Dear all foreign friends outside the United States,
Our country is big. Like really big. Like so much bigger than you ken. Our states are bigger than many countries, and there's 50 of them.
So when you wonder why we are not all marching on DC
I live 2,500 miles (4000 km) from the White House

Americans are protesting, every single day. You're just not seeing it.
Tesla protests are effective because that's much more accessible AND in highly visible locations by design. And they're every day.
He’s getting frustrated so we know it’s working.
You will have to march on DC. There's no way around it. But yes, I agree, start locally; until you know you CAN get millions to DC.
But it has to happen. And the sooner, the better.
Many work multiple jobs to pay rent & bills. Majority of the US live hundreds - thousands of miles away. Travel is a luxury here.
Who is gonna pay for us to all get there, stay, get meds & food?
The entire system has been stacked against people for 40 years. The folks who can afford A vacation with stay and food and taking off work are rich
None of this is 'and this is why we're helpless' but rather, this is why this specifically isn't a good suggestion or the great idea you seem to think it is.
PROTESTS we're doing. Organized boycotts, doing. Writing, calling, doing. General strike is
People are doing a lot. We scream it's not enough because it's not enough and we do need more.
But this idea is crappy for many reasons that being a big reason. More you know 'n shit.
Get to DC *if you can*
Otherwise, just go SOMEWHERE
Make sure nobody near you can claim they didn’t know what was happening.
Keep going and they’ll all keep growing.
The Target boycott that Black leaders called for weeks ago has been extremely effective but is getting much less attention.
Here’s one today.
April 5th? All over Oregon. Beaverton will have Mayor, Count commish, Rep. Bonamici. 200 signups.
I'm sorry for how much abuse you're getting over explaining this.
I do understand why it sounds like excuse-making to many at arm's length from the US, whose (accurate) observation is that the Trump regime is moving faster, hitting harder, and racking up more wins than any resistance to it…
…from within, despite repeated self-soothing insistence that "we're doing all we can."
People don't recognize that not everybody's resistance role looks the same. Joe Soldier on the Normandy Beaches was fighting the Nazis—but so was Ethel who babysat Rosemary's kids so she could go make rivets.
https://handsoff2025.com/?SQF_SOURCE=indivisible
Protesting Musk like he was the Trump administration is intensely stupid.
If you look at a map of the US, Chicago is only about 1/3 of the way across the country. Maybe. I'm not gonna look up more stuff now.

The Tahrir Square model DOES.
Don't use distance as an excuse, that's a cop-out.
340 million in USA for a country 9,833,520 square kilometers. Very low public transport, only effective in some major cities.
Please stop acting like these situations are similar.
That means either 1. car or 2. air travel.
Both are expensive. Both assume you can arrange accomodations and food.
I literally couldn't go to DC no matter how much I wanted to.
Essentially the same land mass (though Hawai’i is rather more isolated in the pacific, and Alaska to the north.)
And our population is 350 vs 450 million.
Boycotts work!
As someone outside of America though, and being threatened with annexation, the wonder is why this didn't start the day Merrick Garland said he wouldn't prosecute. Or the day the Supreme Court ended Dobbs, or Obergefell, or gave him immunity.
I know you folks know this, but it took so many lives and so many harms before people freaked out.
There's also a large subsection of people unable to protest due to job related reasons. (While it's allowed on personal time, if I were arrested, I would lose my job and everything else, even if *not* convicted.)
And other subsection physically unable to protest because disabilities.
They already won. You are scared into submission due to some hypothetical job loss.
Meanwhile, the people of Türkiye today, the people of Iran for many months, face actual torture and murder and still protest against their governments.
Protests are happening on different days of the week. Everyone probably has one day a week off. Masks are still legal in most states.
This control vanishes when it all comes apart. What rent. In 2 weeks, what job?
This is existential, folks 🇨🇦 🇺🇸
Our police is extremely violent too which isn’t something most countries deal with either
Not in this economy.
Doesn't have connections close to most people.
Is expensive.
Public transport in this country is nonexistent compared to Europe.
It’s ~$600 RT from L.A. to D.C but that’s in Coach so you’re sitting upright for close to 70 hrs.
Also riders in most regions sadly can’t rely on their trains getting them anywhere on time.
Weren't there 200 Tesla protests yesterday?
That is definitely a large protest.
We also need to be at Mar-a-Lago. Especially for weekend marches. Disturbing his peace is necessary and he isn't in DC on weekends.
We need better coverage of them to show others what’s happening.
Which is why spreading them out and effecting as many people as possible is very useful to the messaging
So the info is out there. It seems they’re just choosing not to cover it properly.
But I do think eventually they will when marches are big enough. Or I hope 😑
I wish I could go.
It was exhausting, but it was the only way that my friends and I could go. Travel is expensive.
You are correct that local protests are easier to organize.
#SupportDemocracy
Plus there’s the whole shooting and running over protestors with cars and the disappearing people off the street in broad daylight.
Population of Istanbul: 15 million.
Population of Washington DC: 700,000. About twenty times less.
For a rally close to you:
https://www.fiftyfifty.one/events
Find a way to be seen and counted. That won't happen in this echo chamber.
It's going on all over the country.
The people are pissed.
But, there are over 6 million people living in the DC area, so if you count the 30 million in NY/Jersey, I’ll bet a million person march is doable.
No matter how small your contribution, it’s worthy.
Canada and the States... we are not the same.
I'm just asking everyone to show up where they can. Line the highways if you have to.
#HandsOff
#TakeOurCountryBack
But someone must live near to DC ... ?
America did this to itself. Get off the phone and get into some good trouble.
americans will have to get kicked to the ground before they understand that this shit what a serious!
It’s only 1800 miles from London to Moscow.
All the protest organizers need to get together to come up with a collaborative strategy to maximize the number that come out - somewhere the media can’t ignore.
April 5th is an opportunity for millions at each location to come out
It’s focused & w/ enough people taking part, it makes an impact
But if some boycott Walmart & others target then nothing happens b/c customers just swapped where the shopped
Boycott the brands buying ads at WH egg roll - easy for people to do
Expect the best
France has asked all their citizens to stick up and have a 72 supply of water and food
The worst may never come but it might
Also, here are a couple of useful books that might help give you some direction.
We can bring them down with pinpointed nonviolent strategies. It takes brilliant planning and implementation; however, nonviolent resistance is more than twice as effective as armed conflict.
https://www.cornellpress.cornell.edu/book/9781501756061/pranksters-vs-autocrats/
I strongly recommend it to anyone who who looking for nonviolent strategies with proven effectiveness.
They ignore everyone political
All anyone had to know about Kamala Harris is that she wasn’t Donald Trump. It was an easy decision they decided it wasn’t important enough to get to the polls and vote.
They are the ones who will be shocked when they’ve lost something
Job
Freedoms
Friends
You can email journalists to tell them it’s happening and you’d like to see them there - email are usually on their articles
Get local media out
You need a big Social media blitz w/ lots posts, a hashtag & engagement to go viral
Send images to big news outlets w/ story
Which is why organizing a boycott against the brands that advertise at the WH egg roll are effective
They are not doing anything that will come back on them
Puts pressure on those with power to put pressure on those with more power
my nearest city (Syracuse) has had protests at least 2x a week since January, a few the protests have ended up on MSNBC and local news and that's it.
The only remaining question is whether the military will side with us or Elon Musk.
Old age makes previous militants whimpish. I hate it. I want to go out into the streets and walk a hundred miles, screaming for our country, getting people out into the streets to make sure they understand we are under attack from within!
Healthcare systems manage.
("marches on Washington" are ~more~ common than on other capitals)
I live in a state (Colorado) where about 85% of the population lives in a band about 75 mi (120 km) wide by 150 mi ...
And it isn't the answer to the op's question, because the premise is false.
Its easy to say this is vital enough to sacrifice your job and well-being to march across the country. Doing it is another story.
Sadly, many don't care until it affects them directly.
It will have to get to a point where they have nothing left to lose.
It's a harmful mess when we're talking about addiction (the "rock bottom" myth), and it's a harmful myth in politics.
it's like we are witnessing the "First They Came" poem in real time. the govt is literally disappearing people in the streets, but those who are not yet affected are saying "soz, i can't take a day off work to protest."
once they are personally feeling the discomfort, it's TOO LATE!!
If someone want to help folks get to DC, that would help.
There's a reason they keep us tied to our jobs.
People are so bogged down just trying to live that many aren't even aware of the destruction being done to our democracy.
Msm isn't telling them, even if they do watch the news.
Get out and protest or call, write emails, send letters, etc!
Protest at local TV and Radio stations. What is the most popular radio station near you.
Just NBC affiliates

(We know it’s Jack shit)
What did *you* do to combat the freedumb convoy in Ottawa?

Plan a date in advance. Protest at your state capital city OR Washington. Need a day of action with crowd size that can't be ignored. Like the 2017 march.
People are protesting all over the country, especially at Tesla dealerships bc well, Leon, and at state capitals. Media isn't covering them.
...where we can walk down the street without fear of being kidnapped, shot by a white nutjob with a tiny penis and a massive inferiority complex...
Yes, things are getting way out of line, but we are protesting and more importantly, the courts are holding the line on his unconstitutional orders. So far, he hasn't starting killing the people his thugs kidnap.
Incidentally I have a mate who has an hours drive, 72 miles, from his front gate and mailbox to his front door.
Everyone and anyone (in the world) can and should join us. What is happening in the U.S. is affecting the whole world!
I have twice so far.
Some people post, if you wondered what Germans did in the 1930's, you are doing it now.
My coworkers haven't understood - and think I now have a mental issue. It seems pretty serious to me losing our Democracy.
We have to rebel every way we can.
🚬😎
Good for you!!!
We are being called by America's forefathers to stand up against an unwelcome king.
🚬😎
So many reasons to fight tyranny. The important thing is we fight, fight, fight. And when we get tired someone else steps up, and we keep going until we win.
🚬😎
You're doing the right thing!
also it’s hella expensive lol
Imagine flying from Barcelona to Stockholm to protest.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=294-t2aTvzA&pp=ygULSW5kaXZpc2libGU%3D
No one would be able to move because all the streets would be full of protesters
If 20% of people close to LA showed up in LA - same thing too many to ignore
But 20% of 🇺🇸are not pissed off enough to show up
Read the previous post
I personally don’t think protests will work. They didn’t work last time around
Protest leaders came together to develop a strategy encompassing
Boycotts
Social media
Letters to the editor
Large festival like events
Relationships w reporters
You don’t have to travel thousands of miles. Do it locally, get whatever is left of your local media covering the story, increase the pressure on reps in your own back yard. Send the message to your neighbors.
it IS going more slowly than i would like but it's also i think a bigger process than even we think.
we're also something like 350M population. the population of California is about the same as that of Canada as i recall
that's a lotta ppl to organize
and in the usa we have this self-image of a free democracy etcetc, however risible that is to assorted minority or marginalized groups, that makes it hard to think we wouldn’t simply snap back after a corrective election or two
Our media is also refusing to acknowledge that we are in a coup led by DJT and his regime.
That would be like writing my own arrest warrant.
Sorry guys, we have enough of own problems, you need to step up and defend your own democracy.
I'm sorry my words were rather intemporate and hasty. I'm just so angry with what's happening to your country.
Thank you for your empathy.
And you think all Americans are uneducated 🙄
Look I get America is being a real piece of shit to the rest of the world, but a little empathy from said world for the people who've done what they need to and continue to be a voice of resistance would be nice.
suddenly you want to promote yourselves as being the caring nation..
The MAGA crowd thinks empathy is a sin. I wish I was joking. They protested a sermon where Trump was urged to be more empathetic. MAGA congregants complain about Jesus’ words in The Sermon on the Mount prompting weakness.
Now they are killing foreign aid AND targeting basic safety net programs. They never did care. It’s all for rich people
They can’t imagine autocracy here until someone they know is affected.
Biden, Obama, Schumer, ect. None of them seem to care all that much. We get excited over Buttigieg doing a TikTok about what’s happening, because everyone at the top is silent.
AOC, Walz, and Bernie at least try.
AOC and Bernie are leading the charge right now. We need more actual ranking people doing much more.
It's ridiculous even our own "party" is doing less than we are.
Dem bashers keep complaining about too many old folks in power, AND demanding those same leaders take charge of the resistance. Make up your mind.
The PEOPLE are leading the resistance. Stop demanding Biden, Obama & Schumer do for us what we can do for ourselves.
They have the most access to national media and most name recognition because of the offices they have held. If they don’t use them, it would have been infinitely better for them to let other people pursue those offices.
I must however tell you that I used to admire and respect the USA. Now I pity it.
And that’s really not a good position to be in at all. 😳
Get out and save your country!
As a Canadian, we (or I) understand the logistics of planned protests in the U.S.
They knew how to fight Nazis, and were all prepared to pay the price if it came to it.
Last time a million women marched. They they trashed women's rights.
Republicans don't care unless it costs them money and power.
Boycotting companies who donated to Trump, those brands who buy ad space at the White House egg roll, those celebrities who endorsed him, those who visit MarALogo
Protest organizers need to come together and create a strategy to tell people which brands to avoid
Example. For those who voted for and still support Trumpism, there has to be a social cost. They need to be shunned. That's bigger than protest. Called out. Disinvited.
It will take losing jobs, businesses, homes, before enough Americans wake up and show up
Germany - Hot Red
Media will rush over when the govt sics the brown shirts, LEOs and military on the people.. bc news
😒
Yes many are happening, but the difference is the 'who'. Just think back, the only time (except ♀️ march '17), you last saw media wholly present is when Black people led.
But Americans quickly move on.
Not an opinion.. this is a fact. Now they insult us by dismantling everything incl voting!
No more standing in the gap. The law & order folks will have to decide how to fight against 'their own' now.
This time the front lines will have to be you.
It will take a minute.. but white people best pay attention!
Black people ain't fighting w/ them. This is THEIR fight now!
The minute people of color, [esp Black ppl] show up, it'll be on & poppin!! We know it already. So our assignment is diff now..
👉🏾we have line dances to learn by summer time!
Give your local college journalism students a chance to interview off-campus folk, whether for newspaper, radio, TV, or online media.
Tip off your local public radio & television to planned events near the state capitol or the campus housing the stations.
Things will need to get much much worse before that happens.
I'm not saying noone is doing it. But the rule of thumb is you need a third of the population taking action before things change.
But a bunch of others were saying 25%.
I’m pretty sure it’s lower than most think.
be interesting to count up total counts for protest on same day for example...
my one month train pass in Italy, which allowed me to go anywhere and also gave me a discount when leaving Italy, was about 50% of the price of a one week one- zone SEPTA pass, which only allowed travel within the city of Philadelphia...
so, no..we don't have trains.
from the company's own doctor...since he was a probationary employee, this was grounds to fire him.
That’s what we need to be hollering about.
The lack of coverage gives cover to Schumer and other Dems telling folks that when they show up they’ll get behind them.
The Democratic Party is not the people. They are wimpy as hell. We’re trying to energize them, too.
On January 21 2017 over 200k marched in DC. Now suddenly it's too much of a burden.
It's hard to reconcile what's (not) happening in the US with anything other than widespread apathy.
I have noticed a lot more older white women at these protests, which police are not as likely to get physical with.
Check to see what's happening in your state.
Amazon and Tesla boycotts and demonstrations are happening in the U.K.
We petition against a state visit.
We report on what you are doing.
Our activist groups (Led by Donkeys, Paper Revolution) are there pushing it for all of us.
🧵
And look at @paperammunition.com and get some ideas.
Yes! We have absolutely free posters you can print! Always free! No ads on the site. Steal our ideas!
I haven’t used Amazon in the U.K. for a couple years (the treatment of staff and particularly delivery companies is appalling). And it honestly never flags up as an option any more.
But more than that - we don’t need this stuff. We really don’t.
Travel to the US is down over 70%
Please also support the massive protests in Georgia, Serbia, Slovakia and other countries where people are standing up against fascism. Even if just by (re)posting about the protests.
We're wondering why you're not marching IN EVERY CITY IN AMERICA.
Meh. It's a lot of effort, I know. Who has the energy for all that? Maybe just stay home, yeah? Post on social media instead. It'll be good enough, I'm sure.
Those are a few reasons.
This isn't some "normal" situation where you all have time to build up speed. This has to happen YESTERDAY. It's probably already too late.
And yet, shockingly, guilt-tripping people into action continues to remain ineffective as an organizing tactic.
I just happen to have eyes in my head.
Stop pissing on our legs & telling us all it's raining.
Trump has been in control for months now, & the US population is passively allowing it all to happen.
You get no "kudos" for anything. You've done nothing yet.
YOU are doing something, sure. Overall? Americans are doing FUCK ALL.
Love, a Canadian 💜
Take good care, and stick together. There is incredible power in a coordinated group. I'll be sending all my support from here, as its simply too dangerous to cross the border for us right now.
😂
They're the size of Maryland. Without the misshapen geography and the Bay driving up into it. Things are much more manageble with small nations.
the just Call in the CAF or NATO or UN we got 50 000KG bomb to spare ...
The US w/ 340 million people Iives on roughly 3.8 million square miles.
Germany for example has a population of 89 million and lives on only 138 thousand square miles - the size of Montana.
You don't teach about the War of 1812, Vietnam was a "police action," and any spin that makes the US look less than great is spun.
We learn about our war crimes in WWI, the residential school system & all the ways we sucked so we don't do it again.
Libraries are free. Oriel do not want to learn. They think they know it all already. Don’t be go light on them/us.

He is probably using russia and then will likely turn on russia.

And flying into Denver is one of the most depressing things I’ve experienced in a long time. Culture-free suburbs of dirt nothing as far as the eye can see in every direction, and then, mountains. Feh. 🫥😵💫😵
BEAUTIFUL landscapes.
I wonder how some of those folks in the backside of bumf*ck tRUMPistan make a living (or even buy essentials) since some are so far out, the Post Office can't fine them!
So it def makes sense to do D.C., then the center of the country, and the west coast.
I just like to imagine the millions of people in one place at one time, for one reason! Lol
Because if you don’t, you’re as geographically challenged as some Europeabrain who asks why we don’t just take overnight high-speed rail for both legs of the trip.
I mean, jeez, my apologies for dreaming about millions of people coming together. I take it you ignored my other comment! Smdh
Our country is really big. So much bigger than you ken. Our states are bigger than many countries, & there's 50.
So when you wonder why we are not all marching on DC

Too long to walk & flying is no longer safe !
Or are disabled and can't protest for some other reason or both.
Learn to ignore what doesn’t apply to you.
Didn't you all have a vote?
I respect the people who voted Harris, but my respect ends there.
What they did with the vote is another matter.
Obviously, you're amongst the one who I respect.
I wish we could go to a compulsory voting system. Especially the Australian one. I want a free sausage with my vote.
117 million did not vote in 2016.
Even though 81 million is still a lot, you see the Democrat gets in once more people get off their ass.
-You know Donald83274, we live in a big country, and it was inconvinient to travel.
You gotta convert for them, seems like only 1% of the world still using Imperial (seems red flag enough, eh?) Measurements would be cause enough for concern

When I protest, IF I take photos (which I tend not to do) I do not POST PHOTOS bc they can be used as evidence against those attending.
I suggest others be just as careful.
Plus in some of the countries people are citing to go "hey America, what about this" protests succeeded because
A long-term protest movement jats not just paidmin a few major centers would probably do more then some one big march in Washington
I guess it's time for us to accept that we're the only trustworthy media now...
The dismantling of our govt is exactly what we are trying to prevent. It's not theatrical, true, but our means need to align with our ends.
We need to keep protesting.
But protests are not the most effective action to strengthen rule of law at this moment.
Trade them for the hostages they have of ours.
Arrest DOGE members, Musk, anyone the courts already ruled as being criminal.
Our politicians and police have failed us.
Justice is in our hands now.
But people are angry. We will keep fighting. And then will we owe a ton of people apologies.
And yes, I’m concerned they may use protests as an excuse to kill us
Trump put Flynn in charge of West Point, the officer cadet training school, they're changing the indoctrination drill from 'Respect and obey the Constitution' to 'Forever obey Trump and only Trump'
The logic falls apart under scrutiny, as usual.
I have Type 1 diabetes (my pancreas can’t make insulin) and I am afraid I will die if I am jailed (I need constant access to insulin and sugar) but I am out there anyhow!

go do the american thing and drive a lot then shoot nazis with guns.
America is in such a pathetic state that Americans, the car people, cant buy cars.
Guess you have to car pool to the revolution lmao.
there's a tiny % of Americans who need a car but can't afford one, not sure what point you think you're making here
you're in a tiny group and while that's a good reason *for you* not to travel (like poverty and disability in general) it's not the case for the vast majority of left leaning people
They've held one day. April 5th is the next.
I guess not everyone takes that as seriously to heart though.
There's not enough money or planes to fly people in.
It is shorter to fly Perth to Singapore.
Los Angeles - NYC = 4000 km
Victoria - Halifax = 4500 km
People in Australia and Canada understand the size of the USA, and understand everyone isn't going to come together for a protest at once.
Even so, there have been huge protests in the USA in the past.
Many Americans get no paid leave, and many can be fired for taking paid leave.
my son was fired for using vacation days.
5 million square miles. 5000 miles of border.
Good luck herding and protecting.
Well, we helped, eventually. But Russia did the heavy lifting.
So did 27 million Russians, mostly civilians, not to mention many more afterwards thanks to Uncle Joe.
also we were not fighting fascism lol, we did not care about Jews or any other population being oppressed
It will take a lot of discomfort to get people mad enough to do something.
And I do believe it will get that bad.
But consider... 1/3 of eligible voters couldn't be bothered to fill out a form to stop this shit from happening in the first place.

Fight like hell now
i've seen estimates as high as 25% if you include them
This takes a thing called "time", which means it does not happen instantaneously.
The repression of dissent is systemic.
In many ways it's like any other developing country, just with money.
No, it’s entirely shit.
Try to point it out here and it's a big headache.
Remember when Americans were saying that Russians were having "slave mentality" when they didn't go and storm the Kremlin?
How quickly the turns table.
Resist and organise everywhere.
If no one were willing to strike despite the risk of losing their job, there would be no labor rights and no universal health care *anywhere*
I don't even think you're a real person bc no one sane would actually tell someone to intentionally become homeless as quickly as possible. Goodbye, Russian bot.
2. No universal healthcare so our healthcare is tied to our jobs. It’s so expensive that one emergency will make you homeless.
3. At Will employment. You can be fired for any reason.
"Just raise millions of dollars to support it!"
People that think like this are so out of touch that they're useless. Noise on the internet for the rest of us trying to organize. My friend group must be affluent, because we pass around the same $25.
A general strike has to be organised; and if you call for it you have to be certain it will happen, or the ability to make it happen goes down.
Even if it's only 2.5 percent of the population that 7,500,000 people who have to buy in, and stay home.
Can't just say "General Strike on Monday". The scale is too great.
We are in a crisis. But opening/mid-game/end-game are not the level of threat, but the state of resistance.
To continue the chess analogy from which those terms come, you can't castle until you clear your back row; from king to rook.
If you rush, so you can castle, you risk losing early.
But, hard as people on BlueSky find it to believe, the general public is only know *starting* to see what's going on.
So the impetus for "bodies in the street" is still low.
I need some wine about it. No h, 🍷
The speed and scale and lack of subtly of the Trump regime is actually a huge advantage for us, and a huge error on their part.
