AI feels like a real mania, a genuine collective break from reality among the ruling class. They might as well be pouring billions of dollars into an attempt to replace all jobs and knowledge with a large bronze idol of Dagon.

It is all very convincing when you first look at it from afar but doesn't stand up to any scrutiny.
It offers easy answers to hard questions and the people running it know it's a con.
its a lot more future-proofed than all these statues of racism guys we have now
1. They don't understand what the technology actually *does*.
2. They *do* understand that it can replace paid workers, and that means cut costs/greater profits.
3. That leads them to talk up AI to other elites, who buy into the hype. And the cycle repeats.
Bronze art deco Lovecraft themed remodel of Wallstreet, yeah it's still wasting money, but replacing the wall street bull with an ever hungry kraken would just be on the nose.
Its very slimming.
As for the ruling class - for them AI is like a little personal ass licker they dont need to pay - its an ego thing that lets them pretend they are informed
We end up in BRAZIL, a world where the ruling class is safe and everyone else deals with a world where nothing quite works, and sometimes it even explodes, which you then blame on terrorists
Enter the ridiculous computational requirements of training LLMs
Especially since these guys are largely lucky mediocrities.
Now, the money is already spent.
We may be able to form some kind of guild, but that can get convoluted and is probably not as strong.
How would you design the perfect social economy
Thays the kind of answer you'd get
👊 We are forming a union for the purposes of standing together to bargain for better wages, working conditions, and benefits. 💫
⚒️We believe workers should work for themselves. ⚒️
(Sorry I can’t pretend to be ChatGPT anymore, it’s making me kinda sick.)
That’s what needs to happen.
You get a cookie!
(I'm joking. I think.)
They like THIS "AI", because they can tell it what to do. And because not enough people are suing for theft yet.
And what we're referring to as AI now isn't even an AI, it's just a flashier algorithm than we're used to seeing.
What a twisted, nasty worldview. Utterly devoid of humanity or sense.
—Sam Altman, probably
It's gambling. Plus the belief that if enough of them push the product, it will magically be a success.
A certain technology is being prescribed, often over the protests of the people who best understand how it works. It's buck wild.
But the AI hype is happening at a MUCH larger scale. It’s like every company bought into it and is now trying to make it work.

I remember Dagon falling when blind Samson pushed it down!
That guy retired 2 years ago
They have now hired extra humans to deal with the problems resulting, costing more money than just doing it the old way.
Ehhh... Close enough.
up until now we've been insulated from the level of consensus reality they've been operating on
(you'd be wrong, but the state of our politics is such that people might still take you seriously if you did)
but the terrifying thing is, he is far from unique
i think the entire ruling class is more like him than not; they just aren't addicted to demonstrating the fact 24/7 like he is
