π PSA for nondisabled people π
It's time to step the FUCK up if you wanna be an ally.
ASL interpretation is being targeted by right wing cry baby douchebags.
Shut this shit down when you see it. SPEAK UP. This barrage of ASL hate is heavier than usual.

Please know that they are driven by two ..
Three things
Irritating the disenfranchised.. minorities of all forms
They are not directly affected by any loss of rights or responsibilities
They get lobbyist $$$ to do this
You got to just be searching for problems at this point like..... what?
Sign language hasnβt hurt anyone
It's contempt for the "unproductive," the "weak," and the "defective."
This has...
It's the coward's way.
Dems talk a good game, but it's always the GOP that ends up getting it done
And people wonder why they lost so bad... people noticed they stopped working for us
Seriously, look out up. Whenever Dems have full power, they do nothing for disabled people
Why do Democrats just abandon everyone?
Just like when the GOP was taking credit for infrastructure money they voted against
People are seeing how lazy the Dems are. It's why they've lost so many votes nationally
They need to get back to actually doing work
If the party wants me back, they should actually do something that helps people
They keep getting by, because the fight happens more under GOP, than it does under Dems, because people think Dems are doing things, but they are not
People need to fight
He ignored it completely, by not evening acknowledging it or us
2. the ADA was passed by a dem congress, but was put into action by new president HW Bush
3. The ADA was amended to fix many issues, by W Bush
4. the Mental Health Parity Act, signed '96, was introduced by GOP Sen. Domenici
"the Mental Health Parity Act, signed '96, was introduced by GOP Sen. Domenici ..." and signed into law by Bill Clinton.
Bipartisan
These people have no idea how much it impacts language and how children born deaf struggle with learning to read and write English. ASL is their language. Closed captioning is for people with hearing loss. {{{{{GRRRRRRR}}}}
How disrespectful. People need to stop taking offense at stuff that doesn't harm them.
But the language barrier is like, half the intruige
These people just can't believe that someone can have different ideas or beliefs. Someone disagrees with me? Clearly a money driven group. There's no way I could be missing information or *gasp* wrong. It's the disabled people who are wrong about what they need
they're a blight on society.
nobody tell him about audio description, next he'll be complaining about too many people talking at once
Does he even believe the crap he's spewing, or is he just bullshitting as a means of selling a product?
We need more sign language interpreters, not less.
How are those who are deaf less important as human beings?
Jesus christ
Is he palling around with this politician from Missouri?

Spoiler alert; a sexual predator. That's who.
then maybe they will embrace all the diverse ways of communicating.
though they are probably to dumb to learn a second language. π§
Just expecting the disabled people to stay home. Why would they be part of society. Why would a deaf person be actually -AT- a press conference.
Like seriously, these people. The fuck.
Thereβs such a long time delay that sometimes the captions just skip whole sentences, meaning deaf viewers donβt get all the info
Iβm not deaf, but I can have a hard time following stuff without captions
ASL is not just English performed with your hands. Itβs a totallly independent language with different:
- syntax
- ways to use pronouns
- ways to show emphasis
CC is English, which to many is a second language, ASL being their first.
I identify as βthis bitch over here.β
just get in the sea honestly

Whatβs with Limbaugh voice?
O he was addicted to opiates!!!
Well if HE is addicted then we MUST address opiate addiction!!
We sterilized women in the US who we deemed "mentally unit" until 1979.
Don't underestimate them.
Look, I get the frustration of it being done by the seat of its pants, but at least it's trying. YouTube used to offer that as a community option for people to make subtitles on videos for hard of hearing until they got rid of it years ago.
I don't want a one-size-fits-all approach, rather I want as many options as possible for various problems

These billionaires are dangerous.
"We don't need ASL, you can read these captions in what is essentially a foreign language. Good luck!" What utter horseshit
wtf.
Not only is text historically bad at translating tone, but ASL isn't a direct translation of English anyway. Stupid complaints by stupid people
Out of all of them, Rufo just might be the worst. I really canβt stand that asshole.
That would be 3 dialects Greenlandic language
Spanish
Canadian French
Heβll immediately turn the US into a multilingual nation

We may need a new word because "absurd" doesn't even begin to cover it.
Closed captions are GARBAGE.
CC is one tool for inclusive communications but it is not adequate to convey meaning and maintain engagement and it SUCKS for real-time interpretation. For recorded media, adding CC is a whole additional project (often done badly!) and it is mere translation , not interpretation.
*Makes sure to plug book*
Oh my fucking god, why would disabled people try to influence public policy?
It can't possibly be because the world has become less and less accessible to them, could it?
No, it has to be part of some nefarious plot to annoy you, personally.
Go break both your legs.

They are far from perfect, as shown in the admittedly hilarious image I included. Anyone who says they're fine is a liar.
Not to mention it a job, do they not like job creation?
They contribute absolutely nothing to society. π€¬
They want to exterminate everyone who does "not fit"
We need more of these people not less.
This is one of many by the way. And it doesn't include the fact that captioning is often at least thirty seconds behind the voices, and can't convey the things that both voices and sign language can.
https://bsky.app/profile/ashleemboyer.com/post/3lfj2bhbmus26
To add to what I listed: captions are also frequently incorrect or have gaps
Gee, way to downplay how much work it takes to learn sign language and master it to the point where you can accurately interpret speech with it as you listen.
A man in a sweater sits at a bar next to a man in a Nazi uniform. The Nazi is saying, βyou know, you canβt just call everyone you disagree with a fascist.β
βturns the event into a farceβ
βmakes it worse for mostβ
Yeah, I really see the issue here π
Do these two rotten spunkrags feel their corrupt big mans pseudo-seriousness might be undercut by seeing people singn whatever he vomits out or do they pfear people laught about them and they wouldnt know.
Shout down anyone you see spreading this rhetoric.
Let people know you're an ally so they have a safe space if the worst happens.
Boycott anything that agrees with this, especially if it's something you never ever miss.
What is Big Deaf?
Also, Iβm not very good at math, but that interpreter is NOT taking up 40% of the screen.
what does this even mean??? is he implying deaf people have captured the government???
My college has a large Deaf population and we have ASL interpreters. Shout out to them and my college for making education and events accessible.
Yeah, how dare disabled people speak for themselves and state what they need and what works best for them. /s
I posted about this last night too.
"Althπ€πͺππ Alice took cπ€πͺππ medicine, she had a rπ€πͺππ time sleeping thrπ€πͺππ the night."
Also please don't use fancy script here it negatively impacts screen reader users.

These people are hateful, evil ghouls. π¬
I wish nothing but misery on every one of them.
Same as hearing Japanese and Korean around Seattle made me want to learn them.
I work in the advocacy space at conventions and tend to see a lot more people being grateful that interpreters were available at ALL.
Having an interpreter available isn't a necessity, 1/2
Absolutely galling to see this happen on a larger scale.
Unaffected people needs to do a much better job of calling out their own rather than just letting it slide because itβs socially uncomfortable to do otherwise.
