SLURM is the Simple Linux Utility for Resource Management. It is used to basically schedule some big load of computing jobs and collect the results. K8s is the nickname of Kubernetes, which is a tool that is used to wrap up computing jobs so that they can be run on virtual computers.
seeing this get a lot of traction, so just wanna clear things up. per there website: Soperator is A Slurm-based workload manager for ML and HPC clusters with a modern and simplified user experience.
working in that industry since 1997 and since decades i see people "inventing" stuff that brings nothing but additional layers, acronyms and complexity.
And in hiring people are expected to be experts in something that will be irrelevant in 3 days
At least soperator k8s slurm sounds somewhat funny
I think the resurgence of HTMX and stuff moving server side is a sign that many missteps were made in the JS ecosystem. I have noticed myself being more and more skeptical of new hotness the further I go into my career.
This meme hits so hard. I worked at an agency that seemed to change productivity tracking vendors every couple of months and we tracked all our our time simultaneously through three apps with stupid names.
My office is literally the XKCD comic about USB standards. Every year some director decides it’s time for the whole company to finally unify on a single ticket tracking system instead of using three different ones. And then we end up using four different ticket tracking systems.
I sorta kinda don't think you're being completely honest? If you look into your memory bank, dont you remember something? Maybe a distant uncle, Kube R'Netes, Kub Ernetovic, something? I feel like you aren't even trying!
If you call a Kubernetes pod a virtual machine on Reddit they’ll rip you a new one but this only matters if you care about the opinions of Redditors that know about Kubernetes

(Sorry. Low-hanging fruit, but someone had to).
Call a Bondulance.

Your Slurms and your K8s do not much please
Your nebius is nebulous
Your soperator is a slop generator
Please stop, I beg you on my knees
K8S is Kubernetes, a way of scaling up servers
SLURM is a way of running / scheduling big complex jobs across a bunch of Linux servers
SOPERATOR combines them so you can scale your SLURM job thingy with Kubernetes
hilariously, I couldn’t find it, but did find more silly names in the process, like Bread and Flink
me: (bing) How does Slurm meet K8s?

pod holders can use multiple slurm juices on a single kubelet
More like bore-weave, if you ask me.
Slurm is what users talk to to ask for resources on the machine, and Slurm decides which of those users get to run when.
Yes, it's got the funny futurama name.
