Anyone an expert in coffee futures and prices, that could comment on the impact of a 25 PCT tariff on Columbia on the price of coffee for American consumers ?

Colombia is also a leading supplier of flowers to the U.S. The country provided about 37% of U.S. cut flower and nursery stock value from 2018 to 2022. Rough time for Valentine, Easter and Mothers Day…
Colombia 3, Trump 0
1) Colombia & US, under Biden, didn't have issues. Agreements w/ countries is send the undocumented person back to native country,
2) No shackles & commercial plane (humane treatment),
3) No tariffs.
Colombia got what they wanted. Trump didn't get the "win" he thinks.
I haven’t read of a lot of migrant workers there. China owns Smithfield Farms, the largest pork producer in the world (here in VA) there have been huge fines in meat packing plants in several states for child labor though.
Did the avian flu just break out this past Friday? Or is it months old and only now are righties looking to the science after ignorantly complaining about the price of eggs? Come on man.
You assumed I was right leaning, not my fault. I am a nurse simply pointing out Trump isn’t responsible for prices of eggs. The poor bandwagon Dems attacked me as if I was Magahat all because I think misplaced blame is poor and hurts legitimate criticism.
Fair, I did. It was snarky, my bad. I read your other replies after my post and then this notification popped up but I couldn’t edit to change the tone.
I understand what you did and while you are correct in theory, I think the majority of MAGA asshats only understand the basics. They do not care about cause and effect and cannot separate legitimate criticism from misplaced blame. Just my two cents.
Avian flu was present and impacting flocks and egg supply, with dire warnings surrounding it, when Trump declared he'd have grocery prices down on day 1. It's not mine or anyone but Trump's fault that he speaks without being educated on matters. He said it, he owns it. Trump's failed promises.
Exactly as it was BEFORE the election when dindlehead was promising to lower the cost of eggs. The dindlehead’s crew blamed Biden somehow, yet NOW the exact reason stated before the election makes sense to you???
Plus they are shutting down the CDC and NIH, encouraging this thing to run wild.
Contrast to how Obama treated Ebola. It wasn’t even on our shores and he was cooking up defenses. We might have had an Ebola outbreak with this admin in charge.
??Why am I asking him? He doesn’t give a rats ass about anyone but himself. People need to fucking check themselves just because the price of eggs are high you can’t CRY OmG OmG it’s trumps fault. It equates you to the uneducated followers of his.
I knew it was avian flu before and now. It’s poor to blame him for prices of eggs. Poor optics for Dems. Stop assuming I’m on the right because I rather call him out for shit that is his fault.
The point I think you’re missing is WE all knew but that was the headline and the sound bite and the “let’s go Brandon” crowds justification for blaming Biden for prices so no, Trump and his admin can get the same blame even though it’s misguided so make it so! He owns it now.
I agree but long before the bird flu, eggs were on the climb and considered highly price gouged. the bird flu is causing a decline in sales and less product on the shelves so the demand isn’t there. High prices can be due to political agendas.
It is happening on Trump’s watch, and he has silenced the agency that would have collected and shared data on Bird Flu.
Didn’t you get the MAGA message-it is not a problem.
Doesn’t matter when you’re the tough guy that’s going to lower prices and instead make things horrible with every other country and increase our prices more.
We had a bird flu outbreak before and that’s the real reason egg prices were high. Now they are going up again due to another bird flu and now we have no oversight either.
Absolutely. But that didn't stop Chump from campaigning with promises to reduce prices on "day one." He has made multiple, devastating changes to health research and reporting, as well. I guess we're doing bleach injections for avian flu, too.
No shit. That’s what we were saying when Biden is president. Trump said he’d lower them. They just reached a record high. Still waiting on the end of Ukraine war in 24 hrs. And the healthcare plan.
The avian flu has been causing price increases around the world since last year. But tRump had everyone convinced it was Biden's fault. 🙄 People are so hoodwinked by the Republican a$$holes.
Yeah. But that's not what Trump said to get elected. Therefore, it's NOT bird flu. It's Trump's policies. And the prices of eggs will continue to rise until he sets those policies he promised when he was running. Stop flipping the narrative.
Trump said he was going to bring those prices down. I believe it was a campaign promise. He accused Ms Harris of being the cause of the prices of eggs going up, and he had the cure. So, don't come in here with your "facts" & "science". Sava those braintrust that is MAGAt.
Exactly this. Trump supporters didn’t want to hear that 2 million egg laying hens were killed to stop avian flu. That’s what drove up prices. But now that it’s happening under Trump it’s apparently not his fault. And, he’s doing everything to block information to his cult. The hypocrisy.
They can forgive Trump for anything. These are the same people who were saying that the pandemic years didn’t count when it came to the economy under Trump the first time around.
And so the logic of the opposition is to blame Trump for the price of eggs? Very mature, this will defeat him next election resorting to maga stupidity.
Right and doesn’t he want to pull out of WHO and completely ignore pandemics because they’re fake news manufactured by the left? It’ll only get worse and it’ll be 100% Trumps fault.
Maybe because legacy left media has no balls and handles republicans and trump with kid gloves. Instead focusing on labeling everything racist and sexist.
Come on man. Today they entered a resolution labeling Antifa a terrorist organization. Antifa means Anti fascist. They’re bold face liars. While you’re trying to protect him, he is trying to steal your democracy. If you don’t think that’s going to take you down you better think twice.
My grievance is orange man brought the price of eggs up in his campaign and made it a campaign issue. He never keeps any promises. If he is speaking, he is lying. That is how he works. He probably hasn’t had an honest sentence in his adult life. He’s such a liar. He’s a habitual liar.
Same thing happened last year and in 2023, too. Everyone blamed Biden, but the bird flu raged on. Trump said that if he won, egg prices and grocery prices in general would come down. Now he says "that it's gonna be hard to do." No shit!
He's an idiot.
He ran on lowering the price of eggs. Avian flu was well known as a likely problem the entire campaign. There are 2 options, either he knew and just lied when he said he could bring the prices down or he was oblivious of emerging threat. Dishonesty or Incompetence, you decide.
Why hasn’t Trump fixed it? He said he would bring down inflation, stop the war in Ukraine and Gaza on Day One so why not also stop avian flu? People voted for him because of those statements so he should be held accountable.
In counterpoint, fuck that noise. There were no such nuanced analyses when all the dumb bastards in the country were blaming high grocery prices on Biden. Fuck all the way off with that.
He's not addressing rising grocery and gas prices as well as knocked out world health organizations from providing public health updates bird flu is 2 mutations away from jumping to people 50%-60% mortality rate.
Nope it’s all Trump - when eggs were high under Biden it was avian flu but everyone blamed Biden - now same thing - Trump’s fault eggs are high, coffee high TRUMPS FAULT
Ha, wait until CRIMINAL DJTs 25% tariffs kick in and he starts rounding up those who actually voted for him into his concentration camps, who then will they blame!?
Seems to me the egg prices were Biden's fault until January 20th, when they suddenly became the fault of Avian Flu. Curious, eh? (I agree, it's Avian Flu, I'm just saying this president campaigned on lowering the damn price of eggs and people bought it hook, line, and sinker.)
Magas blamed Biden. I said fact. You ignorantly accuse me of giving the convicted felon a pass. You’re just as bad As MAGA. I am not a trump sympathizer. Stopping to MAGA logic isn’t going to help.
Are we about to have another pandemic, and because the fascist doesn't want you to know, no one will know, until a quarter of the people around you are dead?
Well here's the thing... I think we're being sarcastic a bit. We know Trump and Biden don't really affect the price so we're making fun if the dimwit trumpers.
Absolutely horrible!! When are the american people going to get it he doesn't care about them! He doesn't care if we die! He's planning on raping america of our money, and who cares if we die.
Exacly. We wring our hands about abortifacients that have been in use (safely) for a long time...but ignore the clear and present threat from infectious diseases (and encourage - yes encourage - people to drink raw milk (!!)) Yikes!
Sounds like the whole plan. People would be riled up about egg prices so let’s spread the virus and then people can’t authentically complain about the price of eggs and won’t know how it spread. Kind of like the wuhan lab situation that happened on his watch. ;)
Honestly, we may have a difficult time getting that sort of info too. MSM won’t report some stuff if it makes him look bad and the administration may drop reporting requirements. Hopefully some will not comply
I read earlier today that there is a big Tuberculosis outbreak in one of the states. It’s worrisome to know that the agencies that usually warns us about these things are under a gag order.
To which trump responded by freezing medical research and demanding that the CDC and health agencies stop communicating with the public. Stellar way to handle an outbreak and keep people safe, right? And nothing helps keep prices low like uncertainty and fear, right? Oh, the complete opposite.
So now the avian flu and mass culling of chickens is a positive excuse but 2 weeks ago when Biden was president it was unacceptable. You crazy ass Trumpsters ara so GD stupid!
Hearing them make that excuse for Donald, but ignoring that's why eggs went back up in the summer after dropping back down to a couple bucks is quite hilarious and infuriating - what is wrong in their head to ignore it was the same reason for Biden - hate, denial, cult brain?
The mass culling of chickens to prevent Avian flu from spreading began when Biden was president, but the masses blamed him for the resulting high prices so why does Trump, who promised the prices would go down get a pass?!?! Off topic, but relevant to his promises, has the war in Ukraine ended yet?
And MAGAs believed him. Blaming trump for price of eggs due to avian flu is idiotic. Furthermore, people against trump rallying that “Trump said he would….” Is cheap and weak. We know he’s lying moron.
More mismanagement and deregulation will fix it I’m sure. Stop carrying water for this clown show please. Regular people will pay the price for it all.
I don't. But Trump got elected by pretending to be the person who was going to MAGA, and promised to bring down prices. People voted for him because he lied.
Over the last 4 yrs there have been massive mysterious fires, destroying 100s of thousand chicken and bird flu causing 100s of thousands of chickens to be destroyed. Biden's failed economy was blame. The felonious anointed maga bastard god can carry the highest egg price mantle now.
OFHS, two things - 1st - If the immigrants being returned to Colombia were criminals that's a good thing. 2nd - Colombia is an allie so tone down the BS, Biden also returned immigrants without all the drama.
Trump’s threats toward US allies weakens US alliances and it plays into the hands of those who hate US alliances. Russia, China and Iran have Trump as their useful idiot, and he is too stupid to realize this and/or he really doesn’t care because he wants all attention on him no matter the damage.
Help Noble Bean create the ultimate coffee blend—crafted with your input! Answer our form it take (2min max) and join a community shaping the future of coffee. More people = better prices! be part of coffee history!
Mr. Cuban, no matter how hard I try none of my responses to you are posted. Hopefully this will work! You have the money to buy media outlets. It is critical that you do this now!! It might be our only hope to save our democracy!!! Please help!!!
Yes, that orange Rump has it out for us all. I am only speaking from an American perspective because I'm not informed enough to know how it would impact everyone. Sorry. If you have more info please share.
What will cost the taxpayer more? Housing, funding and supplying thousands of illegal migrants over the course of their life time or a potential 25% increase to their coffee prices for a short period of time? Try use logic instead of emotion.
Well, hopefully it won't come to that. It seems that that whole nonsense was squashed.
But then again with this motherfucker felon in Chief, you never know what may spark up next. 🙄
The price of Roses just went up just in time for Valentine’s Day. 2/3rds of Colombia’s cut flower exports are purchased by the USA. Roses being the big driver here and the majority of Roses we purchase here are from Colombia or Ecuador.
The coffee in Bogota really is the best in the world. It is my twisted hope that the meeting of Latin American leaders this week, will result in all South American countries coming together to retaliate against Trump. The land here is too beautiful for allowing any more conquistadors to control it.
1 of 2: Not an expert but I trade & it's a problem. Columbia produces ~25% of the coffee imported into the U.S. Obv prices would go up for the end-user probably upwards of 50% if they want their coffee to be Columbian, for all other coffee we'd still see at least a 35% increase to cover overhead.
Further, we'd see prices go up across the board, long-term, as other countries would charge more because the competition from Columbia would be much easier to fend off with the price-floor raised. Ultimately, it would hurt us, and Columbian producers, but may provide monetary gain to other countries
Maybe. Although Trump has personally, on film, said some pretty alarming things that seem to be eluding to Elon and some folks he knows helping to ACTUALLY rig the election. I’d ignore it, but the only time Trump tells the truth is by accident. It is alarming.
If you're trying to make editing marks so that your original comment would be in line with Standard Modern English you're still not there, sport.
I don't know much about tariffs, what I know is that capitalism is the thing killing our planet and our equality and it's what did in US democracy. ☭
Ain't capitalism grand?😄 You do have a point. However, gas prices are basically based on availability and price per barrel. Although lately, in my community, I've seen individual station prices differentiate by as much as $1 per gallon.
It's correct. They mean Columbia, Ohio.
They don't make stupid spelling mistakes on official documents of the President of the United States. These things get checked multiple times and sent to lawyers etc before release.
Or they used to when competent people worked in the White House.
And the ripple effect when you think about the number of different businesses that serve coffee. Not just restaurants and coffee shops, but also airlines, hotels, etc.
Tariff makes Colombian coffee more expensive in the U.S. Leading to a decrease in demand for Colombian beans.
Importers shift their purchases to other countries: increase demand/prices for coffee from these alternative sources. And put downward pressure on Colombian coffee prices.
I know how to spell Colombia. I'm sure many others do as well. My autocorrect on my phone changes it to Columbia. If I'm not paying attention... it gets me every time.
I'm not a certified expert, but the average price of Colombian coffee, currently around $6.33 per pound, could increase by $1.58 to $7.91 per pound under the new tariff.
In Canada we are getting ready for the tarrifs. Went to stores today and some USA products had been pulled of shelves and some on sale incase people boycotts. In solidarity with vulnerable California I bought bottle of wine and pistachios.
What is also happening is that there is a growing buy Canadian or products that least benefit. Noticed that in my neck of woods USA products on sale less selling.
My first experience with this was ordering off Chewy, which has the ability to list only Canadian products despite them being an American store. Don’t know if they always had that but… I clicked it and everything was half the price of American stuff.
We should entirely exempt California from our counter-tariffs. Maybe gift them our surplus softwood lumber to help with the wildfire rebuilding! @justintredeau.bsky.social
The Whitehouse burned burned burned & we're the ones that did it
It burned burned burned while the president ran & cried
It burned burned burned & things were very historical
& the Americans ran & cried like a bunch of little babies wah wah wah in the War of 1812 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sW799AwI3m0
Anyone who cares for Americans who are homeless thanks to Senile Pedophile Biden cares to comment on why did it have to take 4 months and a NEW PRESIDENT for Helene victims to get help???
How is a stupid tariff on a communist country important to those living in tents? See how f*cked up liberals are? Here you are complaining about COFFEE when children are cold and hungry!!!!
Homelessness skyrocketed in 2020 thanks to your leader’s wonderful management of the pandemic bot! Also, not every non-US country is communist. Leave the trailer and hit a library if you don’t know how to find reliable info from your phone.
Really? Did you not hear of the order to declare national energy emergency, drill for oil, this increasing the surplus of oil making price cheaper and therefore ALL products transported with derivates of oil going down in price??? Or were you absent the day they taught economics in economics class?
The world’s economy is going into crisis mode (as will
the U.S. shortly) because of your asshole, but hey as long as we bring back discrimination and racism, we’re good, amirite? 🙄
Coffee has been raising in price for a while. A lot of producers and distributors have been trying to absorb costs, but it’s been affecting coffee prices for a while now, and I’m definitely spending significantly more for beans.
It’s also a “commodity” crop. I’m sure it’s included.
I would be more interested about the timeline and a tick tock of how the Tariff moves from DonOLD’s desk to an invoice to a store shelf sticker.
These increases won’t and shouldn’t happen overnight.
Watching you closely Walmart, Kroger, and Starbucks. 👀
Time from import to store shelf would be days/weeks rather than months.
Efficiency, just in time delivery etc...
Of course there is old product in the stores but that will likely be bought up quickly now.
Ty, for the tag, every single day gets worse, he doesn't care and he doesn't care to learn. Not one person that's sane can tell one good thing that he has done for the little people.
Many coffee plantations have their own commerical websites.
You can buy green coffee beans directly from the grower, handing them all the profit that usually goes to the processor, distributor, and retailer. And it doesn't cost you a penny more.
I used to use a hot air popper, but I found that over time trace oils from the beans accumulates and burns out the heating element. Not so soon that it's impractical to use, but soon enough that having a backup popper on hand is a good idea.
Now I use an oven and baking sheet. Much better control.
At what temperature and for how long? My partner would definitely be a more accurate source of information but he listens for "first crack" and such. Is there a different way to gauge how the roast is going?
There is really way too much to tell 300 characters at a time.
The most surprising thing about roasting on a flat baking sheet is that beans in a pile do not roast like beans spread widely. I think it has to do with CO2 outgassing.
I sepparated my beans on the sheet in rows, like a little farm.
Roasting beans much beyond first crack is going to fill your kitchen with smoke. I cannot stress the importance of excellent ventilation strongly enough.
Dark roast is not for the home-roaster who is faint of heart.
U.S. imports of crude oil from Canada reached a record of 4.3 million barrels per day (b/d) in July 2024 following the expansion of Canada's Trans Mountain pipeline.
with frustration, i cannot tell what you are replying to. I have messaged blue sky and they assure me that they are working on it. what have you had ???
This… vacuum packed stored in cool dark place. Coffee stales after roasting fairly quickly in presence of oxygen and light. Ideally purge with nitrogen and vacuum (hard to do at home). Freezing also effective, but always in airtight container. All this is whole bean. Ground? Goes off MUCH faster.
longer than it says on the bag
this I know not from any knowledge on the subject but from hoarding green mountain black magic once it disappeared from shelves a few yrs ago
Don't post a pic of it!
It will be an invite for thieves to break into your house!
In true dystopian fashion, Trump will also make being in possession of coffee a crime, so you've given yourself away already!
2 Currently we are in strong backwardation mode.
The current month price is $358.46, the July 27 two and half years out, is $223.55 is still $134.90 less.
1
The market has what is called Contango, meaning when the futures price is above the expected future spot price. That implies futures prices are falling. Backwardation is when the futures price is below the future spot price. This indicates futures price to increase.
I had several friends that had very successful businesses in Columbia during Trump’s 1st term. His immigrant & South American hate rhetoric caused them great danger. They & every American that they knew there had to leave quickly due to this & forfeit their businesses. It was no longer safe for them
Thank-you. I think I get the spelling confused with my jackets. lol. Also, getting a public education in the South in the PAST has not been like the education in other places; very poor standards. I never learned Geography, World History & we only had 1 yr of History that was a complete joke.
It sounds like a great manufacturing incentive and opportunity for a company in the mainland United States if it can even be grown & sustained here. It seems like this would have already happened if this was possible and could be done easily and profitably. Hawaiian Kona coffee is too expensive!!!
There is a lady in my town whose small business is selling coffee beans. She was told by her supplier of Kona coffee beans that the crops in Hawaii are being affected by a beetle (probably some sort of borer) which has resulted in decreased production. This was about 2 or 3 years ago.
I am going to be scared to drink or eat anything from any of the countries that Trump is bullying & breeding profound hate in towards the U.S. I already won’t buy any food or make-up product made in China. They won’t even let U.S. regulators in to inspect the facilities our products come from.
The U.S. is the world's 2nd leading importer of coffee (both Arabica & Robusta varieties). In 2023, about 80% of U.S. unroasted coffee imports came from Latin America (valued at $4.8 billion), principally from Brazil (35%) & Colombia (27%). GOOD LUCK STARBUCKS! Can we successfully grow coffee here?
No one can really afford to buy 100% Kona coffee from Hawaii. Most brands on the mainland are a “blend” or are false advertising. We love it, but it is a once a year treat. I wonder if there are any Southern states that could sustain it, since they haven’t done so already.
There is 100% Hawaiian coffee, other than Kona and its coffee is grown in higher elevation, cooler environments and guess what, they’d still need immigrant labor to sustain a sizeable coffee farm.
I just know the price point there is affordable, but it is ridiculously high here on the mainland. I can buy a pineapple at Wal-Mart for $5.00, but if I had one sent from Maui, it would be at least $25.00 & that is before shipping. They seem to only grow enough for their tourist industry & the rich.
Mr. Trump is expecting the whole world to step up and “obey”. Well “el Exigente” will find that’s not the case. Problem is, all of us will pay the price.
No but I could comment about how the China tariffs are being skirted by most consumer goods/electronics companies, who are still paying the same Chinese CMs, but offshoring factories to skirt the tariffs, making products still a bit more expensive, but also making the tariffs pointless and harmful.
This is me decorating at Christmas time. I appreciate all the support. As Victoria said, support a local florist. Do not purchase your flowers from a grocery store. Ty keeping my chin up.
Unfortunately you will need to pass on these costs. I just wish there was a way you could express to your customers why. AND name trump!!! His name needs to be on every costs hike!!
I will intentionally seek out small business florists who practice DEI/are minorities/support DEI. I think we all should as we continue to be more mindful of where our money is spent
Once I began to grasp it and started peeling off the layers, I saw that it’s everywhere, ingrained into every aspect of our system, our society and our lives. I started thinking about what I can do to change this paradigm, and for me, it starts with teaching my kids The Truth about racism in the US.
Banking-purchasing power, education, iq testing, eligibility of college entrance, employers, government, and They just took the 1 stop gap away with no longer enforcing DEI. Disgraceful we are
Yes! That doesn't mean we can't do anything about it. Supporting businesses that do the right thing is part of how we show those horrible people they suck.
Really anyone that’s in poverty level black white yellow red and seeks a higher education and needs help! Veterans even diversity, equity and inclusion! This hurts a lot of ppl!!
Exactly what I was thinking. The floral industry does not need this, especially this close to a major floral holiday. Such a huge percentage of roses alone come from Columbia. (Not a florist myself but my small business works exclusively with florists.)
Central American coffee is my favorite. My family had a coffee plantation there & as a kid I grew up on cafe con leche - mostly milk w/a small amount of expresso & lots of sugar.
Gina421: Asshole tRump has been in office a week. He has already made this country a shithole country. Originally I gave him 6 months to drive this country into the ground. Looks like he's going to do it in record time...
Thank you for your kind thoughts. For many of us we know what's about to happen next and have very little power to stop it. Many of us are trying. It is just devastating to know how many of your countrymen/women can be okay with this. Where is the humanity?!
I want to see what happens when you have an under caffeinated, over taxed, and heavily armed proletariat. I guess I don’t really wanna see what happens but I think I’m going to regardless.
My friend, why do you think America exists in the first place? The colonists were willing to put up with a LOT of nonsense, but as soon as the tax on tea went up, all bets were off.
I research food & beverage ingredient trends for menu development&procurement budgeting Colombian coffee has been rising for several years due to drought & flooding straining global supply Dec 2024 prices in some markets were up 50% We’re also experiencing impact in Cocoa Olive Oil and Orange Juice
So the reduced demand as a result of increased cost in the USA might actually be beneficial for them if they play their cards right? Huh. Goddamn, look at that, MAGA giving opportunities to third world countries. Never thought I'd see the day.
Soo, if we're lucky, we'll pay more and more until we can't afford it anymore. And then, when enough people can't afford it, they'll start selling it for less? Should we say "thank you" now, while we wait to be forced to stop buying it?
I'm finding that the downside for me is a potential upside for Colombia, a country with a president I respect, a history and culture I appreciate, and a sense of global multiculturalism that should be celebrated and protected.
Sunshine through the rain my friend, find those silver linings.
I won't deny anyone their joy, so shine on! But polishing another country's silver while my country burns only leaves me standing in a pile of ashes while our dictator & his oligarchs roast their coffee beans (& count cash) up on the hill. I won't thank anyone for unjust punishment.
I believe we've finally entered the "Find Out" phase of Fucking Around. Everyone prep your popcorn and eclipse glasses, and find a folding lawn chair, that way you'll be a hilarious carbon outline instead of a sad one when the aliens visit in a million years.
Presumably aliens have some skills if they can make it across the galaxy or the cosmos. That suggests they'd give us a pass. We are nothing worth knowing.
The #FOTUS is working on bleeding the life out of regular people with his actions. He has to pay back his debt to the billionaires & dictators who paid to get him elected.
Indeed. The Felon's bullying will just amplify the impact, along with the inevitable supply chain disruption. I wonder if it's to improve Central American coffee producers, before the likely US "annexation". https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c36pgrrjllyo.
😂 I see what you’re doing here. Wish the Democrats could’ve amplified this message by educating the average American audience what their day-to-day reality will look like with the added Trump tariffs. Sadly, their message was way too scholarly and so didn’t really resonate with working folks.
you’re right, it was way too scholarly. Even my super dumbed down explanation of tariffs didn’t make a dent in the brainwash that is wrapped around my MAGA friends heads, like a helmet.
Perhaps telling them that their coffee prices or avocados, bananas, tomatoes will go up tremendously, the likes of which they’ve never seen before, may have made a difference…but with that helmet so firmly in place it’s hard to tell 😅😂😂
"Could have"? This happened five seconds ago. Past tense is not warranted, here. There's still plenty of time for Democrats to frame this properly. At least for people who are actually paying attention.
Yes could have… I was referring to the presidential campaign when folks needed to understand that Trump’s tariffs hit their pocket books immediately. But I agree that Democrats still have time to frame it correctly. They just need to do it.
Thank you for clarifying. Yes, that seems fair. I do think that many did try to explain and clarify the threat posed by Trump's tariffs, during the campaign. But of course the evaluation of how worthy those efforts were is quite subjective and open to interpretation.
As long as everyday Americans feel comfortable voting for folks who don’t have their best interests in mind once they’re in office, it’s imperative for those who actually care to do what’s right to keep trying to reach them in every conceivable way possible. Even just simplifying their message.
First they would have to have watched the Dem convention, then they would have had to watch the myriad of Harris/Walz ads, and oh yeah, turn off fox propaganda.
Yep. There’s that too. But I was particularly impressed with Secretary Pete Buttigieg when he went on Fox (even more than once) and talked to the folks there. Though I doubt that lots of young people watch that channel on a regular basis.
Me too. He’ll have my vote that’s for sure. I hope after all the tariffs that will increase prices to unsustainable levels for everyday workers, inflation will be on certain people’s mind. Who knows, they might even regret their choice. 🙄
True. I am sure many folks are convinced that the country whose goods are hit with tariffs pay those tariffs. They don’t understand that American importers pay the tariffs and in most cases pass the increased costs on to consumers.
I have always considered myself a pacifist and although I pretty much live in the wilderness, I've never owned a weapon. Of course everyone within earshot of me is armed (and MAGA). I just don't want to be a sitting duck. I HATE how the felon has made me feel.
True, we can’t “dumb down” the message further to reach them. But we can change the approach and put the focus more on the bottom line in a practical way. Saying your coffee at Starbucks will cost you $7.50/cup instead of $6 is more thought provoking than just saying a tariff is a sales tax.
These 'ordinary folks' are now going to find out what a bunch of dumb fucks they actually are. But you know they will somehow blame Biden for this complete mess caused by the senile orange felon.
I agree. But still keep hope alive that there will emerge a gaggle of brave journalists that takes their cue from Jim Acosta by not letting Republican politicians off the hook when they pivot to ‘but Biden, but Harris, but any Democrat du jour did this or that’ instead of answering their questions.😎
Pushes those countries further into the warm embrace of China, Chinese investment in Latin America has been going on for ages, but tell me again MAGA how Trump is smart on defense.
Duane Smith: Because tRump and Ivanka have their shit made in China. AND! Musky just built a shop over in China to make cars and ship them back to America. DOES THIS ALL MAKE SENSE TO YOU NOW?
His tariffs on China are targeted. Steel, aluminum, solar panel, washing machines. He’s proposing adding a uniform 10% to everything from China and 25% to everything from Canada.
Yes, and he is adding the blanket tariffs of 10% onto the 25% tariffs he already has in place concerning China. No good came of his games with tariffs before. This will certainly make things worse.
I heard Brazil is angry with us because that orange idiot deported a plane-load of people there IN FRIGGING HANDCUFFS. We don't deserve good coffee as long as he's around.
There are too many who voted for him, but please remember that the vote tabulations were tampered with by Elonia. No where near that number actually voted for him.
Those of us who are in the 60 million plus who DID NOT vote that way are with everyone else on how on earth this happened. I’m American but I am not one of *them*. 😫 Please remember nearly half of us who voted did NOT vote for this. 😞
Including other countries when maga idiots stop vaccinating their spawn and irradicated diseases start travelling around the world again. Smallpox for example.
So price of eggs and coffee are going up. And oranges are rotting on the trees. Right after trump got elected. Didn't he promise to lower grocery costs?
He promised everyone what they wanted to hear so that he would get elected, be POTUS again and avoid all the trouble he was in.
This is about HIM. He doesn’t actually know how to govern.
You have my sincerest regards.
I live in a rural area and try to avoid all wild fowl as well.
Keep your fur babies safe and all two-legged family members.
Won't know if the eggs your buying came from a farm that has a bird flu issue. The Orange Fungus has cut off all mentioning of any bird flues hitting farms.
Not so sure about that. I’ve 🥲kept chickens until recently. And the had an area to scratch that the they loved but I couldn’t keep wild birds away from the run. I was persnickety about their coop. A raccoon need my chicken days🥹
I'm getting quail (for meat and eggs) in the spring and starting a new garden as soon as this snow melts. I live in the city- most don't have ordinances against quail like they do chickens.
Perhaps all the people who bitched about immigrants taking their jobs will now take their place in the fields, hotels & construction sites. How much more is Hitler 2.0 gonna screw us over?!
Wait until we have no fruits and vegetables in the grocery store. This is all so unnecessary but the little orange man with the big butt and tiny hands is bent on retribution
Maga / GOP won't care. They will claim that the chickens that got bird flu were woke, & farmers are the problem for having woke chickens, & coffee is woke too. 1/3 of the American population will believe whatever bullshit lie trump tells them, even if it is incoherent BS like this.
We are California growers. Not just the oranges rotting on the trees, so are the AVOCADOS.
Mexico is our largest importer of avocados.
Good luck with that guacamole come Super Bowl Day.
I would think they can’t produce as much to support the entire US market, but it’s worth supporting US grown. I’m not sure how comparable pricing would be either. If there’s a tariff added, it may be worth buying “local” instead up to what they can supply.
I'm not an expert, but something tells me this is gonna affect the price of coffee, and once people are not able to afford their caffeine, watch out!!!!
That way you can also stop in the duty free shop. Plus you get more for your money in Canada. Make a day of it. Niagara Falls is a great place to go for the day.
Trying. . . saw in my replies about 45 minutes ago. A press release from the Colombian prez. Not good at the search function here but will keep looking.
Can’t find it, it’s in Spanish, a press release from the Colombian prez, posted about 45 minutes ago. I don’t know how to properly search on this platform yet. Checking the replies under several related posts where I saw it. Will keep trying. . . .
it's on yahoo. sourced of course. Thou he did point out Columbia imports U.S products and tarrifs go both ways except the columbia government will help with that cost.
Mark you a business owner just like me… can you put together a post on who actually pays the tariffs bc Nazi Orange Man either to dumb to realize or to stupid to comprehend
What tariffs ?? ain't no tariffs on Columbia. Wimpy-dicktator-don-the-con changed his mind after the Pres of Columbia promised him a case of GunOil and a truckload of super-dooper 50-gal DIAPERS
Certainly no expert on futures or tariffs, but the Democratic ranking member of the Ways and Means Committee said today tariffs = taxes. He said certain industry protecting tariffs are fine, but Trump's hatchet tariffs are harmful. Soy bean farmers certainly learned that during Trump 1.0.
He’s an incompetent which is why he’s also licking incompetents as well. Why anyone wants this fool in office is beyond me.. being political is not really how I want to spend my days, but with this shit show, you can’t avoid it! 😡
Damn you Canadians and your metric system! None of my wrenches will work on that faucet. Can you maybe put in one that someone with tiny hands could open?
Ok guys, ill tell you everything.
There's a secret location in Canada's with a faucet that dispenses Colombian coffee ☕️ 😋
I'm thinking of organizing tours to that location for our neighbors south of the borders. Would you be interested? Not cheap though.
He doesn't care- he gets whatever he needs. He can fill his jet up, fly to the rain forest and get coffee in the morning and then fly somewhere else for dinner. Has no concerns for the rest of us.
Yes, but the tariffs is only at the point of Entry. The costs once in the Uas aren't tariffs, but, as we daw with inflation, companies can increase prices and blame something else for the raise.
25% now, 50% in a week if Columbia stays steadfast. Columbia is an ally of ours and what Trump is doing is terrible. It will come back to hurt the American consumer and businesses, especially small businesses, if prices go through the roof.
Expert? No. Love data and economics? Yes. My guess is without supply chain changes 10%-20% with 12%-14%. If any experts are around would love to hear how I did, otherwise will just wait and collect data when inflation hits
Just calling Columbia a"national security threat" is not sufficient grounds for an Executive Order to impose a tarriff. It must first be reviewed by the Department of Commerce. Drumpster's just breaking the law again.
"In 2023 alone, the U.S. exported over 4 million metric tons of corn to Colombia, equivalent to $1.14 billion in sales...American farmers cannot afford to lose such a vital export market, especially when access to the top U.S. corn export market, Mexico, is already at risk."
Who is going to stop him? He got away with treason and armed rebellion. And rape. And fraud. Legal consequences happen to other people. USA, you are stuffed. Sorry, but it's true and self-inflicted.
I don’t know much about coffee futures…but my husband knows that for a happy life he must have a happy wife and part of how he does that, is to ensure that (after our first morning kiss) i I have my first hot cup of coffee delivered in bed…I think F47 really wants us in a war…
You can get yaupon tea that is grown locally in North America. It is our natural local source of caffeine. I'm thinking I might go collect some seeds from one I have growing here now and planting them next week. They might be worth a bunch of money soon.
Yes, India, too! That's what we drink in the mornings. But the camellia bushes one sees on Indian plantations were planted there from China buy the British.
We might have to go back to "stretching" our drink with Chicory Root, just like grandma did during WWII,
but Coffee isn't Columbia's only export. Lots of US firm could feel a pinch.
I thought Trump threatened that he would change their name to Columbia is they didn't take his military plane transported "illegals" because Columbia relates to Amerian history.
WH are uneducated morons . Felon 47 declares everyone be designated at conception as their lifelong sex . Everyone is Female until 6 weeks . Those people are just dumb .
From my experience most of the maga are not so much the psycho redneck stereotypes as really average white christian suburbanites who frequent Starbucks.
I am no expert, I see it happening regardless. I should check.
What surprised me is that they backed off. Landing a US military plane in a foreign country though is intimidation.
The cost of 1 military plane flight is over 900,000. When ice chartered passenger planes it was under 10,000. It's theatre. Show the military show of force. Not near as impressive to load them on a regular plane at the airport.
Definitely.
He'll later tell us how much it cost as a symbol of "how bad it was".
It could have been 90% cheaper...or more if they'd only focus on criminals and not hard working, innocent families who contribute to this country every day.
They had to. Not happy about that but The Colombian President needed to think about the impact of this on the Colombian farmers. The whole circus is disgusting
My daughter turned me on to them. My gift pack includes a
Brazil, and some blends (Mtn Expresso, Breakfast, Winter Cabin). There might be one from Colombia, too. I like the guys who run it with sustainability in mind. They always include a trivia note in the box. Smooth enough to drink black.
Cost Impact Per Cup
--
Coffee Cost Before Tariff:
$21.31 per ounce × 0.36 ounces = $7.67 per cup ☕
--
Coffee Cost After Tariff:
$26.64 per ounce × 0.36 ounces = $9.59 per cup ☕
--
Price Increase Per Cup:
$9.59 - $7.67 = $1.92 per cup ☕
Yet again you fail to be able to read the data as presented. It even says "341.000 0.01 USD". That's a penny. This is because you're looking at commodity scale pricing where you're not buying by the single lb, but 100lb sacks.
Yabut $7/lbs is Folgers, right? I'm doing one cup per day with 6g per serving in my mocha pot. With Sirens blend from the Buck, that's about $0.1868 per cup, not including the water, the cost to heat the water, the electricity to grind the beans, or depreciation on my grinder. Round it up to $0.25🦋.
I only wish a majority of that money went to the actual person working on getting my drink. Even accounting for cup, water, electricity, labor, and rent, it's still only a $3.00 cup of coffee.
That's why I stopped going .. Employees used to have great benefits , but things changed apparently , so .. sorry, but I am not going just to support greedy ppl.
Yup. The cost of your coffee at a cafe is mostly the labor to make the drink, cost to roast the coffee, the milk, overhead like rent and heat and electricity. Cost of the actual coffee beans in your drink is, as you say, low.
It’s Tea as well…. Teas aren’t grown here! I heard everyone to go on a food scavenger hunt in your pantry and fridge. You’re gonna find out in a terrifying way how much of it comes from out of country.
BOYCOTT THE PLUTOCRACY
See where your money goes when you spend it.
What party and where they stand on CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM. Let's get their dark money out of our government.
STOP FUNDING YOUR OPPRESSORS
Shouldn’t the people behind Project 2025 be tried for attempted murder considering their ‘chapters’ related to canning inspectors general and withdrawals from WHO, NIH and the like? If the Supreme Court can say corporations are people they have to accept equally creative ways that people will die.
Regardless, we know that everything Trump does is transactional, and always only for he and/or his Mar a Lardo cronies. Someone will make a ton of money, and we know it won't "trickle down" to us caffeinated workers; it's just another way to raise taxes on the working class for the oligarchy profit.
I will happily pay tariffs on goods from countries that give Trump the middle finger and refuse to accept any of his policies, starting with his “purge the Brown people” flights
Why would you pay extra sales tax to our government? Because that’s essentially what it is, an extra tax paid our government by us. I’m not paying extra taxes to any government run by an orange idiot and his minions.
OK, I know what a tariff is. My statement was more in support of Colombia than enthusiasm for paying more. And I stand by it-I would rather pay more taxes, even to this awful government, and see his deportation flights turned away, then pay less and see other countries acquiesce.
Right!! The tariffs go to the US Treasury and will be used to give a tax credit to the billionaires. Trump already said he was giving them a big tax credit so now we will have to pay more for goods (tariff) so he can fulfill his promise to them. Screw the little guy!!
The little guy always gets screwed under Republicans. And to be honest, all too often under the Democrats too. At least we can enjoy watching Colombia and Mexico give Trump a giant middle finger. Wish Guatemala would too.
It won't just be tariffs making coffee expensive. Most ports employ a decent percentage of immigrant workers that are now being hunted. In order to get goods off ships you need people and transport and distribution. Without it, it all slows, costs more and costs get passed down the line to consumers
Did I say they worked either legally or downchain? As someone else pointed out undocumented workers can join the dockworkers union. Seems they wouldn't allow that if it weren't common. Lying no, you are ill informed, seems so.
You just dont have a clue what you're talking about, by law, unions must allow undocumented workers to join a union (in general), that does not mean they are allowed security clearance to do said job.
Since 9/11, our ports are under TSA jurisdiction.. you can't even get onto the property illegally
Yeah they never hire under the table ever right? Oh that's why you can easily google cases of undocumented workers arrested working at ports and docks. So they can work there, get arrested there but their TSA clearance magically keeps them out so it never happens? I think maybe you don't know a lot
The strike affected ports from Maine to Texas and had the potential to disrupt supply chains significantly. While such strikes underscore the importance of fair labor practices and negotiations, they also bring attention to the vulnerabilities faced by immigrant workers who might be involved.
New York and California have a staggering amount of staff (who may or may not be documented, not that it matters, as they're picking up Navajo people) working in their high-end restaurants. If you thought eating out was expensive now, just wait until kitchen staff start disappearing from work...
The staggering irony, is this is being cooked up by a bunch megalomaniac CEOs who can't seem to comprehend the way that the US economy is going to grind to a near halt, or the ways their own businesses will suffer.
...tell me you don't know shit about your own business without using those words...
I mean they’ve been grinding their employees into the ground and refusing to pay for their medical care for ages, despite there being solid research showing that shorter hours and better medical care *gasp* means employees do more
There are secondary import export companies that surround ports and employ non union workers to move, drive, distribute, ship by train, truck, to move an enormous amount of goods. And if ports employ undocumented they don't advertise that.
Not an expert, but this sure shows us why Trump will defy virtually all economists' judgement for the sake of tariffs...they're the perfect means for bullying and punishing any nation that doesn't capitulate to him at once. That we will pay the price seems immaterial.
RoosiR: tRump is fucking the whole Damn country all at once. Like a Damn gang bang. Nobody is doing anything to stop him. Just like when he was raping that 15 year old girl. Nobody there would stop him. He threatened her life. He killed a 12 year old girl to keep her quiet.NOW HE'S FUCKING PRESIDENT
More importantly we're a net exporter to Colombia, so a few more trade wars instigated by this buffoon with other counties should crash our GDP pretty quickly.
Culture appropriation of other places is something we would never do. Like taking the name of another country and turning it into a place in Amerikkka. So when I type Columbia it autocorrected on my phone to where I am from. White people blow donkey balls.
sure we do. it's what we do. some of us aren't proud of it. but which of the Amerikkkas do you mean? we have several to choose from. none of them particularly lovely.
Words like your money are weird AF here. You seem to have no problem with my misspelling of Amerikkka but Columbia/Colombia you jumped right on to defend that country. But not proud of that country. Irony.
Time to prep for the economic crash and let's sort these assholes out. If you voted for this or didn't vote at all, you likely signed your bankruptcy papers in advance.
I haven't seen anyone mention that the US imported $10bn worth of Crude Oil and Petroleum Products from Colombia, a couple of years ago. I know Trump will "drill baby drill", but that can't help the US consumer.
I'm referring to all exported goods. Sure, Colombia consumers will feel the pain there, just like we will on coffee prices. Consumers are always the big losers when tariffs are imposed, and certain business too that have a large percentage of their business with one country.
Nope. But that would be the least of my concern on coffee prices. Soon enough due to climate change shortages of the beans, will really inflate prices. How do I know? I am a homesteader. I live and work in ag for my survival, on the front lines of climate change. So add that to tariffs... yeh.
> no favors
The US is the largest trading partner of Colombia (over 25%) High tariffs would have been very painful. They and the rest of the world are already doing worse economically than the US
Our economic 'soft landing' was thought to be be almost impossible. (respect to Biden and the Fed).
Actually Trump backed down. They said they won’t accept deported people in handcuffs and to treat them with some human dignity and fund to the tariffs. Trump acquiesced. By the way, the Biden admin sent deportees to Colombia with no issues. Because they were treated like humans.
They backed down on a condition that immigrants are treated with dignity and respect and not chained up like Supermax prisoners. At least that’s what I read somewhere.
Colombia did not back down…that is some serious gaslighting of the facts. I live here and President Petro countered with a 50% tariff on all US imports. Then diplomats got involved. Please fact check.
Get your message out to more people. What did the orange menace have to give in
to in order for Columbia to allow USA planes to land in Columbia and offload passengers? It sure as heck didn’t happen cuz of idiot boy’s prowess.
It won't matter. The corporations inside the US will use it as an excuse to price gouge, regardless of what Colombia does. Prices will still sky rocket.
Inflation means it's all out of control and we *all* share the cost. Price gouging means someone is benefiting. They aren't really the same to me other than it costs us money down stream.
I was referring to the branding when it's "Biden's fault" versus the branding when it could be Trump's fault.
Bingo!! Anytime they have an excuse, whether a statement comes to fruition or not, they price gouge. They have been doing that heavily since the pandemic. Not only have they made up their losses, they have surpassed the profits of their expectations!
I'll leave it up to the experts on Fox News. I'm sure that they'll have an explanation as to why our everyday goods are jumping exponentially, but it definitely won't be because of spiteful tariffs imposed by a petty president.
Don't compare trump to Hoover, please 🥺 Hoover helped a bunch of people in his efforts doing humanitarian work, he was just a bad president. Trump hurt a bunch of people in his life, and also is a bad president, probably because he is probably a sociopath, and I mean that literally
There’s no real disrespect to Hoover intended. I just grabbed a random president. Just poking fun at the current one blaming past presidents for all of his own shortcomings. He’d throw anyone under the bus to deflect blame.
Fair enough as I said Hoover was a bad president but he was a good honest man, who just wasn't up to the challenge he was facing, Trump on the other hand, Trump is Trump is what I'll say
The CSers will probable defund the labor department to the point the CPI will be unavailable. Then they’ll be able to say “nah, it’s not any more expensive now. That’s just fake news telling you that”
I mean honestly, this is all Joe Biden’s fault
By Tuesday, it will be the Harris administration’s fault
By Wednesday, Michelle Obama will be responsible and by Friday, Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger will be at fault
I am hopping Murdoch's democratic 3 children will change th fox dyanics when they take over in the future. It is really disgusting. I do not watch at all.
Would any true American want the US to not be a member of NATO? If we’re not a member, doesn’t that weaken global stability and then what happens when Putin wants the Americas?
trumps got his base brainwashed that its best to focus on our own country then anyone else. I think its called Isolationism for those who wanna deep dive into it . and when reading comments im floored how many in our country actully back that politcal trian of thought
China is more of a long-term geostrategic rival to US interests & a US sphere of influence than Russia. Russia is a sort of a has-been, and being a has-been and a loser is why countries like Russia, Iran and North Korea double down on stupid internet games to get gullible people to do their bidding.
Australia: enjoying the Roman circus.... the AD635 version, the last one before Krakatoa sent the Earth into a nuclear winter.
They did say Nero, i mean Dumpty would be the last Emperor, i man president
Donald Trump is working for Donald Trump - to feed his ego and make him feel important. He's also making plenty of money grifting. US taxpayers buy his eggs, he doesn't drink coffee so what does he care what they cost? He never intended to make us great, that was a meaningless slogan to get elected.
It is a problem it is causing the ugly american rhetoric to come back. I know in Canada people are boycotting products, cancelling trips to florida, etc. The images of how vulnerable immigrants are being treated is really causing a visceral reaction. It is a shame we have been good neighbours.
Trump is a useful idiot for a bunch of rogues, including Putin, Xi, MBS, Netanyahu and so on. Even the Iranians who want to celebrate an assassination of Bolton and Pompeo have found a useful idiot in Trump.
Putin infuriates many of his fellow rogues from time to time, but the rogues still come around to support him. This is because rogues are in their natural element in doing business with fellow rogues and because those rogues hooked to money and/or power are birds of the same feather.
He's a tyrant in the making and tyrants rely on a massive military that isn't based on voluntary service (because that costs too much for their liking)
So he's going to have to introduce the draft
I am going to SCREAM with laughter when MAGA discovers that part
Not an expert on any of that, but I've been stockpiling coffee. I don't want to experience what's to come decaffeinated.. and if I'm being real, no one wants to experience me decaffeinated.
Same. Started doing it a few months ago. Production of coffee beans have dropped due to the weather. This recent friction may make things worst. I’m projecting higher prices to come.
We did the same thing this afternoon. Ordered coffee. Wondering if toilet paper might somehow end up in high demand again, like when covid reared its head. TP tariff?
I think we're probably safe when it comes to tp since that's mostly domestic, but that doesn't mean people aren't going to lose their minds again. Coffee and chocolate are things I can stockpile.. an extra item ordered with each grocery order.. but I'm not sure how I'll make up for the produce.
It's definitely not the same as fresh produce, but we just ordered a bunch of packages of dried fruit...mangos, pineapple slices, dates, cherries. Chocolate!!!
I know what you mean, but I unintentionally de-coffeed myself last year. After the painful part, it's been great. I've been enjoying it more when I do decide to have some
My area has several small, artisanal coffee roasters. When I moved here, I splurged and bought an espresso maker to take advantage of these local options. For the best flavor, I buy small quantities at a time. I do expect to see my costs go up.😒
I'm gonna be putting out a post with the attached on it. I need 4 U to copy the link (I'll show U how if U don't know) & repost it EVERYFUCKINGWHERE! Get UR buds involved! I'm #UndercoverGranny a Dem Social Media Activist. I'll clue u in on my tricks 2 get it out a lot. DM ME IF INTERESTED!
CLICK.
THere may be nothing left by March. These things take time to get the word out. Actually I don't think it will work at all unless u get some HUGE Groups involved like MoveOn and NOW. Otherwise, a lost cause.
Great question. We're starting officially in March so we can get our local infrastructure ready and stockpile. This is going to require us to get really uncomfy and create community with our neighbors.
this is later so we have time to organize and set up mutual aid. this is not for just one day. it is until the government meets the peoples demands and there is NO big business in government 💕
Thanks.
I think that's the problem.
No one seems to know much about it.
I used the link and didn't get much info.
And what's there is confusing and even seems limited.
Not good marketing.
As a coffee drinker, and someone who LOVES Hawaii (just got back) and especially Kona, their coffee aint really that special, imo. It's fine. But not worth the price. Like HI pineapples. Theyre delicious. But $10? When Costa Ricans are $2 on mainland?
The USA does not grow it, outside Kona and Southern California, however there are thousands of brands who roast/pack and fulfill coffee here in the states that could use ALL the support they can get, like my company Kings Coast Coffee
With alt text I could read it and share it with millions of people who can’t see very well or anything. But we are voters too. Don’t left us behind, please.
Although I plan on participating in this shutdown, for the next four years I'm only buying necessities, local small businesses when I can too. The rest of my money will be staying in my pockets.
I'm also scaling way back.. thrifting first, only buying necessities. I don't have much money to begin with, but I'll be keeping it for myself. I have enough stuff. Too much, really..
Ditto here!! Today I stocked up on what I think will be tariffed, or suffer from the 48% reduction of farmworkers in Calif (nuts, beans, veggies, fruit), before I read the headline about the 25% (going up to 50% in a week if Petro doesn't cave) Colombia tariffs, better go tomorrow for JUST coffee 🥺
Top four countries USA imports oil from and they have already pissed off 3 of them. Add those 25% tariffs on Canada, Mexico and Colombia DonOLD. Americans will be paying $10 a gallon.
Oh I realize. And here’s the thing. Most of us cannot comprehend numbers so large. We’re all aware Elonia is worth almost $1T and the king expects this much for one appearance? Over 400x the offer?
Ah, of course they know better than any expert, they have god's wisdom. As for coffee, my sis and bro-in-law run a roastery and regularlarly visit their farmers around the world. They witness first hand that climate change is real.
Is Columbia the only Coffee exporter? I am wondering if Costa Rica, Africa and other exporters can step in. Also, many mom and pop coffee shops who sell great coffee beans. Just hope they come from other countries.
These countries are already exporting their coffee beans to other countries including the US in addition to their domestic consumption, they don't have a surplus of mega tons of coffee beans that are left unconsumed or not exported and waiting to be exported to the US.
USA facts dot org states: The two South American nations have swapped the top spot back and forth — in 2023, Colombia led with $1.38 billion worth of coffee exported to the US compared to Brazil's $1.35 billion, according to International Trade Administration data.Mar 14, 2024
No, other countries importers like Australia that will scoop up top tier distressed Colombian and Mexican beans at rock bottom prices. Raw coffee is perishable, limited shelf life
It's called: Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Wait till i tell you about how we just won hundreds of billions in renewables investment because Dumpty nukes offshore turbine licences...it gets better.
Oh, and allowing US banks to trade-hold crypto. Oz banks are forbidden... GFC2.0
There is going to be a hell of a lot more than coffee going up.
90% of farm workers are immigrants, 50% of those undocumented.
Who is going to work in the fields. Americans are too lazy..
Husband buys Starbucks K cups on Amazon. He gets 75 at a time. He just checked because he bought two weeks ago - it was $33. Today it is $49. Bazinga to the MAGATS. How do you like it now????
If true, this is price inflation which is bad for the buyer (ie, your husband, me and everyone else), but it’s Amazon or Starbucks price gouging. The tariffs wouldn’t affect that actual cost this soon.
Exactly - the tariffs will be on top of the price gouging. It’s the stupidity of the voters - Kamala was committed to stopping price gouging. And, she would have never created this upsidedown mess in taking care of the issues with immigration. There was a bipartisan border deal Trump stopped.
They might just increase price to hedge a tariff, no? Even if for a days, caffeine is the most widely used psychactive substance on the globe, profit is cha ching.
Columbia shouldn’t have backed down. I think they could have gotten international support to defy the US if they would have held the line. I don’t think Mexico or Panama is going to make that mistake.
The President demanded that people aren’t shacked and treated like cargo.
Trump threatened tariffs, Petro retaliated, and USA agreed to treat people like people (this time).
That’s not caving. It’s caring.
The fact US news sources are trying to position this as some big win for Tinyhands 🤢
Colombia didn’t back down, they got what they wanted, you’ll just never hear about it. There have been flights for years, but it was about how the people were being treated. Colombias statement mentioned the humane aspect is what they demanded, which is what trump conceded.
Colombia did not back down. They countered with a 50% tariff on all American imports and then American diplomats got involved to de escalate the situation. It’s time to stop taking White House official statements at their word. Lies and gaslighting and ignoring the facts is now commonplace.
No country tries to flop his weight needs to back down. A) he’s cutting the size of the US military
B) he doesn’t understand he cannot fight multiple fronts and win, he can’t concentrate on one after another as they will protect each other
C) he wants to pull from nato which means no backup
The price of coffee/125 kg is ~$242.12. With a 25% tariff, it’s ~$302.65. Brazil and Peru are key exporters, but poor rainfall cut yields. Both countries are expected to produce 1.6% less than last year, which could drive prices higher. Futures rose 8.16% this year, but that probably won’t continue.
OPEC will decide what happens to the Oil price, they'll keep it just where they want it...USA citizens don't the other hand will be paying something between 25 & 60% more
Sigh. Coffee is one of the few things that bring me joy, even when my depression is at its worst (and it's been bad for months and months now). If I can't afford coffee, I will be... very sad.
No that's not what I was saying at all. My point is that the prices are going to increase anyway, and that's bad enough and then he is going to make it even worse because he's a dumbass.
I figured it out, absolutely not am I saying that his shitty behavior is ok. He's a dick and I hate him. I guess what I'm saying is higher prices are going to happen eventually & then when you add on top his shitty behavior, it just makes it worse. Never would I excuse any of his psychotic bullshit.
Honestly, it probably wouldnt increase it too much. It accounts for about a third of our coffee imports. My assumption would be maybe a 10% hike in prices on the high end, and, odds are, they would just ship it to brazil first or sell it to Switzerland to get roasted and then sold to us.
Upon discussion and criticism, I have decided to update it to more like 5% max.
Columbia mainly exports unprocessed beans.
US roasters would import about 50% of the green coffee beans from Columbia.
More than 50% CoGS would be processing and packaging. 10% profit margin
.5*.25*.5*.9~5.6%
I think 10-20% just to start. And that's average across the board. And wait until all the other factors of life come into play, there are a zillion factors to which the cost of a cup will be not just the beans imported. And this administration is going to crush everything and we have climate change
It is not less supply. It is just more expensive and that's only for the products that use columbian coffee beans. Odds are that companies will find an alternative that is not as cheap to import from. Whether that is shipping Columbia to Brazil to US or just buying from Brazil instead.
Price increase depends on reaction to tariffs. If consumers rush out to buy coffee to get ahead of price increases, the jump in price could be significant. But if it’s assumed a deal can be reached, importers could delay and avoid tariffs all together. It’s all about the vibes.
It is probably a mix of supply and convenience. Columbia and Brazil are close and produce more. Ethiopia and Uganda, you have to ship around Africa and through not 100% safe waters. It would just be more expensive and would need some benefit.
Doesn't work this way. A 30% decrease in supply would cause way more than 10% increase on the price of coffee, other countries don't have enough production of coffee beans to replace the Colombian coffee export to the US.
Right, but our imports from Colombia won't drop to zero so it's really 25% of up to 30%, or up to 7.5%, and importers will likely shift to importing beans from Brazil and other countries. That said, the leap to 50% seems a lot worse.
Other countries don't produce enough to make up for Colombia beans export to the US. These coffee beans producers including Brazil already export all what they can to other countries including the US, they don't have a surplus to export. PS: When Gas prices went up by 50% supply only fell by 10%.
The supply wouldnt go down. Just getting it from a specific source would be more expensive. Companies want to stay competitive. The ones that import from Columbia will find alternatives and workarounds. That's like the foundation of capitalism. Roast the beans in switzerland or canada for example.
A 25% tariff on Colombian coffee can significantly impact coffee futures, and whether to buy or sell depends on your strategy and market expectations. Here’s how the tariff might influence coffee futures:
Colombia added a tariff on USA too
This is where America gets bananas coffee and cocaine. Gonna be a weird year with everyone Jonesing and having to take giant potassium pills
I thought it had to do with military craft being used and inhumane treatment of the immigrants? Either way, who buckled wasn’t the entire point. The point I was mostly trying to make was that I didn’t need to buy 4 years of coffee just yet.
It did. That treatment provoked Columbia’s refusal of the military transports carrying shackled prisoners. Trump said,” 25% tariffs;” Colombia said “50% tariffs!” Trump said, “Nevermind!”
I just ordered my wife 200 ounces of green coffee beans — she roasts her own and I don’t partake, but she told me that if it skyrockets, she will quit coffee. I hope you all get to continue your coffee fixes— I foresee a lot of grouchy workers huddled around an empty coffee pot. It’s a bad move.
I haven’t decided yet, was in Kauai recently and got a lecture at Kauai Coffee Company about NOT freezing it from them….had actually forgotten I just bought all of that coffee too so I guess I have about 7 or 8 months supply now!
Colombian president wants the immigrants to be treated with dignity, they've been arriving in handcuffs and shackles. When he refused to accept their arrival, Trump said that in retaliation he would impose very severe sanctions against Colombia.
Correct. The issue isn't repatriation. It's the spectacle of nonviolent immigrants in restraints on military C17s. Plus, Columbia just added a retaliatory 25% tariff on all US imports. Also, President Gustavo Petro has instructed his Foreign Trade Minister to find new markets for Columbian goods.
You’re posting information from Fox News and t you think you’re spreading factual information? They are a propaganda machine for Trump so you should look for your information elsewhere as nothing they spout is factual or news. Just lies and propaganda for Trump.
The President of Colombia did the right thing going to get his people. People sent back to the US because their country won't accept flights will probably end up in private prisons leased to farmers.
This was tongue-in-cheek folks :)
Obviously the direct cost increase is 25% but that doesn't reflect the total cost of sales or the margin so it is likely to be significantly less in percentage terms of the price.
It never works out that way. The producer and the importer will have to absorb some costs to remain competitive. I don't know this market, but many factors will determine the final price.
If it’s 1.00 a pound from Columbia it’s going to hit the shelf at around 2.55. It would have been around 2.04 without the tarriff. You’d pay 100% markup on that 25%.
It's 100% on cost, but not necessarily on price. Producers, importers, distributors, and retailers may all absorb some of the cost to maintain market share.
Except then he put tariffs on us.. so he’s definitely not giving in. So Colombians get punished and the American people get punished. Trump is not a genius
i don’t think stones can be thrown at the leader of a country whose economy would be severely impacted long term by the 🍊💩👜’s threats. it’s the 77+ million american voters who bear the blame for everything he does.
It’s why the Democrats can play dead when they’re out of office. Nothing Trump does will touch them, it’s just business as usual for politicians and their donors
Hah, Don will just claim he has some federal power that allows him into police evidence lockers
"The cops were suspect when Don Jr would leave with a hint of white on his nose, but he claimed to have federal protection so he was left to go off on his own" will be in a newspaper one day
“The word ‘grocery,’ it’s a sort of simple word. But it sort of means, like, everything you eat. The stomach is speaking, it always does.” — 45, Oct 2024
They don’t have a clue and don’t care about healthcare for the average person or rent or mortgages or Social Security or Medicare. They wouldn’t care about the price of gas if it wasn’t for the
$$ they could make from drilling. They really don’t care if you happen to live in a blue state.
They wouldn't care in the slightest about the pain of the average consumer.
If a reported asked them to their face on camera, they would act unaware, then say "I'll look into it..."
Nor have they ever cooked, cleaned, or sat down for a home style meal. Steaks at MAL is how they roll. They live off other people’s money and give zero fucks about Americans. Only interested in ripping them off with their endless scams - it’s so ridiculous and repulsive
That argument implies that they would want to do what's best for the country if they understood. Im sorry if this seems harsh, but these people are strip mining your economy and this just comes across as an excuse for them. Affluenza made them do it.
I just ordered some more. I'm with you. Getting out of bed to face the news of this chaos is hard enough. I will cling to that coffee mug with white knuckles.
My thought as well. Or is he already getting a bigger cut for looking the other way? Biden siezed more drugs on his watch than trump. Even the recent Denver bust was an investigation started under Bidens feds.
No, that’ll be safe. He just pardoned Ross Ulbricht who owned “Silk Road” on the dark web. 6 ppl died from overdoses purchased from that website.. among countless other criminal activities. But no harm no foul in Dumpty’s world. Full pardon.
Someone should throw that idea at him, just for fun. He's dumb & gullible. Convince him legalizing cocaine to collectvtaxes will really stick it to Columbia.
Good to know, and my apologies. I meant no disrespect towards the Bladerunner.
Although, I am curious of his stance on foreign relations. Broad Street Bullies, were actually tough. Not like the dude in office now, with those bone spurred feet. 😂
Their war on drugs excludes them completely, just like the illegal immigrant rules don’t apply to Elon. Do as I say, not as I do. They’re excluded from any rules they make.
American consumers need to get their heads around the fact cheap US oil is finished, and back politicians who can lead them to a secure, alternative energy future.
Next up, tariffs on Canada & Mexico: Just googled this:>>>> In 2022, the United States imported 52% of its total petroleum and 60% of its crude oil from Canada. Canada is the primary source of oil imports for the US.
It’s manufactured chaos designed to divert our attention away from the Republicans at every legislative level who are busy tearing our Constitution and our country apart. With a gleeful vengeance (vengeful glee?). Remember with how much glee, it fuels our justifiable outrage and righteous anger! 💙🇺🇸💪
The United States imports many products from Colombia, including mineral fuels, coffee, cut flowers, and precious stones. Colombia is the United States' largest trading partner in South America.
Mineral fuels
In 2023, the US imported $7.19 billion in mineral fuels, oils, and distillation products
U.S. imports of crude oil from Canada reached a record of 4.3 million barrels per day (b/d) in July 2024 following the expansion of Canada's Trans Mountain pipeline.
The guy in the video is describing a scenario in which we forsake American oil and gas infrastructure in favor of cheap imports, decimating domestic production. I'm with you though, bring on the crippling economic catastrophe before Trump is able to glue the fascism puzzle pieces into place.
Yes, they could be cowards focussed on saving their hides, or there could be a power vacuum in the party post the loss. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for a little while.
I agree with everything this guy is saying, everything except $1.50 gas. I think Trump will chase that objective, 'negotiating' with people that are far smarter than him, but while Trump fumbles through the 'art of the deal', our enemies will be focused on chaos and disruption.
Arabs have been haggling for a thousand years - it's in their genes. Trump is a lamb being led to slaughter. He's got nothing to offer OPEC in return for lowering oil prices.
U.S. imports of crude oil from Canada reached a record of 4.3 million barrels per day (b/d) in July 2024 following the expansion of Canada's Trans Mountain pipeline.
“We hold el cabrón presidente fully responsible for the drugs that will flood the U.S. Maybe next time he will treat people with dignity. Too bad they drink crap coffee now." ~ President Gustavo Petro
I was thinking that even his idiot supporters would be pissed if he fucked with their coffee. I'm glad that I don't drink it. But my father does. He already can't stand Trump. This may make him straight up hate the guy.
I chuckle as I sit sipping coffee in my Pink Floyd tee. Roger Waters met with a group of veterans after his concert in Chicago, it was so surreal! 💙✊🏼🎶🤘🏼
It must've been a cool experience. David Gilmour just had a few shows in the US, but only in NY and LA. I was sad I couldn't see him, but I understand that at his age he can't do the large tours anymore. Thankfully, there's footage on YouTube!🙂
Yep - combine that higher-priced coffee with the Colombian import of cut flowers and relationship cheaters will have to find something else to entertain their side pieces
As a recovering alcoholic I can assure you that if he isn't in a program and isn't taking responsibility for his drinking the he's drinking or will be soon.
If he’d been in recovery long prior to being nominated, he might possibly be able to handle the stresses of the job…..but if he thinks he can “just quit” an alcohol addiction that pronounced, in THIS administration….he’s going to fail….
Oh, absolutely. You have to wonder how deluded he must be, to even believe he WANTS to be sec/def. Likely he has NEVER had to carry that level of responsibility and scrutiny in his entire life.
Trump loading his cabinet with brown nosing YES men! Hegseth acting all religious is another punch in the face to all Americans! Lying sacks of cow manure! Sorry cow manure! You deserve better!
Irony is, he probably made way more as a drunken morning talk show host AND he didn’t have to hide his drinking. I mean, you’d NEED some kind of mind-altering drug to work at FUXNews at 6 am on Saturdays
It’s called the Dunning–Kruger effect. He’s too stupid and arrogant to realize what he doesn’t know. He only wants to go after the so called “woke”. He’ll likely crash and burn!
Fam, Jr. has been tweeking whilst high off his tits on Columbian nose candy and there hasn't been a single meaningful peep. Hegseth will be just fine, he can sell state secrets and get blitzed in peace
Too late. He's a(nother) prime administration member who's a candidate for extortion and blackmail. As a former fed myself, required annual ethics trainings drilled that message in. Of course, today it's all ethics shmethics.
Hitler had the Beer House Coup that helped wave in his fascist regime, we are about to have the great Coffee Coup to help usher out our fascist regime!
I literally had a friend tell me in 2002 that Americans wouldn’t lift a finger until they couldn’t get their lattes in the morning… and then it would be ON!
Hey Eric Trump: fuck off. Your convict dad doesn’t love you. There is no “we” in your threat, you are not a government official, just a sad, ugly wannabe with no respect for democracy. Sit the fuck down, douche.
I was just thinking the same. Make one of their favorite pastimes very pricey. They will have to not pay more of their workers to afford the booger sugar.
Wow, the greatest leadership ever.
Lincoln is legendary not because he punished people but because he liberated people.
Mandela is legendary not because he punished people but because he liberated people.
Churchill is legendary not because he punished people but because he liberated people.
1) You are a fascist; 2) the Gilded Age (1870s-1890s) is clearly the blueprint for this "Golden Age" you speak of, but you idiots would have to know any history to be aware how unoriginal you are; 3) your father doesn't love you.
I call him the Dictator. We are in a crisis and the least all of us can do is call him by his ACTING title. Dictator. Not my president. I will not pretend his edicts represent democracy.
Some of the most notable companies roasting Colombian coffee beans include Starbucks, Melitta, Lavazza, Dunkin Donuts, Caribou Coffee, Counter Culture Coffee, Green Mountain and San Francisco Bay.
All this will do is push them to create stronger ties with China. Which president business feels is “influence”. Thus creating a self fulfilling prophecy. Stable genius my ass.
no, Brics is Brazil, Russia, India/Indonesia, and SA. An old club of states sort of like the v old non-aligned, getting funds from China to bld infrastructure & oppose US foreign policy, but unlikely to get involved w/migration. Maybe Panama issue or S China Sea.
it was formed in 2009, that's fairly old. Indonesia just joined, don;t think anyone else has recently, but I may be wrong. I don't follow it closely, but I never think of it as a v serious 'threat' except in certain situations where it throws money around or votes as a bloc. You may know better.
too late. buckle up for the ride down. it’ll have many twists and turns but in the end when the rollercoaster stops the US citizens will have been fleeced of all their bucks. But we’ll still find joy with each other in spite of those fucks.
As a Canadian, seeing the crap happening, if we remain liberal or a coalition or a minority, the US, under Trump will help us body our economy. It's very disappointed that people didn't believe he would do that. Voting against your own best interest. I guess people aren't hurting enough.
Tough to speak for others, especially when far too many of your own so-called leaders are in bed with not only our current aspiring Dick-Tater, but also with his Daddy in Moscow.
Watching us is probably like me watching y'all getting duped by Brexit... I was like NOOOOO!!!✌🏻
I don't want to see the US go down in flames... I'd much rather you guys join the rest of the western world and raise your standards... and get better policies and services from your gov't
It almost has to, barring a groundswell of citizen revolt vs. this assaut on modern US norms. We're losing ground to a madman, but folks are talking Chiefs vs. Eagles.
What that looks like?🤷🏻♂️
I've said for decades that my only hope was that the revolution be (mostly) peaceful, but history says no.✌🏻
I want to find out who is picking your fruit and veggies or will it just rot on the ground. I mean do you export fruit? What is going to happen when there isn’t any?
Downtrodden citizens (unemployed vets, work-release convicts?) will pick up the slack, they hope.🤷🏻♂️
Another part of the long-term plan is that forcing the births of millions of unplanned/unwanted pregnancies will result in a cheap domestic labor force in 12-15 years. Crazy times.✌🏻
There are going to be a lot of alliances we're not a part of. With the deportations, the labor shortage will put a lot of small farmers out of business. We will have to import more of our food supply. If all the countries that pick up the slack get together, the threat of a tariff has no effect.
Well that was the reason for the disclaimer though. Im happy to, and have, voted for very socialist policies here but its the human rights abuses driving the need. I think that’s worth fixing. I dont care if people come here.
There needs to be an honest discussion about immigration. People can be deported already but also someone fleeing the risk of death or violence must be protected.
Rather than just rounding up peyote and sending them back, spend money on efficient processing & do it legally as per international law.
I'm sure they would if they could but that would basically mean stopping all organized crime people running to America isn't really their problem ya know? And another thing is a lot of times it's not even their citizens crossing our borders it's people being smuggled in as refugees
Not an expert but I assume it will cause an increase in prices of Colombian coffee and will drive consumers to coffee from other countries which will increase the demand for their coffee thereby driving up prices for those coffees - Starbucks uses Colombian and may switch
I just ordered a shitload of k-cups before the price gets jacked up. I'm sure vendors will raise prices regardless of where the coffee comes from.... because they can.
Agreed. I pack mine the night before to help with the early morning darkness. My tastebuds aren’t sophisticated enough to notice much difference. Probably because I put in 2 tablespoons (each) of sugar and half and half. It’s not really coffee at that point! 😂
Same! And also to my sister. I can quit almost everything not necessary for survival but coffee would be extremely hard. Greed is swallowing everything whole
k-cups deposit micro plastics into your coffee. grounds are so much better, better flavor and better for the environment, almost no plastic waste, i reuse my plastic coffee cans as planters and grow my own herbs and veggies.
I hate to say this as a New England resident, but that brand has never tasted quite right to me. At least the regular stuff. The flavored coffee is fine.
Any advice about a good reusable? The ones I've tried are either near impossible to get grounds out of or the grounds explode everywhere during brewing.
I’ve been using a pair of Keurig reusables for just about five years. The only issue I’ve had cleaning them is when I don’t bother to clean them today and the grounds tend to get real solid by tomorrow. A lesson learned.
You need to rinse the fine mesh portion of the reusable k cup after every use. If you do, no issues for about 2 years. Thats when i replace mine, and thats after daily use. After 2 years, youll start to notice coffee grounds getting through to your coffee as the seal on the k cup eventually loosens.
I read today that only about 20% of USA coffee imports come from Colombia, but you can bet every other coffee-producing country will raise prices anyway 😞 https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cdxny0lnyepo
Wait until ICE starts raiding meat packing plants. We better start hoarding bacon, too. Oh, wait, we can also look forward to tariffs on Canadian wheat. So much for our bagels, cereal, and bread (and beer). Yummy!!
"War on breakfast" indeed could be a viral winner for Ds, if it comes to pass now that Felon47 backed down to Colombia's sovereign authority. (I know the felon gaslights the opposite, but look at actual facts.) Colombia grows abt 1/3 of imports?. Scare may have been enough for Starbucks to up prices
if bird flu gets into one of those industrial farms, the entire region that is served by that industrial farm will have a gigantic egg shortage instantly. Even if that region is served by multiple farms.
They shut down a commercial farm here in north Alabama just before Christmas, and within the past two weeks Georgia and Ohio have taken a hard hit. Probably other states as well but I haven’t kept up.
It comes in waves. The short life cycle of chickens means that entire farms get wiped out, there's a shortage of chickens and eggs for weeks, and then it's back to normal. In Australia, the egg section of the supermarket is either full or empty or at least nearly empty.
the meat packing plants mostly use undocumented workers. They will be hit hard. Canadian bacon won't have this problem, except it will be hit by tariffs.
trust, they'll be "trump eggs" and he'll have his sloppy creepy illiterate signature stamped on every box...LOLOL so glad my neighbors all have chickens and we help each other around here.
That was so funny… I shared it on FB but omitted your name because I didn’t have your permission to make your account public, is it okay with you I quote you directly?
Between the oranges in California rotting on the ground because of no workers, high egg prices and now coffee tariffs he’s quickly making breakfast the most expensive meal of the day!
I am way more concerned about the cost of coffee. We are a country full of caffeine addicts about to resort to a life of crime to pay for our drug of choice.
Try Yerba Mate tea, it's much healthier than coffee, and is used in South America as a coffee substitute. You don't have to commit crimes for your morning fix. Lol
The writing is on the wall: tariffs and lithium poisoned Salad Bowl in CA. Get your "liberation gardens" planted well this spring. Look into raising quail for meat and eggs- they are easy and most cities don't have ordinances against them like they do chickens.
Any thoughts on steel imports being throttled by Canada and Mexico? It will impact new builds for homes and commercial buildings that use steel as the foundation. I would not be shocked if remaining inventory was seized for that stupid wall.
Maybe all the tariffs and getting the immigrants out of the country will crash the economy. He went bankrupt 6 or 7 times, and isn’t showing fiscal responsibility.
I remember that debacle he did in Atlantic City. We both watched about it on the local Philly news. The contractors fronted the supplies and labor, and he was to pay them back after the job was done. Instead he complained about shoddy workmanship and paid nothing, lives & businesses ruined.
Yes, he gets others to build but uses “shoddy” as an excuse not to pay them. Then they sue him and they can’t outlast him for years in courts. He ended up borrowing $ from the Russian mafia, as no bank would loan him money, the last was Deutsche Bank.
Bankruptcy is a grift. He buys a company sucks out all the cash like a vampire then goes moaning to a judge about how he just can’t make enough money to pay off his bills. He did it multiple times because it enriched him. Stop thinking like a poor person.
Given the current trend, the prices will go up and people won't be able to afford it. The Arabica bean is the most produced (at 75%), and Colombia is the world's second largest supplier, behind Brazil.
This will actually send StarChucks in Oz bloke, for the second time. Franchise agreements mean they must import US blends.
Australian importers are now going to scoop distressed Mexican and Colombian beans.
I need these. And I will personally go into every grocery store within a 25 mile radius of my home and surreptitiously stick them on eggs. Better yet, I’ll focus just on the red communities.
Oh, yeah but I'm Mexican-American and though it is sad what happened, I have nothing to feel guilty about i know what they did was wrong, horrible, and should never be forgotten which is why when we post these things it's to shame the people who think it was ok that he did that
For the love of God tell me where I can get some of those!? I just told my daughter I was going to start sticking sticky notes on all the empty eggshells in the grocery stores around my area.... This is so much better 🤣👏
I'm not planning on listing them, but i have started taking orders through my business profile on paypal :) right now I'm doing 3 for $5, or 20 for $30 with half of proceeds donated to the ACLU to help fight for immigrants rights, free shipping & ill donate end of each week's orders 🫶🏻
Pull it from stock images or a gif & either print at home, Walmart, or Fed Ex (the latter is safer, considering..., never mind, just us an independant print shop who'll give you a deal). You get this idea. Sell them & get them out everywhere. Or maybe Marc can send them to us & we can all do it!
But Trump labeled them all criminals. He lies and some suckers lick it up and spew it back up. Sumbitch still stole military money for his wall when Mexico laughed at his pathetic lying crap
Culture appropriation of other places is something we would never do. Like taking the name of another country and turning it into a place in Amerikkka. So when I type Columbia it autocorrected on my phone to where I am from. white people fucking blow donkey balls.

Words like your money are weird AF here. You seem to have no problem with my misspelling of Amerikkka but Columbia/Colobia you jumped right on to defend that country. But not proud of your own country. Irony.
You can depend on a price increase double of the tariff, higher if shortages occur. Business is in business to provide a service or product however ultimately it is to turn the largest net profit possible. This is done by increasing prices to just below where consumers quit buying.
Not all coffee comes from Columbia, but this will almost certainly be an opportunity for everyone shipping coffee or selling it to raise prices that will never go down.
Can't wait for the caffeine withdrawal.
Comments
1) Colombia & US, under Biden, didn't have issues. Agreements w/ countries is send the undocumented person back to native country,
2) No shackles & commercial plane (humane treatment),
3) No tariffs.
Colombia got what they wanted. Trump didn't get the "win" he thinks.
Doesn’t make much sense, right?
Pill little one!
Biden for everything from losing a left sock in the dryer to gas prices.
This is 100% Trumps fault

Importers shift their purchases to other countries: increase demand/prices for coffee from these alternative sources. And put downward pressure on Colombian coffee prices.

It's "COLOMBIA"
YES, I'M SHOUTING!
Apologies to all the other coffee growing countries, however Columbia needs a hand up, at the moment.
You can buy green coffee beans directly from the grower, handing them all the profit that usually goes to the processor, distributor, and retailer. And it doesn't cost you a penny more.
Roasting your own coffee is the new Resistance!
Now I use an oven and baking sheet. Much better control.
The most surprising thing about roasting on a flat baking sheet is that beans in a pile do not roast like beans spread widely. I think it has to do with CO2 outgassing.
I sepparated my beans on the sheet in rows, like a little farm.
Dark roast is not for the home-roaster who is faint of heart.
An extended first crack is a sign that the roast temperture is too low, or that the quality of the beans is uneven.
The first stage of roasting must be very hot and very fast. And then lower and slower.
However, as a general rule, a temperature of 430 F is far too low, and 480 F is far too high.
Beans that roast for more than 9 minutes at any temperature will start to shrivel, not roast. Aim for 6-8 min.
Not my oil!
You are preparing for the future.

The market has what is called Contango, meaning when the futures price is above the expected future spot price. That implies futures prices are falling. Backwardation is when the futures price is below the future spot price. This indicates futures price to increase.

I'm thinking of organizing tours to that location for our neighbors south of the borders. Would you be interested? Not cheap though.
He couldn’t even bother spelling the country he was insulting correctly 🤷♀️
America shoots itself in the foot again.
but Coffee isn't Columbia's only export. Lots of US firm could feel a pinch.
Oh wait....We're trying to speak with Maga. 🙄
What surprised me is that they backed off. Landing a US military plane in a foreign country though is intimidation.
He'll later tell us how much it cost as a symbol of "how bad it was".
It could have been 90% cheaper...or more if they'd only focus on criminals and not hard working, innocent families who contribute to this country every day.
Brazil, and some blends (Mtn Expresso, Breakfast, Winter Cabin). There might be one from Colombia, too. I like the guys who run it with sustainability in mind. They always include a trivia note in the box. Smooth enough to drink black.

Since 9/11, our ports are under TSA jurisdiction.. you can't even get onto the property illegally
If lawyers can make money representing these so called nonexistent workers, I'd say you're wrong.
undocumented workers arrested (detained) working for ports ... 0
longshormen arrested (detained) for being undocumented ... 0
You're an artist, not an intellectual..
You keep conflating immigrants with undocumented immigrants...
Labor strikes, like the recent dockworkers’ strike involving 45,000 members of the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA), can create a precarious situation for immigrant workers.

...tell me you don't know shit about your own business without using those words...
That's why the us exports so much of it's crude to also import a large amount.
(Even Russia still) Because it's always been geared to process imported crude.
I'm not where near an expert Mark but here's what I found.
The US is the largest trading partner of Colombia (over 25%) High tariffs would have been very painful. They and the rest of the world are already doing worse economically than the US
Our economic 'soft landing' was thought to be be almost impossible. (respect to Biden and the Fed).
I'm not sure whether this exercise helped inspire other nations to also stand up or (more likely) showed that it's a futile gesture).
to in order for Columbia to allow USA planes to land in Columbia and offload passengers? It sure as heck didn’t happen cuz of idiot boy’s prowess.
Thanks for posting here.
🕊✌️
I was referring to the branding when it's "Biden's fault" versus the branding when it could be Trump's fault.

Way to go 🤡tard
maga will tell us, has nothing to do with capt. bonespurs, fucking around with tariffs
He also worse a shirt that said that as well, so that might have been part of the reason.
That’s how it all started.
🙄🤪
By Tuesday, it will be the Harris administration’s fault
By Wednesday, Michelle Obama will be responsible and by Friday, Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger will be at fault
Side note: Who else's phone no longer spells "duck" on first try anymore? 🦆
It was a joke I made about how gop talking points and their beloved blame game is never based on reason.
My phone spells “fuck” just fine.
kidding around. Its the vaccines and you know it!

And the rest of the oligarchy
They did say Nero, i mean Dumpty would be the last Emperor, i man president
He's a tyrant in the making and tyrants rely on a massive military that isn't based on voluntary service (because that costs too much for their liking)
So he's going to have to introduce the draft
I am going to SCREAM with laughter when MAGA discovers that part
CLICK.
Any links to who is organizing this proposed general shutdown?
Info would be appreciated. 😊
@shutdown315.bsky.social .
I think that's the problem.
No one seems to know much about it.
I used the link and didn't get much info.
And what's there is confusing and even seems limited.
Not good marketing.
This is something we ALL can do. The question is whether enough of us WILL do it.
Wait till i tell you about how we just won hundreds of billions in renewables investment because Dumpty nukes offshore turbine licences...it gets better.
Oh, and allowing US banks to trade-hold crypto. Oz banks are forbidden... GFC2.0
90% of farm workers are immigrants, 50% of those undocumented.
Who is going to work in the fields. Americans are too lazy..
😘
Coffee=Colombia
I just shot that one off while I was drinking my first cup of coffee.
It’s just more propaganda from the FOTUS
Just like with Canada. Just like with Greenland.
B) he doesn’t understand he cannot fight multiple fronts and win, he can’t concentrate on one after another as they will protect each other
C) he wants to pull from nato which means no backup
https://open.substack.com/pub/sethabramson/p/the-trump-colombia-crisis-that-trump?r=5wdm&utm_medium=ios
Tariff = consumer tax
Trump’s going to show the world…
about as well as Hitler did. ☠️
Columbia mainly exports unprocessed beans.
US roasters would import about 50% of the green coffee beans from Columbia.
More than 50% CoGS would be processing and packaging. 10% profit margin
.5*.25*.5*.9~5.6%
But there's only seven of them on the shelf. 30% less supply than demand.
Do the last four unlucky customers pay only 10% more than the regular price as they try to outbid each other?
Or do they spend a crap-load more?
Will it hurt Americans? Yeah.
Will it double coffee prices? No.
Because, historically, the price of coffee has to only go up a mere 50 cents a pound (adjusted for inflation) to put the US in a lynch mob mood.
I'm surprised Ethiopia and Uganda aren't higher up that list or is that a consumer preference thing?
A 25% tariff on Colombian coffee can significantly impact coffee futures, and whether to buy or sell depends on your strategy and market expectations. Here’s how the tariff might influence coffee futures:
$900,000 a pop
This is where America gets bananas coffee and cocaine. Gonna be a weird year with everyone Jonesing and having to take giant potassium pills

I am ready for the Coffee Coup I guess!
Another scripted Trump event.
They always accepted commercial airline passengers, not army planes.
He is such a bully !
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/colombian-leader-quickly-caves-after-trump-threats-offers-presidential-plane-deportation-flights
Obviously the direct cost increase is 25% but that doesn't reflect the total cost of sales or the margin so it is likely to be significantly less in percentage terms of the price.
"The cops were suspect when Don Jr would leave with a hint of white on his nose, but he claimed to have federal protection so he was left to go off on his own" will be in a newspaper one day
$$ they could make from drilling. They really don’t care if you happen to live in a blue state.
They call it a "sin" when they don't believe in God or a hell, otherwise they wouldn't do the shit they do.
It's just to appeal to easily led Christians, to get them to side *against* a person of the clergy.
If a reported asked them to their face on camera, they would act unaware, then say "I'll look into it..."
Author Donald Trump
That argument implies that they would want to do what's best for the country if they understood. Im sorry if this seems harsh, but these people are strip mining your economy and this just comes across as an excuse for them. Affluenza made them do it.
Excellent !
Someone should throw that idea at him, just for fun. He's dumb & gullible. Convince him legalizing cocaine to collectvtaxes will really stick it to Columbia.
If it works, someone get him mad at Jamaica.
I have spent way more time than anyone else in the world, apologizing to him today. I hope he forgives me! 🙏
Although, I am curious of his stance on foreign relations. Broad Street Bullies, were actually tough. Not like the dude in office now, with those bone spurred feet. 😂
Mineral fuels
In 2023, the US imported $7.19 billion in mineral fuels, oils, and distillation products
I forgot how much that petulant little boy gets a thrill out of shaking the global ant farm.
well now enough is enough!
Let’s watch how that one lasts.
Typical addict behavior....he'll self-destruct instead.
He’s so fucking cooked.
The new stress will not be his friend!
I hate trump with all my being!
Lincoln is legendary not because he punished people but because he liberated people.
Mandela is legendary not because he punished people but because he liberated people.
Churchill is legendary not because he punished people but because he liberated people.
Stalin is infamous because he punished people.
North Korea is infamous because he punishes people.
Where is autocorrect when you need it?
Donny2Scoops may be dumb but his inbreds are "special assistance" level
1) You are a fascist; 2) the Gilded Age (1870s-1890s) is clearly the blueprint for this "Golden Age" you speak of, but you idiots would have to know any history to be aware how unoriginal you are; 3) your father doesn't love you.
#NotOurPresidentEver according to Malcolm Nance and I couldn't agree less.
Any wars by us are gonna be wars of aggression, as our threats are all from within. Internal strife will make warring difficult.✌🏻
*Disappointing
Tough to speak for others, especially when far too many of your own so-called leaders are in bed with not only our current aspiring Dick-Tater, but also with his Daddy in Moscow.
Watching us is probably like me watching y'all getting duped by Brexit... I was like NOOOOO!!!✌🏻
What that looks like?🤷🏻♂️
I've said for decades that my only hope was that the revolution be (mostly) peaceful, but history says no.✌🏻
Downtrodden citizens (unemployed vets, work-release convicts?) will pick up the slack, they hope.🤷🏻♂️
Another part of the long-term plan is that forcing the births of millions of unplanned/unwanted pregnancies will result in a cheap domestic labor force in 12-15 years. Crazy times.✌🏻
Rather than just rounding up peyote and sending them back, spend money on efficient processing & do it legally as per international law.
Probably be the best place to buy bulk coffee at a reasonable price. On lots of stuff actually
I just can’t do it

The #Rubes are so goddamned gullible
by trains to British Columbia.
Sometimes the child has to get burned to learn their lesson
Sadly everyone’s going to feel the pain this time, not just the child
It's unbelievable, sure. But I'm really tired of trying to reason with people. Too tired to care what happens to this country anymore.
Let it go. Can't help stupid.
It's going to get incredibly complicatedly ugly isn't this?
Australian importers are now going to scoop distressed Mexican and Colombian beans.
Think they’re gonna come in handy over the next couple years.
Hmm... escorted out of White House in handcuffs...
Cargo plane... Un-determined destination...
Oh, and he owes Jimmy Carter one day of lowered flags in the capitol.
That leaves just 29 days left on his account when it finally comes due.
Can't wait for the caffeine withdrawal.
The Brits are coming around to coffee, so maybe?
