In 2021, McConnell successfully filibustered a Democratic CR ahead of a government shutdown and forced them to accept a clean one instead. What happened this week - a total cave on a totally partisan long-term funding bill - hasn’t happened in the 20 years I’ve covered Congress.

Chuck lives in a world where people follow norms, rules and laws.
Trump lives in a world where he got elected to the presidency as a felon.
Yes, there is always an argument to be made that this battle, or that one, is a bad idea and should be avoided.
But that only makes sense if you're going to fight on more favorable terms elsewhere.
Democrats *never* fight, ever. It's not a calculus, it's an excuse.
2. If a shut down benefits the admin why did the house republicans pass a CR at all
Schumer is lying to the base to justify his cowardice, maybe he’s even convinced himself of the falsehoods to justify it to himself too
There's no real opposition, there's only the illusion of opposition
Not one Democrat opposed ALL of the rapist felon's cabinet picks
Meanwhile, he's burning this country to the ground & Dems are worried about decorum
We have no united front. It's every man for himself
From this perspective, it looks like he got paid off.
Schumer was either bribed or threatened. Or got new orders.
He gave us to Nazis to appease Netanyahu.
He's getting dogwalked by Land War With Both Neighbors.
He couldn't strategize his way out of a paper bag
How one got to the conclusion of being wrong is immaterial when you are so fing wrong
The damage will be severe and irrevocable.
Yeah, me either.
Is that a good strategy?
… next excuse, please. 🤬🤬
I'm curious about examples of this secretive trashing of non-profits by Schumer.
Not that I'd know about "behind closed doors" unless I was behind that door.
GET MOVING AMERICANS. Once judicial capture/sidelining is accomplished, it's MUCH harder to fight. Ask an activist in Hungary, El Salvador or Russia. Poland has fought fascism, they know, too.
Might be hard to find an elected Democrat who wants power even if it means complete destruction of our system of government and way of life
Ingsoc lives, apparently.
@schumer.senate.gov just rolled over. He will likely do it again in September. This is a weak leadership style and needs to step down. Call your Senators.
McConnell isn't the Senate Majority Leader.
Please take that into consideration when lambasting Democrats.
🤬🤬🤬🤬
..
And they didn't bite. Knowing full well what happens after 30 days of furlough.
When you gonna figure that part out?
-Republicans today.
Schumer is a multimillionaire- of course he sides with the oligarchs looting the country.

Explain it to me like I’m Lauren Boebert.
Without a plan & daily press conferences, unsuccessful brinkmanship tactics makes all losers in the end.
Dems — make a plan.

It’s hard to believe that the ones who voted NO on cloture are unaware of the info in that article.
It's a disturbing comparison but it gets the point across:
"She caved, she gave him what he wanted just because he put a gun to her kid's head. Why didn't she stand firm?"
Dr Seuss would be proud👏
Also the new DNC is starting town halls in red districts and working to get new people running for seats all over https://democrats.org/peoples-town...
Use any measure you can to get these assholes out! AOC was a waitress, we can get elected!
Schumer is Manchin (but more MAGA).
He has only been pretending to resist the GOP to fake out his co-workers. He loves the return of 1850s American values.
I hate this timeline
Divide&conquer got us exactly here. Carry on
Sure sure. Be McConnell. Guy who stopped public knowing abt RU by threat. A broken racist that lost his shit over Obama. Guy that facilitated SCOTUS. Guy that made coup2.0 possible. Jusify becoming what you despise
NO
WE. SAVE. US.
Tactical v ethical
Holding a firearm correctly while committing murder IS murder.
And how about step off the Corps speak champ
Btw it's the USMC Eagle Globe and Anchor emblem off of camo cover essentials book
Republicons don't care whether they govern or not, so shutdowns HELP Rcons rather than hurt them.
No matter what happens, they blame the Democrats.
Lets all give turtle-boy the gift that keeps giving, impeach in 2027, clean up and out the federal judiciary, 6 new SCOTUS Justices, dbl 5th and 11 Circuit,
We had that weak majority.
Trump would enjoy and extend a shutdown.
Clearly, Shumer should have learned a lesson.
their families threatened. tRump is, after all, a big Putin admirer and the Supreme Court has greenlighted it …
Horrible person and is top 5 people who are fault for our current situation.
But his lack of shame and ability to constantly move the goalposts made him great leader.
Sadly

Dems could've filibustered longer if there had been more time.
But the Friday deadline meant Rcons would either get the CR they wanted or the shutdown they wanted.
Some folks felt the shutdown would create a LOT more pain & chaos.
I remember folks lining up for hot food & warm clothes during the 2018 shutdown. Some workers/vets never got back pay.
And Elmo would've loved to see millions go off the payroll overnight.
@schumer.senate.gov needs to be replaced
Common .. think like angry Mitch
Dems - Chuck is not what we need right now. I wish Nancy was running the senate so she could point her fingers in his face one more time.
I’ve been a Democrat my entire life and I about fucking puked last night listening to him.
And now one wonders what other emergency powers trump will start using since he has 2 years

We're only 35 days from the deadline in his EO for SecDef to recommend the use of the 1807 insurrection act
Tieneman square here we come
Please say more about this I haven't heard anyone talking about this
I was at my senators office yesterday but they were closed because it was a Friday afternoon. I'm going back on monday
They seem to know this is in there but they aren't thinking like an autocrat. I don't think they see the danger
https://bsky.app/profile/kernelkorn420.bsky.social/post/3lk5j7gim522g
And your Senator's office was NOT closed yesterday because it was Friday afternoon(!).
They all spent most of the day yesterday on the Senate floor.
There was a big vote that you may have heard people talking about?
And just because senators are voting doesn't mean the staff at the offices are going to be there
What specific question do you have on the issue I'm raising? https://www.voanews.com/a/house-republicans-block-congress-ability-to-challenge-trump-tariffs-/8007404.html
It gives Trump an illegal line item veto, so he can just zero out the EPA, CFPB, USAID, Education department, etc., which
HE COULD NOT LEGALLY DO BEFORE.
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/03/14/us/politics/trump-republicans-congress-power.html
Yes, I am aware of this obviously unconstitutional provision in the bill. If only we had an impartial SCt...but we don't.
Thanks for the link.
The unconstitutional part is that I'll bet my left foot that Trump will baselessly claim that this shows Congress agrees->
He ain't got that dog in him.
What say you? WHY didn’t you +9 hold the line?
Enjoy the book tour azzhat.
Not a parallel situation for a lot of reasons
