I use a Macbook for work and updated it yesterday. The update automatically turned on Apple Intelligence and I had to turn it off.
I can't think of any other product in modern history that has been so sweatily shoved onto customers by companies.
Is there any precedent for this kind of desperation?

Wiped out some imported music, grabbed my own recordings reading to grandkids and tried to induct me into its streaming service. I quit iTunes.
But also I think apple has run into a bit of a pickle because it's now its own competitor.
Google asks and suggests, but doesn't open things onscreen as if I'd asked. Microsoft does and I have to go into settings to stop it.
No one likes AI but the people selling it.
The posts we are all replying to are rarely unique, so until you scour social media to make sure no one has made the same post, you can’t expect others to limit their social media interactions to agreeing.
When you post, you start a conversation, but for the most part you don't get to control where it goes or how people contribute.
🙄
And I liked U2 then.
That said, I'll prolly get around to it but now I know to turn off Apple Intelligence. Swear to the Goddess I'm SO CLOSE to reinstalling a land line (my 1962 ranch still has the outlets) & pretending it's '92.
I'm kinda surprised Apple waited this long 😂
Perhaps fructose corn syrup, DDT, round up ready soybeans, aspartame and lead in petrol.
All of which had much better alternatives but got pushed onto consumers deliberately because they were incredibly…
The damage to the health of the consumers and the catastrophic effects on the environment ‘be damned’ as long as one or two groups could control the supply the vast profits could be privatized while the costs were forced upon the populous.
However, here is the caveat if you are chugging liters of Mountain Dew or Diet Coke while you are taking creatine or therapeutics with similar modes of action…
That’s a massive issue as it can do a lot of damage to you. Add in the fact that a good 8% of the world’s population has an alcohol dehydrogenase deficiency and you and it’s…
It’s absolutely bonkers that’s it’s now in everything as a sugar replacement.
Better to install ChatGPT.
It's pretty shitty, but they're all guilty of it.
Which is less than 20 times the investment money they get.
The only way for AI to make a profit is government contracts.
A more pertinent example is the revelation of macOS Big Sur constantly logging and transmitting user’s usage data. Unencrypted.
‘ad experiences’ at consumers since Microsoft’s Internet Explorer in 1993 lol
They often claimed it was for waterproofing, but we know that is a lie as a few manufacturers maintain the same ratings with the jack intact.
I also never asked for my TV to be its own set-top-box and demand an always-on internet connection to beam ads at me from the menu.
I'll have to think about it some more. I'll get back to you.
Assume some users will be intelligent.
Assume some users will not be.
To make sure your product has the highest satisfaction, you have to assume all are not intelligent, as the intelligent ones will work around inconvenient attributes, while the others are stuck.
It took one guy with a shoe bomb.

A derivative from the petroleum industry, it was heavily marketed as a cheap miracle product to replace natural wood, metals, and glass.
Obligatory: delete your Facebook, instagram, messenger, and x accounts and apps. Leave a review about your feelings.
Even if you do not use your accounts, they make money off them. Delete them.
Belonged only to the wealthy minority, who successfully lobbied city govts in the closing years of the 19th century to deregulate rules on their use, and then to begin urban planning with solely cars use in mind. Faced massive popular push-back; city govts listened to the rich guys.
Microsoft? And Apple. It’s the forced “benefits” that I have the hardest time with.
Between 3D movies and 3D TV, there was definitely a period of going, who is asking for this and, must the rest of us also put up with it?
This is obviously its biggest detriment to twitchy shareholders and Apple Nerds who want it to take over their lives. It literally does nothing.
I forget it’s there most of the time.
But I have an example: the content sorting and filtering algorithms in social media was pushed on users in much the same way, and with even more resistence as far as I can judge.
It caused international issues.
And U2's album being forced onto iPhones was a much bigger issue than "apple intelligence".
Copilot or something.
