the "everyone is beautiful and no one is horny" Marvel model is a blight on cinema

it seems wild that Hollywood spent the last 15 years fully forgetting "sex sells", its core tenet for the first hundred or so years of its history

I'm sitting there screaming "GO FUCK SOMEWHERE ELSE BEFORE YOU GET BIT IN THE ASS BY A MAMBA!"
Now, X-men needs to be horny, even if some of it is subtext, it needs to be there.
That's a good autocorrect tho
Most of what I think of as chemistry is scenes that technically wouldn't get above a PG, but the _tension_...)
10 year old me: wow he can hear her through the walls? 😳
And when Marvel did try romance - remember the weird out-of-the-blue "love" between Banner and Natasha? - it was the most cringeworthy bit of cinema I've seen, ever.
Lol
MCU has one(1) sex.
Who else is canonically freaky among the MCU? I guess Daredevil, but he's too performatively guilty.
Also Marvel films can continue, but oh boy do they need to improve. They are recycling the same beats each movie and it is noticeable.
Then again, maybe the genre is just played-out. 40 movies and what more do people want from this place? If they try to be inventive like Johnson in Last Jedi it just goes to a criticism cesspool.
That’s why they went away
So now an outlier comes along and the quiet majority speaks with their wallets
There's a specific type of indie sleaze he trafficked but beyond his influence there was an era when an R rating on a movie basically guaranteed you were gonna get to see a boob
Sex absolutely sells and there was censorship for international (china) audiences but it often leaned on the lead showing nudity.
what happened is they learned that resurrecting Puritan scolding gave them a rush. sex cancelling is ego driven, not at all moral. they’re just a vocal minority of bad people
Like that's the majority of the posts here https://www.reddit.com/r/CharacterRant/comments/1axmkdn/younger_peoples_dislike_of_sex_scenes_in_films/

Like. Where did my casual facial disfigurements go? Skin blotches? Body fat?
And sure, eating disorders in Hollywood have been common for awhile. That's technically not new.
Captain America and Thor slightly less so, but still more than the more recent entries.
Yuck.
As if baby trapping wasnt a useful trait for a spy...
I cannot forgive Ultron for its forced heterosexual romances
Granted the part I probably take issue with is "everyone is beautiful". I want less conventionally attractive people! We need to not make Look Good an essential thing!
they used to do chemistry screens between leads ffs. now it's like every casting choice is focused group'd to death
Is it from a change in directors? A change in output from those directors such that they found success with early horny and then had the runway to spend more time on their films/also make them less horny?
Or is it actor driven?
Iron Man next. I doubt we'll make it past endgame tho.
Meanwhile Nat and Steve are off destroying mattresses or whatever.
yeah no idea why joss would do this
At least I could watch Steve and Nat while thinking, "Yeah, I bet those two could get up to some freak shit."
But you're not wrong about their utter sexlessness. Even when one character gives another the old up and down, it's just to comment on their body armour.
They clearly are.
Someone said this critique around 2018 and people have been parroting it since.
Instead they did that creepy hulk plot.
(And then you get to her in the sheer dress, the dance, and the stairs. But that doesn't work if you don't have the restaurant first.)
Must add it to my re-watch soon pile.

Out Of Sight’s chemistry is a weapon that can’t be exported because it is too potent. Can only be microdosed in controlled conditions.
Just none of this Three Thousand Years of Longing faffery, that should have shown them that how beautiful the actors are doesn’t solve things.
& we've basically gone back to Lucy & Ricky Ricardo in seperate beds.
Like there's so much fucking just -barely- not onscreen, though a few times it gets way more explicit (remember the bondage rygil flashing to scenes of Crais in stockings?), and it's glorious.
God I loved that show.
"That woman scares the crap out of me."
"It's the hat"

Great show.

ok maybe not the *best* arc but by far the most *interesting* arc of farscape was when farscape got cancelled but somehow the entire cast smuggled itself into stargate sg-1 and took over????
Pretty much any early aughts late nineties shows
I find you can't do good sci-fi without being horny. Traveling empty space pretty much demands it.
also Logan, but he's been horny for over a hundred years so he fits right in
They can be horny, that's coo.
This wasnt really a thing.
All the beautiful Marvel characters you know and love, except, they are mega-horny and everything goes...
film horny is about the slow build, the tensions, the coming close but not yet … you can see it but not have it (yet)
which is a different genre medium than internet pornography which is immediate
im•media•cy vs mediums and other med words
Likewise the rise of executives with goals that are not the writers, directors, actors, etc. You do not have control if one is an
But the thing when you do the thriller which is horny, you are mixing danger with the horny
and with the rise of the internet we see the decline of newspapers, magazines, even local tv. While simultaneously the basic big 3 has been showing this stuff since the 00s like desperate housewives and so on.
The MCU equivalent is CBS not HBO.
