my bike was stolen last January. i contacted the police and told them that i had video evidence of the thief and a gps tag that said where it was. they shrugged it off and i just went and took the bike back myself with the help of a friend

a very funny eye opening experience many people have had about how the cops actually operate is this "hey i have a tracking beacon on this stolen item that shows exactly where it is can you arrest the guy who stole it?" and the cops go like "lol no that sounds like a lot of work"

she was buying a new bike
How in the world is that not Riverside PD jurisdiction? Come the fuck on.
He told the officer additional details- where the credit cards were being used and stuff.
Detective said, “hey, look at us, doing cop stuff together!”
That’s when I realized the police department is a deeply unserious organization.
I bought it back anyway
burglars could come into my house and take everything I own and I would expect them to do nothing at all.
1. Go (maybe with friend) to where tracking beacon and stolen bike is, but do not engage thief
2. Call police and say your bike has been stolen and you're near the perpetrator right now and need help
3. Squad car appears in about 45 seconds as you stroll up to the thief
Cops weren’t going to do squat
How's that go again?
I happened to get the license plate. Got home, the next morning i called the non emergency Baltimore police line to explain what i saw. They couldnt do anything
The police never came.

You better go back to from where you came

They didn't bother checking until after it already gone.
They were so pissed.
"Oh, you've uncovered that there's a drug problem in Mt Holly, NJ? Thanks, dude. What exactly do you want us to do?"
i'd rather get revenge myself, more satisfying
Followed him back to his restaurant and threatened to call the cops. They said it would be my word against theirs. I had hidden serial #. Ended up buying it back from them. Cheaper than replacing It.

Then they have the nerve to tell me that without funding the police, no one will enforce the law.
Police were not interested in doing jack shit.
Propose some supplemental digital detective force that only works crimes with clear digital proof.
The back door is later empowering them to review and handle routine police body cam footage.
At his sentencing, after it was revealed that he had a VERY extensive record, the judge said: Well, I guess prison didn't work. Let's try probation. 😱
Cops show up. I go downstairs and tell the cops what I saw and about the video. No statement taken, never called me, never asked to see the video
We had GPS on her bike, but not mine (it was brand new)
Cops refused to help even when we were watching these guys strip our bikes on their front lawn
Her mom in another state called the cops & said, "I haven't heard back since they confronted them"
Cops are useless, ineffective, and play bureaucratic games of "not my district, not my problem."
Cops only care when bigger money or influence is involved.
Track your shit and take action yourself, + don't get hurt over replaceable possessions.
They broke in again. 🙃
Reddit found the car for us and we stole it right back. Some hours later, one bored cop showed up to take a report and we told them they weren't needed.
A few bruises later, I had one of our bikes back. Then the cops showed up but still didn't do anything.
The next day, I saw my exact model show up on Craigslist, being sold by my neighbor. Had a specific knick in the plastic and a custom startup screen. Once again, cops wouldn’t do anything. :/
Great. GREAT. THANKS.
He was like “I can’t do anything with this. We can fill out a report now if you want though.”
Cops just shrugged at both.
I’ve never bothered reporting the lesser crimes since, and I’m sure that’s exactly what the police want.
The worst instance of police impotence was when I was sucker pynched by a drunk in a bar for complaining that he knocked over a bunch of drinks on me...
Long story short, the justice system doesn't care about crimes they think aren't worth their time. I've learned not to expect anything from them.
Police do nothing
e celebrity uses audience to find their car
police try to take credit after car recovery, because the theft stream is getting too much attention
The concept of "Broken Windows Policing" can actually be good and important if you don't do it in an explicitly racist manner and couple it with some actual root cause stuff.

Total fluke.

The driver was so impaired he fell asleep on his accelerator, burning his tires, and melding my car into a Jeep’s bike rack
The photos show the offender’s license plate, but BPD dropped the case in a day
(The owner of the Jeep bought me some consolation beers though, so that was nice…)
Are they just lazy and don’t want to do the work or am I missing something?
It wasn't until he tried to sell some of it that they did anything.
The police union feels more like a protection racket these days.
I told my wife, "I cannot imagine that happening in America"
Clear shots of both his face and the license plate.
Cops: We have no way to find him.
That's a direct quote.
Cops are a joke
