Refrigerators. Trump always claimed that’s what shoplifters take so I figure they must be easy to stockpile and carry around. I’ll use them to barter for goods after the purge.
Yeah I just don’t like the car and it needs $1500ish worth of work. It is way too big and guzzles gas. I drove my 2001 Honda civic until 2018 and only sold it because the suspension was gone.
replaced our dying washing machine and i bought a computer -- probably had a few years left in this one but it is what it is. thankfully we bought a car earlier this year already. still thinking about what else we can stock up on, i hear clothing and shoes will be hit hard...
I really don't need a PS5 but I really don't want to pay $1,000 for a one someday 🤦🏻♀️ I've had to replace every appliance in my condo besides the washer dryer and everyday I look at it suspiciously, but a new one might be so shoddy it dies before the existing one? It's such a dilemma.
Need portable solar panels and a backup battery for when climate disaster hits and there is no meaningful federal response. Probably also a tv and sound bar, mine are pretty old
N95 respirators in bulk, new sheets, new clothes and socks that haven’t been replaced since before the pandemic, walking/hiking shoes/boots, nasal cannulas in bulk, sports tape in bulk, other necessities like these ♿️
Got a laptop. Probably going to upgrade the phone soon. Wish I was in a position to get the second car my family is starting to need but I didn't think that can happen before late summer; but that's more a second order thing than the tariffs themselves.
Yeah but it could turn out that there's some one part for a machine that can only be gotten from China or a company relies on technology that they're not going to be able to maintain without Chinese parts. That's the problem we just don't know what's going to be affected.
U.S. manufacturers rely heavily on eucalyptus pulp imported from Brazil. Eucalyptus pulp contains short fibers that make toilet paper soft and absorbent.
Yes, toilet paper is made here (says a guy who live in a place where they make it). The issue during the pandemic was that toilet paper gets divided into residential and commercial distribution channels. People stopped leaving their homes, so the residential stuff go used up very quickly. 1/2
Got a backpacking tent (textile import) and a bicycle cassette (consumable machining import), if I had my act together I’d refresh my worn clothes as well.
everything in me wants the new mac mini even though I've got a custom-built computer that's only three years old. You think Trump has the sense to exempt Apple to spare a few conspicuous, big-ticket items that he can point to? Or maybe Tim Apple has baked it into the pricing strategy already?
Honestly, it's hard to judge. (And it's coming up on eight years in December!) There have been some software changes that alter its display of expected range, and living in Colorado, the terrain and the weather are a bigger factor, day to day.
Thank you.
The Leaf is still on top of my wishlist for now.
I was planning to get a used one (around 2022) next year. Hoping the battery would still be over 50% after 10 years.
According to your guess that seems plausible.
I've been looking at the electric Subaru. We have a Bolt now and an Outback which is in great shape. But we're both retiring and perhaps one electric and one gas SUV is all we need.
Ordered a freezer for my garage which I'm gonna stock with bulk meat and frozen veg. Also ordered a Jackery battery backup and transfer switch for my home, but that's more due to the local utility being unreliable lately.
Glad I picked up an EV before the credits go away.
Might buy a new freezer cuz I’m gonna fish a lot more now, and white rice lasts two years on the shelf and I need my rice. Food’s already so expensive up here in Alaska, and 90% of the state lives off of a port that was built faulty (it’s a whole thing), so things are looking rough.
We have our first Grandbabies, 7 weeks and 10 months old. I know they don't care, being babies and all, but I've been having fun:) Three sons, and now two granddaughters.
Just an fyi, anything sold in the U.S. labeled as “Bourbon” legally has to be made in the U.S. The laws around whiskey labeling here are actually pretty strict, especially when it comes to distillation location.
Replacing my water heater. Going to consume fewer goods after Biden, buy local wherever I can, support “blue” state venders on Etsy, use my local library more.
If only we knew what kind of health challenges we were going to face in the future- we could stockpile the medical equipment we'll need. Maybe a blackmarket will pop up where you stockpile stents & I'll stockpile hip replacement parts- Then we could trade.
In other words "A Modest Proposal"
Bike parts. Most come out of Taiwan. Things like cassettes, chains, and brake pads are consumables. Even if the tariffs don't happen, the parts will get used.
Moving into a new place in a few weeks, so furniture is top of the list. Trying to talk myself out of finally grabbing a PS5, too. I know I’ll regret it if I don’t buy it, but that “moving into a new place” thing means money is tight…
make sure to join your 'new place' Buy Nothing group - it's amazing what neighbors aren't using & happy to give. While I doubt they'd have a new PS5 they may have moving boxes, & a lot of odds and ends that add up.
When covid hit, one of the first things we noticed was rapidly declining supply levels of stationery and other basic office supplies. All that stuff comes from China these days.
Another category worth keeping in mind would be hardware and building supplies.
We’re upgrading our computers, maybe getting a second freezer, a few more raised garden beds. Otherwise, mostly stocking the pantry, laying in whatever we can on prescriptions.
We are homeowners and talked about big construction / maintenance projects that we might need to do in the next few years. We are doing them now. That’s not an “imported good,” but materials and labor are going to be scarce and expensive.
Not so much about imports, but about making choices to be able to avoid them in the future. Upgraded desktop and laptop, got new tech for the kids for Christmas. Getting needed repairs to vehicle to stretch them another four years. getting passports. Stocking the pantry.
Coffee and we’re replacing our freezer. I can’t focus on this stuff. Still trying to gage the damage to Medicaid for my autistic son and the ACA for my oldest son. I’m exhausted already.
I regularly use Copic Markers, pentel brush pens, posca markers, and Holbein acryla gouache. All made in Japan. And already expensive!! I feel this so deeply. 😭
No joke if you have to/have the means to replace your aging hvac system, definitely do so now. In 2019 we got hit with a 20% increase compared to the same basic not at all fancy unit 9 months prior.

I think we need a slogan. Like Winter is Coming. MAGA is coming? Orange is Coming? Stupid is Coming? Cruelty is Coming
Network equipment
Computer components (drives/memory)
A good chunk of Rye will also be U.S.
Will they have a tariff?

We actually watched Regrexit happen and now we’re going to say “hold my beer”.

The price of computers is going to skyrocket under Trump:
1. tariffs / trade war with Asia
2. crypto boom forced by Thiel & other Trumpist crypto shills
3. supply-chain disruption as Trump stokes racist violence in US cities as part of his bid to become dictator before 2028
