Sad news about the Happy Heat Pump Podcast.
Sorry to say, that after about 20 episodes, we’re drawing it to a close at the request of the BBC which worries it may be seen as steering into areas of public controversy.

Thanks to the thousands of folks who’ve listened. The episodes will remain online.. a great introduction to heat pumps.
I guess you only did the show for the recognition & not because you believed in the content?
How fitting that on Earth Day 2025 (Our Power, Our Planet), you capitulate to culture war nonsense
https://www.vogue.co.uk/article/mishal-husain
Had anyone even complained?
Because I'm about to!
Remember when the Director General told BBC staff not to go to Pride?
https://www.thepinknews.com/2020/11/05/bbc-director-general-tim-davie-pride-staff-ban-controversial-lgbt-transgender-rules/
This Lord Sugar post (one of many) didn’t seem to be an issue
Nor - given how high profile the show is - is Diary of a CEO?!
Happy #EarthDay
It’s like the BBC saying you can’t do a podcast about toasters
Like climate change?
Wtf
What's the argument?
It doesn't exist ??
When there is nothing to back up the "argument" , just inconvenience, it is NOT a valid argument
Fuck.
Your good work has not gone to naught.
Did the BBC provide any further explanation of what they deemed controversial about the subject?
Utterly shameful.
The BBC is a fascist organisation that promotes Farage and squashes any other voice. It’s just the mouthpiece of the government / right
Sorry that they've got it so wrong, yet again.
I've not tried listening (2nd floor flat) but I do listen to BBC stuff about airfryers. Are they going next?
Do the BBC do a podcast about propane gas barbecues for balance?
I tried to insert barbecues, but they didn't fit
But I've been warned it might take weeks to go live.
Wait for it please, and show your support when it does.
I have just had my gas boiler replaced for a shade over£2,000.
Two quotes for a heat pump were over £12,000.
The Gas quote will be to swap a box on the wall for another. Done by one or two people in day.
The HPs will be for redoing rads, pipes, possibly adding a cylinder (£1k itself) etc....
HPs can be had for under £2k now (tbf most are £4k) and whilst they don't make massive ££ savings due to the high price of⚡vs 🔥...
They also cut our national dependency on gas.
These are not controversial or political points.
Some people are getting heat pumps installed for nothing as the £7.5k grant covers everything, others are paying under £2k on top of the grant
Your circumstances may be different, but you can’t draw conclusions from one data point
I’d still make the same choice you did
But as I have just changed my gas boiler for another one, I did a lot of research first into HPs to see if one was a viable solution for me.
It wasn't.
I will never save the £10k difference in installation in the remainder of my lifetime.
Let’s see a selection of podcasts on home tech lined up - and consider if the BBC would ban you from being the host of some of them?
It’s a BS pretend controversy
Manufactured in Tufton St
To please their oil Baron paymasters
Why TF is BBC so stupid? 😡☹️😢
Why does it always seem to be the right wing that exerts this kind of pressure?
I struggle to think of a similar issue that has had the effect of making the BBC stop doing something the other way around.
I do sometimes wonder if this is the kind of bias people talk about.
This makes no sense.
The original Drilled podcast is also superb and covers a lot of this.

Any reference to fossil fuel usage must have a counter point.
I think it's about a poor internal understanding of what makes a topic "controversial".
It's far too easy to point to political point scoring, or social media, or traditional media, and say "this topic is controversial".
Heat pumps are not the controversy
They are now at the point where they’ll both sides existential threats to human civilisation, and genocide.
The moral bankruptcy of that is shameful.
What's talked about far more is the lie that the BBC is left of centre.
Next, for a balanced discussion, we must invite the National Front.
Lowest hanging eco-fruit
Thing that is heat pumps
Be seen as controversial in any way
AT ALL?
What TF is going on at the BBC Evan?
Are they totally captured
By right wing, climate denying, idiots?
No surprise given failure to report on either far-right/Corporate issues not least all the shit Trump is doing in the US and not being reported in the main news cycle.
The nonsense brigade are well funded by the likes of the fossil fuel industry, the BBC doesn't need to chime in with its own assistance.
Simple rule. Is it factual? Yes? Then...
Apparently I work in a woke office?
If not, it is still less political that the BBC still being on Twitter/x
Thank goodness you didn’t do a podcast on politics.
Hadn't heard of your podcast before, but will now have a listen.
You'd have thought tory-leaning governors/NEDs would find much to like here.
Madness!
270mm of fibreglass is fine. Regs are 0.16W/mK^2
Is controversy okay if it comes in the form of a racist grifter?.
Is “Chem Trails Today” going to be taking its slot?
That's obviously the direction of travel by it's directors and has been for years.
Hysterical propaganda to protect the rich and the royals is all that will be allowed, no facts allowed.
BBC management is full of oil company bought idiots, they seem to believe that their families and descendants won’t be impacted by climate change.
Get out of the silo. Got anything else to do?
I'd not heard of it before the furore, downloaded and listening soon.
The Streisand effect strikes again.
They are pretty expensive but use less energy- because that last bit is simple science.
The harder they stamp the bigger it gets.
Make it an indie production and release it through non-BBC outlets.
Although it's probably too late as just ordered our system to replace the gas boiler.
Our mission is "to act in the public interest, serving all audiences through the provision of impartial, high-quality and distinctive output and services which inform, educate and entertain".
You were!!!!
This is just the last month. None of this is ok 🫠

Suggesting that the current (Renewables / EV) electric / Net-zero transition timelines (2030 / 2035 / 2050) are somehow "controversial" is laughable.
What a backward, spineless country Britain has become.
North Sea Gas should have been used for cleaner electricity, and electricity used to heat homes.
Both sides?
1. Those who think it makes things warmer. (The ones outside)
2. Those who think it makes things colder. (Refrigerators)
Sorry to hear this Evan
Beware letting it slide. We should have been actively protesting Fox Newstainment long ago.
get someone else to present it - worked well for Lineker.
a series on solar would be great too
bbc are being utterly ridiculous on this. I thought their role was to inform which HHP pod - despite not being a bbc thing - was doing nicely.
* broadening it to all other alternatives too. and maybe appease the nutters by doing an ep on continued use of gas?
Not 'to pander, offer platitudes, lie prostrate'
Political interference is intentionally eviscerating the #BBC
Editorial cowardice is enabling it (but jobs in independent journalism are hard to come by these days).
You can do it!!!!!
I really enjoyed it.
#climate #bbcfail #netzero
You still take their coin.
It is the reckoning and what price your integrity.

Any BBC Staff associated with their promotion should be sacked.
Because Robbie Gibb says so?
See, they are all the same...
2. The ideology on the other side is "eff that", I googled it and found something better.
Not the same.
#1 can put people on the Moon and make antibiotics. #2 can pray for these.
Good thing is the back catalogue is staying up at least!
Thank you - will enjoy listening and this is a live issue as current boiler coming to end of shelf life...
that would mean....shit, I don't know what it means, I'm in America. I'm already fcked
Is the BBC being lent on by the fossil fuel companies?
Presidents of foreign countries?
Wait for it please, and show your support when it does.
Here we are again.

National Scandal! 😂

As with Brexit it's not what the say but what they DON'T say that's the problem.
It does seem we're heading back to the bad old days now Farage and Badenoch have clicked their fingers and decided it's to be a topic of "controversy" once again.
Since when was training about a true and trusted solution to an everyday problem controversial?
Understand your position but what a stupid decision.
Anyone challenged BBC on this based on their Charter?
