform.
Anti-communism is the lifeblood of liberalism.
But I'm going to stay here to help change America to a socialist state.
I'm doing it to piss off fascist motherfuckers like you.
I'm detecting hints of communism.
