I’m sure the young guys who’ve been told the world owes them an easy life will jump at the chance to work a twelve hour shift at a blast furnace

White dudes are just bored, that’s why we need to destroy the economy.

That’s the world Trump wants us to return to

Life expectancy was "died in industrial accident".
Enshrine monopoly
Reindustrialize
Deregulate
End unions
Decimate social safety net
Nullify indie judiciary/legal profession
Handcuff dissent
Hamstring voting, buy elections
Centralize & arm surveillance/police/military
= desperate, powerless, hopeless, compliant, cheap feudal labor
C'mon ... people forget that the physical toll of factory work was often brutal. Besdies, today they aren't smoke-belching mills of the past, they’re mostly automated & sterile environments.
🤦♂️
My family is not unique in this way: this is just how things were. Go back? Hell no! #ConcedoNulli
Goodbye cardroom fever
Cotton dust has got my lungs
You know I'm bound to leave ya"
I think these people regret ever allowing women to learn to read. It was only supposed to be so that they could teach the children the Bible. Reading novels was forbidden. They were smuggled through neighborhoods and read to pieces.
That argument has always driven me crazy.
That will catch on for sure
The door hit my back as I fell, spun me around and clipped me a massive uppercut under my chin. Then I was six feet down on the tarmac staring up at a 6000 psi death machine.
That's the reality of industrial jobs
I never liked or enjoyed heavy aviation maintenance. I did it because it was a trade I learned in the military and it was income. The moment I could go back to school and finish my education was a godsend
The Triangle Shirtwaist factory fire of 1911 killed 123 women and girls and 23 men. The two owners locked the doors—a common practice at the time to prevent workers from taking unauthorized breaks.
And if that happened? You just lost your job and they hired another drone to do it. Tough luck.
From Morgan Housel's "The Psychology of Money."
Do they think they'll become master craftsmen?
Do they not understand they'll be standing on an assembly line screwing in the same bolt a thousand times a day while developing repetitive use injuries and dreaming of the email job in their former life?
This is the dark side of the "33 million small businesses" stat, a lot of those are below size thresholds for a lot of labor regulations to apply. Maimed without recourse still happens.
This has been "the underground economy" in the US the whole time.
Every middle-aged and older RN I worked with, and even some doctors, discouraged me. They all said, “you’ll get hurt.” 😞
It still suffers from sewage runoff, like many US cities, but kayaks are now common, there are swim days in the Anacostia River, and a feasibility study was done on reopening DC beaches.
Yay, factory work with no protections.
The WOMAN in the family had to enter the workforce. Typically at a much lower wage than what her husband could earn to put food on the table.

Retvrn...to racism.
For those that have never experienced it, there is no hourly pay for what you do. You are only paid for the amount of work (the # of pieces) you finish. So the harder you work, the more $$ you can make. But you are worn out at the end of the day.
I was completely exhausted at the end of the day and had a new appreciation for the women who did that job daily.
"They come to work every day. They don’t cause drama. They’re on time.”

another hopes that they will meet their demise on the blast furnaces and the like
at $7.25/hour
Show us how it’s done, sweetheart.
He's going to see his own sad, overworked face in the shiny metal surface.
Look no farther than your local FARM they need workers to harvest their produce, are you up to it?? Nope. So stop your whining and then starve.
and hmm...i do believe its the american businesses firing american workers
"Persistent Labor Shortages are Endangering US Manufacturing Output
Labor shortages in the US manufacturing sector have become a critical challenge, threatening the industry’s stability and growth"
Tell that to my neighbors in farming
With no shame no boundaries
Good luck
On that outlet
Maybe they need to start a grape vine league orca hen laying league , an apple picking league
Beef tip & beer brewing league
There are days I miss being an assembler, but the work in R&D is way easier on the body.
R&D also pays better.
If it was the same pay, I’d still prefer R&D but on a 60/40 ratio instead of 98/2.
When I worked for a Japanese auto part supplier in the 90's we had a few table top solder robots.
Checkmate atheists.
I went from dead end call center career full of bait and switch jobs that barely paid enough to live on to making a vaccine and getting paid better than ever and working 14 days a mnth
2) A modern steel plant barely has humans in it. As Trump would say: "Everything is computer."
3) A few weeks in a meat plant would help them get over their delusions about the romanticism of factory life. Believe me, you want an email job.
Still an amazing parody of libertarians.
God, there's got to be a better way.
Of course not.
Could it be that their idols pulled that Carrier Furnace PR stunt in 2017, -within a couple of months the factory was moved to Mexico?

It’s happening now. 🟠 & the Boer 🧛🏻 are letting white people know that civil rights weren’t only for black people.
They couldn’t deal with losing a digit let alone a whole limb.
Or an eye.
Or a good part of their hearing.
Good times.
Les Miserables again exists.
“Let them eat cake!”
And a woman’s place is selling herself.
1: shit management abusing them
2: the job doesn't actually pay enough for them to do anything else with their life, (else is eating up so many hours they now can't do anything else with their money.)
It's also possible to work for a company whose mission you hate, true; IME, what they call a pointless email job can usually feel more pointless if the workplace makes things you don't love. But ...

“This bill will make it easier for teenagers seeking job opportunities in the state to begin learning valuable skills,” said Sen. Rollan Roberts, R-Raleigh, on the Senate floor before passing the bill.
Valuable skills.

If that's where the workforce is coming from, then good luck.

I hate it
So much
-you’ll be working so f’n hard excess weight will disappear.
-alcohol abuse is a common sleep aid for swing shift workers, and divorce is common but short-lived as swing-shift workers have lower life expectancies
-carpel tunnel pain can be lessened by severing the nerve

And Crystal and Candy…
These are the girls of the U.S.A.!”

Granted, that wasn’t your original point and I was being a snarky crank. Sorry, I do apologize. I realize, in the context, your validity: it’s the Pitt-Norton version that’s pop traded among them
The reality is going to come as as a bit of a…um, surprise.
Every stitch on every piece of clothing they own, including their shoes, was hand sewn. Clothing manufacturing is all hand work.
I’m sure they would love to work 10-hour days sitting in front of an industrial sewing machine in a hot, crowded garment factory.
Made me think , "Abandon all hope ye who enter."
I would not like to be working with a bunch of reckless "bros".

counter point
they will shut up here?
These people probably bellyache about having to mow their lawn but they want to cosplay as tradespeople and laborers
I'll see myself out.
Florida needs workers here for these jobs only the immigrants will do. Instead of having children at age 14 do those jobs(DeSantis proposal)
Why not come on down here. Florida has plenty of work for you and your bored white boy-friends
He lasted less than a week and then decided that maybe college wasn't so bad after all.
