OK, not a one-to-one comparison, as Americans have no fascination with the quarter-zips. But people who insist that Zelenskyy should have worn a suit should answer a very simple question. Would Trump and MAGA have a different position on Ukraine if Zelenskyy wore a suit this entire time?
Comments
This American, for one, definitely has a fascination with a well worn quarter zip. 😅
he's full blown kool-aid drinker. Hoped for the Jan6th Pence, but we got the Bobert reach around.
Personally, I thought Zelenski was sharp as a tack in his chosen attire.
Zelenskyy dressed clean & neat in his business casual my country has been ravaged by war for three years attire. Churchill didn’t wear a suit either.
These are not serious people with legitimate complaints, they are scumbags making up controversies to help Putin.
The viewers of the Monday Night Football Mannigcast beg to differ
If you answered no, then I think we agree that this is just a pretense. Trump's position on Ukraine is not about clothes. And MAGA follows whatever Trump says.
Check out Modi wearing traditional Indian attire at the White House.
Should he have worn a western suit?
Zelensky is the head of a country at war with a murderous dictator. He dressed as a reminder of that.
Perhaps that's what bothered them so much.
If he goes in WITH a suit, he's showing his contempt for the US and flaunting his wealth, "rubbing it in the American public's collective face that he's stealing their tax money"
With MAGA, you just can’t reach them anymore. It’s all Glorious Leader now. Basic shame is all gone…
Thank you for the ring leader clarification to that conspiracy circus…
Strange.
Go away vatnik
And again. why do you think a suit would change anything?
And the suit alone means nothing.
Dictator?
The shirt he usually wears has the Cross of Ukraine, an emblem of his country’s armed forces. It’s symbolic, like Trump’s tan and combover.
But Gym Jordan tho.
I shudder to imagine who that might be.
"Oh we've got him now!!!"
I will bet $100 that the Musk comparison didn't even occur to Marge and company when they were thinking this up last night.
I understand it, but at the same time, really?
It can't magically create those qualities in me, however. I'm well aware that I'm basically just playing dress-up to trick my subconscious.
We've still got the money and you've got puerile slogans. Status quo ante suits me beautifully.
Basically because they’re the ones in power, ruling for them, stealing our money and, why not say it, stupid fucking assholes 99% of the time.
The tighter the suit, the more imbecile.
(Apologies to Scousers out there.)
Stolen valour. If anything *this* is the most disrespectful dress.
The notion that the western style of formal dress is the only acceptable thing to wear.
But I do try to not hold it against suit wearers as a class.
"They can buy, but can't put on my clothes."
Not just clothes but the look in general. Trump himself clearly (and openly) factors appearance into his appointments.
And yeah, lol.
Plus, it’s not like their suits are good :P
(And it was never about his attire too, as we know.)
This is the real reason maga is so upset.
And tell the world that everything's okay
But I'll try to carry off a little darkness on my back

And Zelenskyy’s visual solidarity with Ukrainians fighting for their lives and sovereignty is more important than playing dress up to please powder puffs in DC.
But I don't think you need to be a fashion expert to understand the message Zelenskyy is sending with his wardrobe. It's just that the message—"I am fighting a war, and I am not going to quit"—isn't the message Trumpists wanted to hear.
Zelensky dresses as soldier, but not in the battledress of the front line, or the regalia of an officer, but as someone who is the servant of the people.
Also, those who mistake clothing with character, tend to have better clothing than character.
Churchill wore denim and corduroy boiler suits throughout ww2 no one complained.

From a Ukrainian seller 😉
Can’t wait to sport it out and about to show my support. Kind of like their red hat.
It will be my uniform until our war is over.
3 cheers for thrift stores & eclectic, individual tastes!
For example, it is fairly common in the western US to wear bolos, instead of neckties, with suits. Both are conforming, but which one someone chooses can tell you something about them.
The form of law, no justice.
The form of courage with only cruelty inside.
The claptrap of culture with nothing but Moloch inside.
Every smirking asshole in that room knew this.
It was performative humiliation.
There could hardly be a less appropriate question to put to Zelenskyy right now and every legitimate reporter should be embarrassed they have that person among them - even the one from TASS.
I'd say he knows his way around a well-decorated, somewhat well-lit set.
*setting aside all hifalutin social registers
I paraphrase, because I can't remember it properly. And it might be in German.
It's all packaging & marketing for the vile human turds underneath.
Today was exhibit A with the only non-sociopath (or their toadies) not in uniform.
No amount of money and no particular clothing is a substitute for character or class. Those traits are an inside job.
What about what he's wearing though? Seems to me he shouldn't be smugly questioning another man's clothing choices.
It’s that what he’s wearing are military fatigues, in the mold of Fidel Castro. It’s a tough-guy costume. “I’m a heroic warrior.”
When you’re a statesman in the company of statesmen, well, I would have worn a suit and a Trump tie. (And I don’t even like trump)
Nobody is going to be drinking water under Putin's heel.
Zelensky both dressed as a soldier after losing his war, and had the temerity to argue and threaten America
There were threats in that room, but they came from the Trump admin
No arguing, no contradiction. And I’d have worn a suit as one does to a serious meeting.
He got into an argument when he didn’t need to and he got ejected from the White House.
It may not be fair or nice. But he was there on a job and he didn’t get that job done.
The wardrobe choice did not do him any favors.
So literally no one should ever respect anything you say. You’ve chosen to be like this to support fascism and betraying allies.

Respect is earned through consistent actions, intentions, grace and consideration. You don't get to be a criminal, misoginistic egomaniac then throw on a suit and demand respect. Hitler always dressed immaculately btw...
Not necessarily.
If you answer yes, then YOU think Trump and the MAGA movement is stupid. Matters of geopolitics should not be affected by issues of fashion.
Commenting negatively on your guest's attire? Vulgar.
That whole sideshow was classic Soviet style agitprop, meant for Daddy Vlade’s consumption.
It is not about dressing to show respect. It is about daring to stand up.

If you're going to ASK for money (and you're the sworn enemy of the pReSiDeNt'S sugar daddy), you're getting bullied whatever you wear. We don't make the rules.

(of course they were supposed to)
& He’d demand we enact #CivilSucession w/ 0️⃣ concessions! 🗣️ “Hey Hey, heave ho! These christofascists have got to go!!!” #deportfElon47 & #tre45on if we ain’t gonna hang them traitors like they deserve.

Assume, Zelenskyy would have worn a suit, the MAGA narrative would have been:
“See, the guy is at war but comes to the W.H. in an expensive suit to beg for money. This is evidence he wants to buy suits for himself with our money!”
And to all those who are bitching about Zelensky’s clothes: Stop telling yourselves that—as Americans—you love authenticity, you think the Indiana Jones bomber jacket is quintessentially American, you think Americanism is about not standing on ceremony, blah blah blah.
