I wrote about this a bit in my last book but it really shakes me that a defining feature of this catastrophic era is that we just keep going to work. We work through pandemics, we work through natural disasters, we work through economic calamity, we work through coups, we work, we work, we work.

It’s absolutely mind-boggling that the cycle of every day life stops for nothing Including pandemics, coups and economic disasters.

Doesn't that seem like a relevant question?
Do we have a right to know something like that?
What if there is a mass murder well poisoner,
still on the loose?

When I pushed back and said we deserve to keep it, my boss called me ungrateful. The fucking nerve.
We are sedated by this process, but as more our pushed out of the economy, the restraints to action wane.
When people have nothing left to lose, they fight like ghosts avenging the lives they had taken from them.
Identifying a systemic issue doesn’t require having a solution…
So he's not "helping" but it's "important" for him and others to constantly point out the obvious? Isn't that two
ways of saying the same thing?
I am worker me who has a lot of stuff to do
I am citizen me who is going through some stuff
No less depressing for the people living in it, though
Work stoppage coupled with some direct action would clear all this up methinks
No violence, no riots, no arrests (they can't arrest the entire working class). The simplest thing to do. Nothing
The working class stops working, the entire world stops
Which is why fascists intentionally wreck economies so they only serve their own corruption.

We will have to continue to work in order to survive.
Although if anyone wants to donate a million dollars so I can quit my job I’ll gladly accept the donation!
Then they put up tall guardrails that ensure we can't leave the purpose they gave us even if we catch a glimpse of a different one.
Then they convinced others of us to beat down those that try to climb the rails.
I could work from home on my own schedule and get more done
Cashiers could be allowed to sit instead of having to stand in place all day
But nah
I do not understand why cashiers cannot sit, like who *actually* thinks sitting degenerates or cheapens a product or service?
Cashiers sit all over the world, except here in the U.S.
♥️
conservativism at its core is the desire for the freedom to oppress
to make things right for you even as the world burns
Forcing someone to stand just seems to ⬆️ workers comp claims, if nothing else.
"At least we're still doing better than the US" has been almost mantra here for my entire life as those margins have gotten thinner and thinner, and safety nets we count on have more and more been changed to mirror yours
Our hope is that we learn from what's going on
PCP/walk-in & hospital/community care is covered under our provincial health care.
No one can afford to get fired. There are no food banks, unemployment pay is shit, and won’t count if you quit.
Most people have enough food stored for a week and need to feed their families.
We need money to live, so we work. But I also went to protests..

They keep working.
my dad admitted to this, that he used work to effectively escape from everything else he had been through, and he was a kid who survived WWII in Europe
we're beholden to old ideas and protecting old money, rather than any attempt at thriving
Turns out the revolution won’t be televised… it’ll be quietly postponed due to back-to-back meetings with a deadline we’re too burned out to question on our action item list.
The very notion that we should not have to provide for ourselves and our families in times of adversity is one available only to the professional dilettante with a naive assumption of largesse.
The alternative is to steal food or get a check from the government
Voters knew he was a failed businessman, a racist, and a liar but voted for him despite these obvious serious shortcomings.
but even if we were members of a nomadic tribe facing looming calamity, we would still need to go out in search of food, tend to our sick, look after our young, and find ways to bring levity and light to each other.
From feudalism onwards
It's certainly not the same -- so much harm to so many vulnerable people, for no legit benefit. But the work CAN bring joy.
See: The rest of Japan, 1945 and the rest of New York, 2001 (that one's not nuclear, just something most folks were around to witness)
But there is also a significant number of Americans that are not in this situation. I am not (yet).
Those of us who can must answer the call to strike!
I struggle now, though, thinking we should all be on general strike. It’s the realization no one is coming to save us.

I can’t even influence my own mom. I’ve tried for 8 yrs.
WORK WORK WORK

we can just stop taking their money, stop taking their shit, and it's all over
riches are meaningless if inequality is not addressed
This is how aristocracies form, when inequality makes it seem impossible to fight back with any form of agency.
Things change though, & by now the mask is off. Kill or be killed.
Scared the crap outta the powers that be so now, we have to overwork to afford living.
We can't afford NOT to work. For many, our healthcare is tied to our employment. Prices on everything are going up so working thru it is a necessity- not a choice.

Motherfucker

He will not stop until we make him stop. Politicians are not going to fix anything
