Seen a few people saying "If you have to explain the joke then maybe it's not funny :/" and I don't think that's a viable standard on this particular website

sometimes i think it’s funny when you DO explain the joke without anyone asking. like if it’s only a meh joke & no one laughs but you go over the top with the GET IT? SEE WHAT I DID THERE? & you make yourself laugh a lot in the process & it’s really annoying, kind of like what i am doing in this rep
I didn't know you even wrote things on here I just like the picture. Oh wait that's what this is. You do what I'm doing. Huh. Learn new things about this site every day.
You simply need to subscribe to the jksky labelling system and label each joke with the appropriate genre and approach to humor. Once you've done that, people will be able to tell that you're just being a silly little guy doin' a bit, a quippy quipper, or Type-3 Snarker and react appropriately.
That’s not really true if it’s on text based media, hard to really fully display nuance, tone, depth of a statement or joke when the person is reading it in their own internal voice and not listening to you say it.

I don't understand. 🧐 Some of us get the joke; some of us don't and may need an explanation. Most of your posts, I get. Some, .. well. .. we don't get all. Keep on giving us something to think about! Thanks! 🥰
Being six weeks into a college course and the professor says something that makes you breathe softly out of your nose but you can’t explain it to your friends is peak humor, to me
When you make humor for neurodivergent people at least half the audience won't get the joke immediately and another half of the remaining half has constructive criticism immediately after you deliver the punchline.
Too many folks flocking in from dying platforms where either (1) good jokes just weren’t being told, or (2) where intentionally not getting a joke to “score points” is acceptable. Been blocking my way back into a smaller circle of high quality goofs for a while now.
This response is 😁. What if, ? What has become of us? My prayer: God, you have seen this shit before. Can you help us overcome, please. 🙏 But, too many of my own years and knowing history, humankind has not changed. Same sh*t, different day.
A lot of people read, think "wait, that can't possibly be true", and jump right past, "this person must be joking" to "this fool has no idea he's spreading misinformation!"
Yeah, I wasn't sure if it was a fake screenshot or them printing a funny troll, but I was going insane reading the replies to that and everyone was taking it seriously
Conversely, I just reply-guyed someone who was either joking or having phone trouble, and turns out they were having phone trouble. Look the Internet is hard ok
He’ll always be that man in his mid-30s crashing through the ceiling of a suburban home and refusing to share Bagel Bites with the children living there to me
Maybe, I mean like he looks older but he’s also clearly the same guy. Like some people age in ways that might mean you don’t recognize them after a gap of a decade or two but Tony Hawk is not one of those people.
in episode 3 or 4 of the television sensation UNDER THE DOME (whichever episode was the last one my wife and I watched) a background character in a bar in a town that's been under a dome for at least a week at this point exclaims "wait -- we're under a DOME!?"
This reminds me of a corollary rule of comedy. If you want to know if someone has a good sense of humor, just ask them if they do. If they say “yes,” they don’t.
People complaining about the quality of the replies here (valid, working on it), but it's a two way street: big accounts haven't come up with a real banger skeet yet either. Where is the bluesky shrimp fried rice? Huge rewards for the skeeter who can crack the code
See, folks, the joke here is that a lot of jokes on this website actually do require some explanation, so claiming that explaining jokes keeps them from being funny is incompatible with Bluesky's collective sense of humor.
I actually really like when someone explains a joke to me and almost every time (as long as it's not something mean) I actually think it's funny and I don't feel like it's ruined by an explanation.
I don't know why people always say it's like dissecting a frog.
Having joined this place slightly reluctantly, this issue is one of the reasons I’m not really getting it. Since social media is no longer social, I want it to at least make me laugh, and not try to make me feel guilty for laughing.
"Well, it all began with a Sumerian fart 'joke' (or 'jest') around 2300 BCE, you see, and the ancient Greeks believed that the balance of bodily 'humors' controlled human emotions..."
Not on any website. Sometimes the audience is just not able to get many levels of humor. Some people only laugh at funny home videos, but struggle to understand thought provoking jokes where the punch line "is" the joke and the lead up to that punchline will make you mad or nervous. still funny.
A Jewish comedian dies and goes to heaven.
Jehovah asks him to tell a joke, so the comedian tells a holocaust joke.
“I don’t think that’s funny.” Says Jehovah.
“Well, maybe you had to be there.” Replies the comedian.

Comedy is dead, we peaked at Family Guy.

but srsly as an accessibility thing that's where you click if you don't get the joke and need it explained.
That's part of why it's a crucial accessibility tool

If ydk then hey. We might be laughing at YOU.
Comedy is fucking wild. There's no rules, just guidelines.
This my version of Luther's, *Here I stand*.
As a professional jokeoligist, I think we should be holding the joke writing community to higher standards.
In this essay I will
