This post will generate angry responses, insults. etc. But important info here. Outside the coasts/Beltway, it appears that SOME of what Trump is doing is generating support, is popular with his base. Politically complicates situation for Dems too. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-approval-opinion-poll-2025-2-9/

We’re not stupid. We know prices are up since Trump took office.

Don't play.
You're the closed loop, it's you personally
In the second place, if you examine how the responders feel about his actual performance with specific issues, they are closer to tied and often less favorable.
Consider, the more people hear about Trump's Gaza proposal, the more they dislike it.
Trump's success in getting his approval high with his base and Trump keeping his support from Republicans isn't that important.
Trump's is causing harm and many are pissed.
Very thankful Eric reports on this, but we deserve a right to be angry as hell and hate Trump
Telling the whole story does not mean hiding truth.
Aloha 🤙🏼

Midwest and rural here and your take is insulting .
I totally see and feel the harm that is being unleashed.
PS reevaluate your assessment of yourself
Clueless is as clueless does
> implying said colleagues aren't just as bad
People with jobs and lives also have opinions, you know.
Speaking of closed loops
wow i didn’t know that, I just- you’re telling us for the first time
Also, why do you think we all live on the coasts or in the beltway? I live with these people. They don’t understand any of it and think people don’t like Trump because of mean tweets.
Instead you are all just starfuckers gargling each other's balls.
When really you perfectly understand that our government prints the dollars you have in your pocket
Which is why you’re carrying water for Trump
do you hear yourself?
You know, like the DOZENS of articles you wrote about Biden?
Lecturing us on how to read polls just reenforces your priors.

Maybe ask people if they think Trump should be breaking laws and undermining the constitution to get his way — or if he should be guiding policy within statutory and constitutional constraints, and suggesting changes via congress where he thinks that is appropriate.
One can recognize something is popular and morally abhorrent. But this requires having principles beyond cowardice and unmoored, vacuous moral relativism.
We understand. We understand what they're asking for better than they do.
How do y’all at the NYT and WaPo, etc. do this with a straight face? You must think we’re so dumb.
You asked for rants. Happy to oblige.
Agree: 54%
Disagree: 27%
Unsure: 19%

The important thing to ask isn't "are people happy about it," it is 1) "is this legal" (it almost certainly isn't) and 2) "what are the actual consequences of it?"
"What people think" isn't the news.
We don’t “keep in mind, others see it differently” and respect the fact they don’t know about the fire
I guess you’re built different
- still have landlines
- answer unknown numbers
Any “representative sampling” of the population that fits these two factors is a subset at best.
Breaking News will never be your headline I guess. 🤷🏼♀️
In this same journalist's timeline: https://bsky.app/profile/ericlipton.nytimes.com/post/3lhoktgnjxc2s
This is classic prototype NYT misreading the zeitgeist 🤦🏽♂️
This doesn't complicate things for Dems because that base despises Dems & running AGAINST that base wins them other voters that are looking for values alignment
How do you not know this
How do you not understand Haters after a diss track ended up at the Super Bowl
The press seem only too ...
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2025/feb/08/donald-trump-media-coverage
He gives all those "press conferences", "interviews", and "Truths" to keep himself centered in the media. I just counted 23 stories on the online WaPo front page with "Trump" in the title. He gives all those "press conferences", "interviews", and "Truths" to keep himself...
When I search a newspaper data base that generates a listing of stories from the WaPo ...
Trump dedicates most of his energy, for at least the past 50 years,to keeping himself in the news. Eventually NYC got tired of, and then repulsed, by all things Trump. ...

You know how in Star Trek, the Klingons have the Rite of Ascension where they have to get shocked by painstiks? Imagine that but you getting kicked in the nards.
However there are a large portion who believed him saying I’ll end Ukraine war day one and food prices down
McConnell made a path for trump, musk, scotus, oligarchs, maga to walk on. He is mentioned in this
But seriously, this should give you some amount of pause. What the Trump admin is doing is objectively destructive and bad for Americans. If Americans support it, it means there's a gap between reality and the news they read.

Internet has made it normal for anyone to take a big ole fat dump and put their name and faces on it with pride.

need to wait to see if it's a pattern.
musk is unpopular.

His net positive rating was consistently in double digits.
Oh and then crying when people are mean to them and stop subscribing
Someday they’ll wake up to the fact that the criticism they are getting from decent Americans is valid and not partisan.
I hate their “post reality” world.
The New York Times is beyond embarrassing.
Your job is to highlight the outlier and disparage the rest. Because you're a wilful fascist collaborator.
And when this is done, we will remember.
But to say there's actual support for Musk and Trump dismantling the system of governance that has given Americans unprecedented prosperity and security for 80 years is absurd.
Trump's numbers are a plus 6. Hurts my head, but it is low by historical standards
In my salad days in Illinois, I took the wheel of a tractor and worked a drop hammer.
I am sure that there's no judicial precedent directly on point. A reasonable person would just go for it and let the courts sort it out later. If it turns out that we were well intentioned but wrong about the law, we can talk remedies at that point.
-You
1: Campaign on autocracy
2: Purge the bureaucracy
3: Ignore the courts
4: Co-Opt the Congress
5: Centralize police and powers
6: Shut down elite media and academic institutions
7: Turn out the people
Do whatever it takes to destroy democracy.
Yeah, let’s delete their federal largesse and let their communities collapse and go fuck themselves
it's the most profound kind of nihilism in public life, even the Trumpers believe in something (i.e., Trump, but still something)
ERIC LIPTON: “Trump’s got high approval numbers right now”
BLUESKY USERS: “but that’s impossible! Trump is super racist!”
Here's an accurate portrayal of your post:
ERIC LIPTON: "Trump's got high approval number with his bigoted base."
BLUE SKY USERS: "So what? Bigots gonna bigot. Stop only interviewing the bigots. Trump's actions are illegal!"
Yes, it’s dystopian and yes, it’s deeply depressing. But it’s not the least bit shocking or surprising that a racist country likes this racist President.
Imagine thinking doing something controversial or revolutionary here as opposed to ANOTHER “Diner interviews in middle America,” story. And he’s quoting another “journalist”.
For the next four years stick together so we can get back Congress and the WH.
But that's what you want, isn't it? Engagement? Negative attention?
Trump's base = Nazis. What he does is popular with Nazis and the NY Times which honestly is pretty much the same thing now.
They are not getting the real story, because the media infrastructure has collapsed
