I know I’m an annoying broken record about this but if anyone out there seriously believes the US will no longer have competitive elections I am happy to place a large bet against that.

Garry Kasparov is right, I’m afraid: they are breaking everything so quickly even though it’s unpopular, because they never expect to face real elections again.

If this “if then” hypothesis is supported, then elections are no longer competitive.
There are a many ways to mess with elections and many of them have been employed before. The election in 2000 even got de facto stolen by SCOTUS. You should at least be concerned
... and that seems right? Because how do you take office and immediately commit countless crimes and destroy basic public goods unless you (cont)

I hope you’re right. I fear you’re not.
you are not going to have free & fair competitive elections in your future. because that’s not how fascism works. anyone who believes otherwise is hiding their head in the sand
I don’t know what precisely is going to happen but the rate at which this administration is breaking norms should be alarming.
Except that one time where they ordered the vote count stopped and had a riot to install a bush.
Or one time when they had coup to stop certification of the election by storming the house.
Would those situations count as ‘competitive’?
How'd you get your job? 😂
It came down to one person doing the right thing on January 6th to prevent an overthrow of that election. There are no devoted Americans like Pence in this administration, only loyalists.
“We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it."
The courts do. But they rely on executive branch enforcement.
The military does. But their top brass and lawyers have been replaced with loyalists.
USPS control is enough to swing most close elections.
Small sample of election maladies: gerrymandering allows parties to choose voters 800k felon can't vote in FL, despite 65% approving ballot measure in '18; the voting rights act was strangled by the Supreme Court
T aims to widen these fault-lines
What are you a professor of, naval gazing?
Key word being AFTER.
Hello! Americans handed them power AFTER they refused to cede it. Therefore, they will never leave. They ALREADY demonstrated they don’t respect the will of the voters. So they won’t going forward.
the next Coup Attempt will have 95%+ R support
“There’s not going to be a pool, you stupid slut. There won’t even be a house”
Not a good time to make bets that there will still be free and fair elections.
you don't need to bother with the violent coup part
if you don't rig elections and just try to self-coup that's a different problem
lmao
If no one else can help...
and if you can find them...
Maybe you can hire,
THE PARLIAMENTARIAN!
*Competitive meaning whatever I need it to mean in order to win the bet.
Your whole upbringing and socialisation makes you unable to anticipate this systemic change. Be less complacent.
I'll place a large wager with you that future elections will be less competitive than they were.
It's just not now
When we need these numbers
But patience will be rewarded
