Duffy: "She wants to take people off the road and she's taxing people to do it, raising money for the subway system in New York. But then, to put people in the subway -- the subway is dirty! There's violence. There's criminals. It's not safe ... By the way, I like freedom. Let me drive my car."

It is that he doesn't have to share personal physical space with other subway riders.
He's afraid of city *people*, who he and his audience view as dangerous, dirty, and beneath him, and he'll tolerate any inconvenience to avoid them.
Give them all those Iron Man suits and they might take the subway. Or spacesuits. Anything to block stranger cooties, basically.
As someone who grew up in MI and moved here, I had that same thinking…for a week over 20 years ago.
Driving in a dense city is *theoretical* freedom but in practice it’s oppression. Meaningful freedom is walking, biking and regular public transit.
The whole car thing is a microcosm of political philosophy, and political theology too.
These same folks voting in Scotty Wanker is why there's no light rail connecting Madison to Milwaukee, and it's obvious the old GOP "beware the scary Black people" trick is still making the rounds.✌🏻
Part of it is that places you can actually live without a car are so few that demand for them is very high. If we had more proper cities it would be more surmountable as an issue
The air is fresh, warm & organic
Me: can you imagine being in a car right now?
Her: that would be crazy
Having to be stuck in traffic every day IS freedom to the right, because the thing restricting them isn't a person or institution with a name.
Be sure to actually ask their income; rich people love saying they're 'middle class' in america without saying how much they actually make.
The only time they ever feel at peace is when they're behind the wheel of their super-duty pickup truck, alone; or maybe with their woman.
(Jkjkjjkjkjk please don't come for me)
My sister lives in suburban NC. It takes about the same amount of time to get to the grocery store, but getting in the car, driving, and finding parking feels like so much more time spent.
City driving is freedom if your definition of freedom is your ability to freely asset you are better than others
Pics or it didn't happen.
Very American.
now, is the subway still too expensive for some people? sure, absolutely. but let's be clear that driving is in no way a meaningfully affordable alternative for them.
You will spend way more than 6 dollars on gas, loan, insurance, and time . If your employer doesn't just give you a commuter card
Oh he meant people like him with drivers should be able to be driven about. He’d never take the subway to meet “Real Americans”.
Getting mad over a thing that doesn’t impact him at all.
Congestion charges are the centrist position if anything, Paris did a thing to ban driving a car with even number or odd plates every other day. That's the left wing position
Paying a tax to import a Nintendo Switch: freedom, not a tax actually a tax cut, beautiful, very strong
(Btw, huge fan of yours)
most of them, at some level, know who and what they are and part of their awful behavior is about not feeling it
