Okay, let's get nostalgic
What was the VERY FIRST online platform that you became addicted to posting on?????

It was there that I became a Poster, though I have long since lost all of my posts there
The board's untimely demise will be VERY well documented in my upcoming book: https://hollywoodfreaks.net
Met a couple folks there, and even got Springsteen tix for helping someone out.
Once I could get my thoughts out without hunting and pecking, it was all over for you bitches
She was too much of a bigot and control freak to cede power to another woman
Beck was an early Prodigy/AOL favorite when he blew up in 93/94
Thank God for the Beck zines of the 90s for preserving some of that online discussion, e.g. the below
Happy New Year’s 🥳!
Well yeah that board was massive in my life
I got together with my first real girlfriend because I read her aloud a post I’d written on FMBB about how I liked her
Can still remember some of the ridiculous arguments I got in in-between posting about Degrassi and RFR LOL
The internet didn’t even exist back then.
Still perfectly cis at the point, ofc
Got banned for nothing.
Went away for a year.
Came back after Drew was begging for money.
Got banned for posting a gif in a TFD thread.
Asked why my post was still up if it was against the rules.
Banned for life.
I hear it's still online and has a plethora of mini games and stuff to do on top of forums and such but "back in my day" 👴....... There was forums and collecting cosmetics for your avatar lol
I'd do art commissions for Gaia currency, collect swag and chill in the anime forums
It's like 90% Facebook minigames now lol
So that the dystopian future could grow..................
WITHOUT THE NEON AESTHETIC!! NOT LIKE THIS!
1987
Probably better. I would have embarrassed myself. I did get made a mod of the forums, though, and I stayed on the boards long after I lost interest in the actress

it was the "Philosophy Forum" attached to the Darwin Awards website. Got in a lot of dumb/fun arguments there, lots of self-important jerks to get put in their place. Looks like it died sometime after 2018.
Not a good way to start, to be honest. Lot of stupid people there.
That site was so chock full of incredible information back in the day.
I didn't get to see them live until 2003, and I was always sad I missed that 2001 tour because those shows were legendary.
When they did “True Love Waits” I nearly plotzed
Then CompuServe, on the Mensa board there. All that I know about online communities, flame wars, comment spam, flounces, etc.
… I learned there in 1992-5
I had to install the modem in my Zeos 385-25, along with a Soundblaster card
I only drew original characters that were furries just for the fun of it, because the Oekaki BBS was on a 18+ Japanese Furry/Kemono site.
Welp.
not the oldest oldhead answer there is but its mine
For it's time, it was a cool concept of chat groups based on interests. I think it was a year before Yahoo chat became really popular. Then I was addicted to Yahoo racing chat
I'll never forget my dad reading an article in...
Like 95% of the site got put on the internet archive. Enjoy.
Having said that, IRC chat. Was mine. 1995 Joined a channel to learn Italian. Loved it.
Made my way up to MOD, and lemme tell ya... Nobody likes being moderated more than a bunch of porn junkies...
Then, in order:
- Diaryland
- LiveJournal
- Electrical Audio's message board
- MySpace
- Facebook/Twitter
In the late 80s, I graduated from College and went to work for them. And actually wrote the software that made Forums work.
Now where I discovered posting but was too shy to join, there was a group of about a dozen people doing RP in fantasy movie soundtrack Pandora comment sections...
PoE
😩
The second tho, was a site where a bunch of videogame rpg nerds ran "who would win" contests based on actual in-game math and mechanics instead of plot power or vibes. And while the tourneys are long past, the gang still hangs out in discord~
If not, web comic forums in the early 2000s.
There were four threads, IIRC.
Including the Green Lantern sub-forum…
